Brilliant!
That contrasting image encapsulates so much of their journey. Just as their music did.
What a band. It doesn't get any better.

^I agree!!
1964 or perhaps 1965?

The photographer Tom Murray (who I met in Liverpool at 2016 Beatleweek and later at 2017 AROTR) said that the "little old man" was actually asleep!! He chimed in when someone posted this on FB.

Yes, 1966 (25th March). And the Les Chadwick photo was 28th September 1962.

Thanks Kestrel!
Someone on FB said this was colorized, but if it is, it's a damn good job! Aug. 14, 1965, Ed Sullivan Show

Paul's top lip is still slightly swollen following his mo-ped accident three months earlier!

Its so hard to tell these days although in photos where someone is wearing (for example) a shirt with a specific bold colour, they must have access to a colour photograph from the same session as reference?

The only clue in that photo would be John's guitar strap - did it have brown leather on it, or was it all black?
In this photo the leather is black (which is what I thought it was) so maybe the photo really is colorized.

The problem also is that the original lighting can vary between shots. If the strap was black then its not quite as black as his black tie was.

Is that an English Horn Paul’s holding in the Sgt. Pepper album?
There is what appears to be an French horn on top of the bass drum, but Paul is holding a Cor Anglais. Do you call it an English horn?
Cor means Horn and Anglais means English in Française. So yes English Horn. Thanks Nancy!

I'm 90% sure that guitar strap of John's was all black with square silver studs on it. Still trying to find a true color photo that shows it.

My 5th birthday....and no, they didn't send me a card. They were so tight they probably didn't want to pay the airmail postage from Paris?
