The Beatles always sounded original on each release, but they were clever at absorbing influences from elsewhere. For example, if you listen to "Watch your step" by Bobby Parker from 1961, you hear bits of Day Tripper and I feel fine.

RE: What's the weather like where you are?
Manchester (Great Britain) has had wonderful weather throughout lockdown, and only in the last few days have we had any significant rain. Temperatures in the 60s to 70s is comfortable to me, and that's pretty much what we've had. The seasons seem a bit confused though - it's usually September when leaves turn brown, but in some places it's already started. One of the things I've really missed this summer is cricket, our summer sport. It's been a huge part of my life (as a spectator) since the early 60s. There's going to be some behind closed doors but I don't like the idea of sport without spectators. It's putting sponsors ahead of the fans.

RE: THE WEIGHT feat. Ringo, Robbie & a music family
Ringo was (briefly) in the Last Waltz film with the Band - one of the best concert films ever.

RE: Judge cites 42 Beatles songs to teach beer thief a lesson
Brilliant! THIS BOY now knows that YOU CAN 'T DO THAT !

RE: The Beatles song Paul McCartney wrote as an ode to marijuana
I can certainly think of more obvious Beatles tracks that advocate various substances.

RE: Geddy Lee on His 10 Favorite Bassists: John Entwistle and More
Surprised Bill Wyman didn't get a mention. He and the Shadows original bass player Jet Harris were equally adept at both double bass and bass guitar. Both had U.K. hit singles of their own too. More recently, Sting is pretty good on all types and varieties of bass !

RE: BBC Coverage of Glastonbury 2020
Paul wasn't shown this time, but I imagine with all the umpteen acts that have been filmed there over the years, it was probably difficult to choose which ones to fit into the schedules. Certainly I applaud the decision to show the full David Bowie set from 2000 and the Coldplay set from 2016, both of which were brilliant.

RE: 40 years ago today - Coming Up is no.1
The video for Coming up was a brilliant piece of work, better actually than the song itself. One of Paul's impressions was of Hank Marvin, one of my greatest musical heroes.

RE: If 'The Star-Spangled Banner' is canceled as national anthem, activist suggests singing John Lennon's 'Imagine' instead
I don't know about Imagine, but I think another Lennon song would be more appropriate - "Give me some truth"!!

RE: The Beatles song Paul McCartney wrote that really “hurt” John Lennon
Strange to read of someone calling that track beloved, it's just filler really, hardly a song. So many great tracks on the White album, but that's not one of them. You'd have to be a totally uncritical Beatle fan to think otherwise.

RE: QUOTE OF THE DAY
Fred Astaire's first screen test produced this comment - "can't sing, can't act, can dance a little "!!

RE: Mccartney /McManus
Flowers in the dirt is such a great album that I don't think it needed improvement, but yes, those tracks mentioned are excellent. Mr. Costello's autobiography is well worth checking out for lots of reasons, not least for the bits on Paul. I wish they'd done more together, because Declan provided the sort of 'edge' that John Lennon used to give to Paul's songs with the Beatles.

RE: Family tree....
The convoluted nature of Paul's ancestry reminds me of that song "I'm my own grandpa !" Ted Robbins is a performer we've seen in person a few times, mostly as a warm-up comedian before the recordings of TV quizzes like Mastermind and University Challenge. We've also seen him in pantomime, where he was absolutely brilliant. He's also a talented straight actor - I remember him in the wonderful long-running TV series "Heartbeat" set in the 60s and following the fortunes of police officers and others in a Yorkshire village.
Amy Robbins also starred in Heartbeat's 'sister' show "The Royal" as a surgeon, and she met her real-life husband through the show.
Kate Robbins had a U.K. hit single in the seventies, but I forget what it was called. -
RE: QUOTE OF THE DAY
A quote by Bing Crosby about Frank Sinatra: "Just once in a lifetime a really great singer comes along.....but why did it have to be my lifetime ?"

RE: Barry Gibb gets a little help from Paul McCartney
So many of the Gibb brothers' songs have become standards - Paul realised early on that they had talent. They soaked up a lot of influences and developed their own sound. And what great voices !

RE: McCartney 3?
It's always good to anticipate new music, but I really hope his voice is a lot better than it was on the recent lockdown broadcast.

RE: The female singer Paul McCartney tried to imitate on The Beatles’ classic ‘Here, There and Everywhere’
That song is well suited to a female voice - Emmylou Harris did a very popular version.

RE: Happy Birthday, Paul!
Just realised that some posts are from previous years - this lockdown is getting to me ! Nice to see Paul paying tribute to Dame Vera Lynn in a BBC documentary for her 100th birthday three years ago.
