Low points: Give my regards to Broad Street (the film, not the music). Press to play and Egypt Station. On one or two other albums, the jury's still out, and I'll have to have another listen.
High points: everything else !

RE: RIP...for all that have passed
Wayne Fontana, aged 74, was lead singer of the Mindbenders from my home city of Manchester, England. They had a US number one with The Game of Love and several other hits in the mid-60s, before Wayne left for a solo career. Future 10cc member Eric Stewart took over as lead singer and the band had a huge hit with Groovy Kind of Love.

RE: Ram 50th Golden Anniversary Edition?
I would go as far as to say that Ram is Paul's best album since the Fab Four. I remember Paul describing the recording sessions as 'sweaty rock' ! I'm not a great one for large amounts of bonus tracks, demos, outtakes etc. To me, Ram is the perfect testament to all his talents, and it can't be improved.

RE: GQ Magazine: His Most Candid Interview Yet
Wonderful interview. I think the reason there was no mention of Wings is because he wasn't asked ! There's lots of things about Wings that I would like to hear him talk about, but interviewers don't seem interested.

RE: The Beatles' 'Help!' Redefined How Personal Popular Music Could Be 55 Years Ago
"You like me too much" is not possessive and creepy ! It's one of my favourite tracks - light, breezy, tuneful and fun. I really don't think you can read too much into some of the lyrics, because at that time they were all into certain, err, substances. John always wore his heart on his sleeve though, that's obvious.

RE: What are you reading now?
I am always working my way through several books at once, usually without losing the thread. At the moment they include the Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens, The Citadel by A.J.Cronin (the creator of Dr. Finlay's Casebook), Andrew Lloyd Webber's autobiography and a book on the great band 10cc.

Wilford Brimley, aged 85, was a fine actor on TV and film. He made fine contributions to the China Syndrome (with Jack Lemmon and Jane Fonda), and three Robert Redford films (the Electric Horseman, Brubaker and The Natural).

John Lennon’s favourite song (according to Cyndi Lauper)
I can't stand the rain - by Ann Peebles. (Good choice, John !)

RE: RIP...for all that have passed
Co-founder of Fleetwood Mac has died aged 73. Writer of great early hits such as Oh well, Green Manalishi, Black magic woman, UK number one Albatross and the beautiful Man of the world. One of the greatest blues guitarists the UK has produced, he suffered mental illness for many years and made a successful comeback with his Splinter Group.

RE: New Laurel & Hardy: The Definitive Restorations Blu-ray set review
Agreed on Harold Lloyd - those people really took risks for their art in those days ! Buster Keaton also - there's a sequence where the side of a house falls around him and he is saved by the gap where a window should have been. He had to stay absolutely still in the mathematically precise spot, any slight movement would mean disaster. No 'health and safety' at that time !

RE: New Laurel & Hardy: The Definitive Restorations Blu-ray set review
I loved 'Stan and Ollie' - I know one of Steve Coogan's brothers very well, and when the film came out I overheard him receiving congratulations on his brother's film. I enjoy a lot of Steve's work including Alan Partridge, The Trip, and Philomena (another great film with Judi Dench).
My L & H favourites are the one about delivering the piano (is that the Music Box?) and one about selling Christmas trees. Actually they're all very good except for the postwar period which 'Stan and Ollie' deals with. My wife and I visited Ulverston in the Lake District where Stan was born - when you see it, you wonder why anyone would want to leave such a beautiful place !

RE: Music magazine 'Q' will fold after 34 years
'Q' was as much a victim of the move to online reading as it was a victim of the pandemic. Also, people get a lot of musical information from forums like this.

RE: The Beatles’ 10 greatest guitar solos ever
Old Brown Shoe has one of my favourite guitar parts on any Beatles track, and the bass is phenomenal.
Everybody's got something to hide...., Till there was you, Taxman - all these have interesting guitar parts, with or without backward tapes and illicit substances ! -
RE: WONDER WOMEN
A few wonder women from this side of the pond:
Florence Nightingale - nurse extraordinaire
Margaret Thatcher - first woman Prime Minister
Dame Vera Lynn - the Forces Sweetheart of WW2
Petula Clark - singer, actress, pianist, songwriter with incredible career dating back to WW2
Mother Teresa - a true inspiration

RE: Drive in concert and streams
I think the future of concert-going will be different, at least until a vaccine is generally available. Drive-in performances are new to the U.K. but it might be possible to have events for cars (plus coaches and mini-buses for those of us who don't have cars). Audience numbers would be restricted and it would probably be expensive as the live music industry is really struggling. If it rains there could be problems if it's an outdoor gig in a field which turns into a swamp. Drive-in Glastonbury?

RE: QUOTE OF THE DAY
A quote from the late great comedian Les Dawson, about his mother-in-law - "I've only ever fallen out with that woman three times - morning, noon and night !"

Fiona Adams, photographer, has died aged 84. She photographed the Beatles at a London bomb site in 1963, and a photo was used for the Twist and Shout EP. She also photographed Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones.
