I have a friend who doesn't know much of anything about the Beatles (moved to the U.S. From India in his late 20s) but is interested to learn. How would you start him out? I have the full anthology DVDs but perhaps that's better suited for at least someone who knows the basics?

The Compleat Beatles is a good doco. Not overly long or too full of details.

Start with AHDN and Help, then The Beatles Anthology. He'll love it!

"Complete Beatles" is what sold me. From the time I saw it in 1987 I was hooked. The only downer is none of the Beatles are interviewed.

I'd start with The Magical Mystery Tour movie. The Beatles at their peak in 1967 - both musically & creatively.

Depends on what you are looking for. Documentary wise - The Beatles Anthology hand down. (The Compleat Beatles would be a good intro for the Anthology) Movie wise: AHDN or Help! Interesting but not necessarily essential: MMT Understanding how the band was near the end: Let it Be
