Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band 2015 Tour

javilu:
I am going to see Ringo at the free concert in Buenos Aires on March 1. It seems he is learning from Paul regarding setlists. Same set as in 2013 and 2014! Come on Ringo, at least add Octopus's Garden!
And 2012!!!

For some reason, Ringo only performed "Octopus' Garden" with the Roundheads. He hasn't done it with the All-Starrs.
Roundheads were a much tighter band: much better players IMO

I bet the guys in the band must be getting tired of the exact same setlist night after night.
The same as the average Joe going to his 9-5 job each day: mundane but it pays the bills. Where else are the All-Stars going to get regular work?

I thought Mr. Rundgren has a pretty solid fan base in the US, same as Steve Lukather who is one of the finest guitar players I had the pleasure of seeing.

Yeah Todd came back here to play pubs not long after Ringo's tour. And Lukather probably gets lots of session work. Isn't/wasn't there a new Toto album?

Yes Sir, a new Toto album is being released soon.

Who has been to Ringo's recent concerts?
Haven't see him on his latest tour, however, the link below is a review from his Feb. 17 show in Greenville, South Carolina. http://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/entertainment/2015/02/18/ringo-starr-band-heat-chilly-night/23599809/

I don't have a direct article or link to quote, but I recall reading an interview with Ringo where he said that he didn't like having two aquatic numbers in the show (Yellow Submarine & Octopus's Garden) so he decided that Yellow Submarine was the more popular of the two and plays that instead. As far as boredom...yeah, I don't know how much longer they're gonna ride this. Looking back, it's similar to the 1997-2000 period for the all-starrs which was essentially an identical band and setlist year after year. I've seen this lineup twice and unless it came directly to Baltimore, I don't think I'd go again. Both shows were great, but two was enough. I need a shakeup, that's the whole point of the all-starr band. As previously said, Steve Lukather and Todd Rundgren have very steady and busy careers without Ringo's involvement. Gregg Rolie has his own band, but I don't think they're very active. In 2012 and 2014, they actually joked that Richard Page was looking for another band, if anyone wanted him- see him after the show!

I gotta admit, my fantasy Ringo show would ditch the All-Starrs and be just Ringo, with a set list something like this: Don't Go Where the Road Don't Go Oh My My Missouri Loves Company Free Drinks What Goes On La Di Da Memphis in Your Mind Tango All Night Weight of the World The No No Song Don't Pass Me By Act Naturally Wrack My Brain Never Without You A Dose of Rock 'n' Roll Stop and Smell the Roses Cryin' Back Off Boogaloo Photograph Octopus's Garden ENCORES: It Don't Come Easy Walk With You (Paul joins Ringo onstage -- hey, it's a fantasy, ok?)

And normally there is much more of a lineup change. I think this group really just enjoys playing together. I saw their last show in 2013 which ended that tour, and it was a real lovefest/"band of brothers" thing on stage. I was surprised when they kept the lineup together last year and again this year. So I don't think anybody is bored if they all agreed to come back yet again for another short tour.

Problem is though, with this lineup they're restricted to playing the same material.

Spot on. Ringo said as much to a mate who met with him in NYC last year. He asked what my buddy's setlist thoughts were. He replied Why no Garden? Why no You're Sixteen...etc Ringo said (as above...2 underwater songs, and he will never sing You're Sixteen cos for an old man to sing that is creepy..."I don't want to be Gary Glitter." Ringo said he hates singing Yellow Submarine but he "has to do it." ...he doesn't! He could alternate, throw in more 70's songs... Oh man...it's just like McCartney. At least McCartney does throw us some crumbs...bar I'm The Greatest, Richy's playing the same set for 3 years now!

Well, Ringo really does kind of have to sing "Yellow Submarine".....I think there are far LESS people that see Ringo multiple times than Paul. However, there are a lot of others Ringo could shake up. He certainly doesn't have to play "Boys "I Wanna Be Your Man" and "Act Naturally" at every single show. I've been pretty pleased with a fair amount of song switches, with each lineup that is. The current lineup is the only one I've seen twice and there was only one song change. He dropped "I'm The Greatest" for "Honey Don't". A few Ringo songs I'd like to hear thrown in are..... -Six O Clock -Snookeroo -No No Song -Wrack My Brain -La De Da -Wonderful (from the 2012 album...just kinda stuck with me!)

Not necessarily...lots of other choices that Todd can do, and Gregg Rolie was also in Journey so he could add in one of those songs instead of doing only Santana songs (altho the Santana songs are better IMHO ;)). But they don't seem to be bothered about doing the same sets. I am seeing them again next month so I will try to notice if they seem more bored this time around.

I don't see any new items on Ringo's official store. What is the merch table like at the actual concerts? New tour book, new t-shirts, keyrings?
-
I have seen Ringo's All Starr band numerous times ('89, '03, '06, '10, '12, and '14) as well as the Roundheads in 2005. Even though the All-Starrs had fantastic musicians the years I saw them, they didn't compare with the performance I saw with the Roundheads!

I would LOVE to see that show! Cool selection of songs!
