Tributes have poured in for Liverpool musician Paul Pilnick who enjoyed success with famous band Stealers Wheel.Paul, who grew up in Granby, died on September 17 aged 80 after a short illness. He left behind his wife Yvonne, son Tony, step-daughter Charlotte and two grandchildren.
A talented guitarist, Paul played with a number of bands over the decades such as The Big Three, the Vibrations, Stealers Wheel and Deaf School.
Paul, who was in the audience of a famous Quarrymen gig in the late 1950s which was caught on camera, enjoyed a long association with The Beatles.
He travelled to Hamburg in the early 1960s and mixed with The Beatles in clubs. He later spent a lot of time recording as a session musician at the famous Apple Studios and mixed with both Lennon and McCartney.
Just last year Paul posted a picture of the famous Quarrymen gig with the message: "John Lennon in Rosebury Street 1958/59 that's me bottom right corner, little did I know then that I would be working with him at Apple studios ten years later."
Yvonne Campbell, Paul's widow, said: "He really got on with The Beatles. He loved John , respected Paul's talent and enjoyed George Harrison's humour. George was always the funny one. "
Paul went onto his enjoy his own success with Stealers Wheel, famous for their hit song 'Stuck in the middle with you.' The song enjoyed a renaissance in the early 90s after it appeared in Quentin Tarantino's movie Reservoir Dogs.
In the 1970s Paul mixed with other big bands when Stealers Wheel supported The Rolling Stones on tour. He also toured with Stevie Wonder.
