I would also put Letting Go back in the setlist. IMO one of the best live renditions of any song by Paul in the last 10 years at least. Saw him perform Letting Go live in Miami in 2010 and it was a knockout - he was completely there vocally as well - on that one song at least he sounded like '76 Paul - really amazing. I would also put Jet back in the set - really miss that one. Don't care for "Save Us" at all - sounds like a generic /weak /uninspired tune - no grit or punch vocally or melodically - a throwaway filler track at best. I would also add She's A Woman as he performed it in '04 - he sang it really great then

RE: Albany, NY - Times Union Center - July 5, 2014 - ARCHIVE
Wondering if Paul's recent adversity might inspire bolder setlist additions to make these shows extra special? Silly Love Songs with Rickenbacker anyone???? That would be something.....really would be something!!

RE: "APPRECIATE" NEEDS TO BE A SINGLE! IT WOULD GET
Wouldn't that be something? Would LOVE to see Paul have one more huge hit single. Finally a badass video to go with a great modern catchy pop song that fits with today's radio sound. I've actually heard this song on top 40 radio in Dallas. The novelty / viral aspect with the cool robot video could push this one to a place no Paul single has gone in a long while. I hope momentum and interest in the song/video keeps building. Would just love to see Appreciate catch on and really start climbing the charts. I believe the spark is really there with this one!

Different Opening Song for U.S. This Summer?? Hope So??
Given that Paul just played MMT in Peru (instead of Eight Days A Week as per Uruguay show a few days ago) perhaps there's a chance we'll get a surprise new opener for the U.S. tour. I sure hope so. I Wanna Hold Your Hand would bring the house down as an opener if he ever did it. Also, hope he puts Jet back in the set. "Save Us" IMO is a very weak tune - studio recording has no punch or grit whatsoever, just sounds flat and uninspired - not even in same ballpark as Only Mama Knows, Figure Of Eight or countless other great Paul rockers....

RE: Rickenbacker bass on Silly Love Songs LIVE 2014
I believe there is still hope for the Rickenbacker....after seeing Paul play Rockshow live in 2010, I believe anything like that is still possible. Thing is, it seems that Paul just doesn't get how iconic him playing the Rick is or how much his fans would love to see him play it again - it would be incredible to see that again. Perhaps if the other guys in the band would encourage him??? As per Elvis Costello encouraging him to get the Hofner back out in '89? Ya never know!

RE: New - Track-by-track thoughts
Hello all - haven't posted in awhile. A few thoughts on the NEW album.... I believe it's quite a good album overall with some great tracks - particularly including "New" (a masterpiece of a single - the best since My Brave Face and will stand up against any Beatles era songs), Appreciate (sounds like a great '86 Press To Play outtake - could be a hit single now if released and promoted well as such), and Alligator (great melody, chords, and guitar riffs). Downside is that NEW as an album has no great ballad and no great all out rocker. Sorry, Hosanna is very mediocre - shouldn't have made the album. Also think that Save Us is quite mediocre by Paul rocker standards - no grit and melody & vocal is pretty weak on that one as well (not even in the same league as Figure Of Eight, About You, No Values or countless other great Paul rockers). All that said, though, certainly still some truly great moments on New (Queenie Eye also being a good one)...and very glad Paul is continuing to give us new music to enjoy

RE: desire to see Rickenbacker bass re-introduced live..
Bump - I vote for return of the Rickenbacker bass during Silly Love Songs (which is leading the new set list poll!) Playing the Hofner on Silly Love Songs just wouldn't seem right.... C'mon Paul!!!

RE: desire to see Rickenbacker bass re-introduced live..
I hope Paul realizes how much his fans would LOVE to see him play his Rickenbacker bass live again. At one time, I thought there was no chance of this...but since he actually played Rockshow/Venus & Mars and Letting Go in 2010, I believe anything is still possible The weight excuse is bogus - I have both basses (reissue versions) - the Ricky is not that much heavier at all. In a 2001 interview, the Ricky was mentioned and Paul just said that he has enough instrument changes per show already & that he's happy staying with the Hofner "at the moment " (no mention of bass weight issue). I think he just needs someone in the band to suggest it or ask him to play it again and he probably would (like when Costello asked him to dust off the Hofner). Strange thing though is that it seems no one around him (producers, bandmates) ever mentions the Ricky to him - c'mon guys, let Paul know....would be incredibly iconic to see him play the Ricky live in 2013!!!

RE: Halifax, NS - Halifax Common - 11th July 2009 - ARCHIVE
While I do love Paul's music and it is great to get another chance to see him, it is very surprising to see "Drive My Car" as the opener yet again. For fans paying big $$ to see him live again, "Drive My Car" seems like a really uninspired choice - seems like a bit more effort could've been made to select a song that we haven't heard countless times (either as an opener or otherwise) since 1993. "Junior's Farm" or even "I Want To Hold Your Hand" or "She Loves You" would've been amazing openers....

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Paul is just set in his ways now and there's just nothing that will change about that. He won't touch songs like Junior's Farm, Letting Go, Silly Love Songs or Venus & Mars/Rockshow with a 10 foot pole - it's like those songs are not even to be mentioned or considered when he's putting together a set list these days. Same with his iconic Rickenbacker bass - he will not play it onstage ever again - that's just the way it is for whatever reason. I just don't think he gets what a tremendous crowd roar/adulation he would get if he plugged in the Rick and played those songs again....it would be mindblowing for the crowd and for him if he would just give it try....

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
left hand man wrote: Imagine the show has been going along, and then the lights go down at the back of the stage a huge Wings emblem lights up and McCartney comes stepping out with the Rickenbacher and all you hear are the opening riffs to the song I've Had Enough and then McCartney and his band rip thru a 10 song rocking set of Wings classics! I think the crowds would go crazy and be totally thrilled Man, that would be the ultimate bring-down-the-house showstopper, mega-goosebump inducing, crowd screamin' its lungs out moment....problem is, Paul just does not get that at all. He won't touch those songs (nor the Rick for that matter) with a ten foot pole. It's as if all of that is not to be mentioned or even considered - like it's off limits. Just don't understand that - incredible missed opportunities that slip by year after year...

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Left Hand Man - I agree with you totally. After 20 years of recycled setlists and nothing but the Hofner, wouldn't it be incredible to see Paul get the Rick back out (at least for a back-to-Wings set within his other usual set) and play "Junior's Farm," "Letting Go," and yes oh yes "Venus & Mars/Rockshow"? Will not ever happen because he is so set in his ways now, but what if by some chance.....
-
RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Paul is still a truly amazing talent, both vocally and in terms of his still-potent writing ability. That said, I don't think we'll ever see much of a change in his setlist - we'll never hear "Junior's Farm" or "Letting Go" or "Silly Love Songs" or "Venus & Mars/Rockshow" live again for the same reason we'll never see the Ricky again...he's just gotten really really set in his ways and there's just no changing that. As for the recent show, I can't believe we got "C Moon" yet again, but didn't get "Only Mama Knows"... Still hoping that a miraculous set change might happen for the next official tour though.....
