Five Best Artists Live - Non Paul/Beatles
-
I would like to know the top five people you have enjoyed the most seeing live that is not Paul or any other Beatle. If you want to go into detail that is fine, just listing them is cool also.
-
Bruce Springsteen - I have seen him twice and both times he was awesome. He plays over 3 hours and his E-Street band is fantastic. Bruce has incredible energy, and you can tell he loves performing. Love the stories he tells about his songs to the audience
-
Led Zeppelin - musically they were incredible the night I saw them, especially Jimmy Page. From the moment they hit the stage with "Rock And Roll", they rocked for hours. Rare exception were songs like "Stairway To Heaven" and "Going To California" which were excellent. Robert Plant was a great vocalist back then and very charismatic.
-
Fleetwood Mac - I have seen them three times and loved them all. Between the great vocals of Nicks/McVie and the very underrated guitar playing of Lindsey Buckingham it is a wonderful musical experience. Mick Fleetwood on drums can also be a bit of a show also -lol.
-
Billy Joel - I have seen him a bunch including his show with Elton John. It is hard not to have a great time at his concerts. His songs can rock and are great to sing along to like "Piano Man" -lol. Billy's bands over the years are great musicians and I love the great sax solo on "NY State of Mind" Billy is quite funny and interacts with the audience very well, especially when he plays in NY.
-
Tina Turner - The first time I saw her was in Las Vegas in the mid 1970's. She blew everyone away that night with her singing and dancing and I was lucky to have been very close to the stage. That was back in the day when the scum bucket Ike Turner was around. Years later, I saw her at Jones Beach Theater, and she was still fantastic. The energy and dancing were still excellent, and she was very open about her life now with the audience.

The Moody Blues in around 1983 at an open air venue (semi-circle in front of the stage) called Chastain Park (in Atlanta) Also saw The Temptations with The Four Tops there the same year and Ringo (only time) in 1997. Anyway, they were fabulous! Probably my 2nd favorite group and of course The Beatles are #1!
-
The Eagles in the late ‘90s from the 17th row! Supposedly their “Farewell Tour” - Tickets were $100 each which we all thought was exorbitant! Fantastic show! This was in the Omni in Atlanta. P.S. Saw the Eagles at same venue in 1976 with Fleetwood Mac. I can’t remember which was the opening act! They were both big that year!
-
Rod Stewart, same venue, also in late ‘90s, but stage was in the center, but we were a bit far from him, even though we were in front row of 1st tier. Still, a great show, especially when he ripped his white trousers and you could see his red underpants!
-
Elton John & Billy Joel (the 1st time they played together) in Atlanta, probably at Philips Arena (they tore down the Omni and rebuilt it & renamed it) They were great! I had previously seen Billy Joel in 1974 at The Electric Ballroom in Atlanta and he had just released Piano Man, was not famous yet and he didn’t come on until 3am! I was 19 then, same year I saw George (with the same boyfriend named Paul) at the Omni.
-
Garth Brooks at the Omni in the ‘90s when country music was HUGE in Ga! Had fantastic seats - maybe row 15 - Evander Holyfield has worse seats than me - he was about 10 rows behind me! When Garth was about to come out, the noise from the crowd sounded like a freakin’ jet plane taking off! I’ve never heard such a reception from any audience, even Paul! He did all his hits and Trisha Yearwood was his opening act (in later year he divorced his wife and married her)
-
Bruce Springsteen in Atlanta maybe in the GA Dome or Philips Arena in 2002. Sorry, but I was hugely disappointed. I only knew a few of the songs he did. He may have left out a couple of his hits. And I like his hits: Dancing In The Dark, Streets Of Philadelphia, I’m On Fire, Glory Days, Born In The U.S.A., Born To Run and My Hometown, to name a few.

I don't really get to a lot of concerts so I'm not sure I could name 5, but my top 2 are John Prine, whom I saw 5 times before his untimely death from COVID-19, and Tony Bennett at the 2004 Bridge School benefit. Bennett is not my usual type of music, but he was effing great and totally won over what was basically a rock & roll audience.

Once again, it has been corrected. You do know I make these mistakes on purpose just to see if you catch them - lmao!!!

One regret I have had is I never got to see the Moody Blues live, love their music. I was never into country music or Garth Brooks but by all accounts, he puts on a great show and is adored by his fans. Springsteen is not afraid to play a bunch of "deep cuts" so that is not a total surprise. Sorry you were disappointed. In the 1980's my brother and I met Billy Joel's sound man in a bar in Bayville, NY. He kept us rolling with laughter with his stories about hanging out with Billy and the band reaction to the first time Christie Brinkley showed up at a show. One other story about Billy was my Mother was bookkeeper at bicycle store on LI for many years. One day this woman walks into the store wanting to buy a very expensive bicycle for her husband for his birthday. It turned out this lady was Elizabeth Joel, Billy's first wife. My Mom said she was very nice, and her only request was to have it delivered with a big red bow on it -lol.
