My Special Edition of the DVD of the film arrived on Saturday gave it to Mum to put away and to give it to me till Christmas
How old are you?
Good question!
Actually, I do the same thing. My mom is 94 years old, with mild dementia. She gives me $100 to go buy myself Christmas presents and wrap them up. Come Christmas morning, she has a big smile on her face when I unwrap each one commenting on how much I wanted it/them. Priceless moments seeing her so pleased with herself knowing that she paid for them.
My parents do the same thing when I come home to visit for Christmas, have me pick out my own gifts. My mom also has dementia so she isn't able to really shop anymore for others and my dad always wants to make sure he's getting the right thing so he asks me.
My Mom (who is now 86) just tells me to order a few things off my Amazon Wish List and charge it to her. One of the items this year was Eight Days A Week.
Nice gift! Will you wait until Christmas Day to view it?
Are you kidding me?! I watched the extras right away, but still need to (re)watch the movie.
Now you're talking.

Commentary on Steve Marinucci's Beatles' website says it missed the mark. Anyone agree? Disagree? He says watch Anthology if you want to know what the touring years were like: http://beatlesheadlines.blogspot.com/2016/11/how-beatles-eight-days-week-film-missed.html

My copy of the special edition DVD arrived the other day - i'm trying to wait until my bday 16 dec to watch it... trying to... i might make it that long I still haven't seen it as it wasn't shown anywhere near us (i think the UK hardly had any screenings unlike the US, and the few there were were the week my baby was due so couldn't really make it!) We'll see if i last til my bday for it - i'm meant to wait as my partner paid for it, and it will pretty much be my only presie this year as we are so skint, but i might end up having it on one afternoon with baby in my arms and the xmas tree lit and feel all nice

Very sweet. Beatles' music to your baby's ears--starting him/her out right.

aww thanks! We've already had on a lot of dvds, i've spent a few afternoons with him asleep in my arms (mostly asleep, sometimes crying, sometimes just staring!) going through my dvds for a well deserved sit down rest! So far we've had on yellow sub, the love docu, living in the material world, wingspan And he's been to liverpool and had his pic with the beatles statue at the pier head (he's only 9 weeks old!!!) - i'm training him well hehe In all seriousness, this is very special for me - i know he won't remember these moments (though i'm doing quick movies showing him watching them!) but it is just lovely for me.. i love him so much. Anyway, back to topic!

Well after many hassles (bought the DVD yesterday only to get home and find out I had a BluRay, then took it back to find out Fred Meyer didn't carry the DVD version, then waited 45 minutes in Best Buy for them to bring it up to will-call after I ordered it and paid for it online yesterday) I'm FINALLY getting ready to watch it...
I went to Target Downtown Portland , because it was cheap , waste of time , they only had Blue Ray...went To Music Millennium 27.99 later bought it :

I think children can feel your love for them and for other people/things that you love. Win, win.

Really enjoyed the Bonus material---very interesting hearing from those who were actually there at the time--from The Cavern filmmaker to the female fans, and of course, the extra performances. Good commentaries from everyone about the inner dynamics of the band.
-
I was expecting a lot more concert material. Very much like a rehashed Anthology. Good thing for the bonus disc...

Not rehashed. Super condensed Anthology.

I agree, and tbh there's not much in the bonus material either. I was expecting at least a full concert. Too much studio stuff for a documentary on the " touring years ".

It was nominated for a Grammy. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/classic-rock-grammy-nominees/

If people are as passionate as I am on original undoctored footage; it would be to their benefit to explore the internet world for this footage. *All the TV/Live shows - with original broadcast/audio exist. *Let it Be - exists with tons of added footage *The Cartoons are in excellent quality. *Live in Washington DC - full footage exists. *Live in Japan exists in excellent color - and the band actually does well, unlike the 5 second clip of Ringo making a weird face; thus prompting EDAW movie to make us believe this band was unbearable in a live setting in 1966. So - I've giving up on Apple's new way of giving material to the fans. They had me hooked on 1+ until this film. I have a like/hate relationship with this film. I appreciate how much they cleaned up the footage but....that's all it did for me. Disc 2 should have integrated into the main film.

When you say "Live In Japan" you mean at the Bukokan, right? I've seen the shows and the afternoon one is pretty bad! The evening show is much better. I really can't understand why the Ed Sullivan footage was so poor in video quality, though. The Sullivan DVD is so much better! And I agree, the extras should have been integrated into the main film, but I guess it would have been way too long then for release in the theater, since they showed the Shea film too. (Which should have been included on the 8DAW deluxe version!)

The blu-ray bootleg of both the Japan shows are in excellent broadcast quality.

I have a feeling they're saving Shea Stadium for a future release on its own.

I also wondered why the Ed Sullivan footage was a lot poorer than the already available DVDs . Someone mentioned it was to do with the screen format - standard to widescreen or vice versa ? One thing is for sure , it's far grainier than it was...

Because the Ed Sullivan estate wants you to buy the Ed Sullivan DVD!
