Wich albums you think are underrated? I'll start with "New Gold Dream" from Simple Minds. For me is much better than "Once Upon A Time". One of the best I heard from the 80's

Underrated Albums?

RE: "Underappreciated Genius."
RMartinez:
Maybe. But we are talking about remembering. About memory. There are people attending his shows now who were not born when most of his solo material was recorded. They don't even remember that music NOW, it will be remembered less in decades to come. But they know his Beatle songs. Those will be remembered.
Yes, maybe. But, let's suppose he regularly plays songs from FITD, FP and others. Will the people hear those albums? The main problem is that Paul has a 50 years career. Is a lot of time. Is pretty hard to be a living legend, to be fifty years in the top. Is probably that the artists from the '27 club' will be considered a legend forever. And why? because they are a myth, had an intense life and died young. John is part of that case too. If a man can make a 50 years career that means he can fail sometime. Imagine Paul dying at 30 or 40. He would be our Mozart.

WingsOfMacca:
Critics: RAM, Red Rose Speedway, Band On The Run, Tug Of War, Flowers In The Dirt, Flaming Pie, Chaos And Creation In The Backyard, Electric Arguments and Memory Almost Full has positive critics in every single website. We have 36 years between RAM and MAF. 36 years of music, recording new music constantly. Rock, pop, dance, electronic, classic works... he did almost everything. And about 30 top hits in his solo career. What more is necessary to be considered a legend? Some people say he will not be considered a legend because he didn't anything so special like in Beatles time. Well... this is impossible.
Paul himself may be contributing to the demise of his solo career in history. If he chooses to forget songs like My Brave Face and Beautiful Night, how can he expect history to remember them?
I agree with you, Paul should play those songs in concert. But his works are there and you don't need a concert to hear them. I don't think a legend makes himself playing songs on a stage.

RE: London Town
IMO, 'London Town' is much better than 'Venus & Mars'. The only problem is the sound... it could be better. Extremely soft.

RE: THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL
RRS, LT and BTTE please!! I don't want 'Tug Of War' because is perfect in this way, and I don't want 'Pipes Of Peace' because no matter how, it will always be a mediocre album.
-
RE: London Town
'Morse Moose and The Grey Goose' is epic for me too. We never expect Paul doing that, but he did. Anyway I think it shouldn't be the end of an album.

RE: Defense Case 2- Off the Ground
crisstti:
Yes, Paul seemed so happy around that time, not just when it came to this album. Such a shame then Linda's illness would come
Exactly. The period 1989-1996 were amazingly happy for him.

RE: Defense Case 2- Off the Ground
My personal thought about OTG is that Paul made this record in a completely state of happiness and relax about himself and his life. FITD is the prove that he still was an excellent musician, and it came in the perfect time. OTG is Paul being Paul, and the result is a sweet and a wonderfully melodic LP. I sense happiness in every single song. I can't find the exact words... but I feel that Paul had finally solve all his existential problems that came after John's death.

RE: Best bass line?
Bruce M.:
"Best" is entirely subjective, of course. I have no objection to the tracks suggested, but I would add that "Driving Rain" -- whatever one thinks of the album's overall merits (I'm in the middle, personally) -- is filled with great bass playing. I'd cite From a Lover to a Friend, Magic, and She's Given Up Talking as particularly outstanding examples of how Paul's bass can add to the overall emotional mood of the song.
Of course is subjective, it's about the things that make you feel!!

Best bass line?
Talking about his post-Beatles career... 1. Silly Love Songs 2. Goodnight Tonight 3. Time To Hide 4. Morse Moose And The Grey Goose 5. So Bad

RE: About Robert Plant
SusyLuvsPaul:
I still really loved those striking, ubiquitous Mtv music vids of Plant's set in the American desert and his album then, and later have appreciated his more recent surprising ventures with bluegrass singer Allison Krause. Plant still seems very viable as an artist who takes new different directions and explores different styles. I hope he comes out with more surprises
Of course my friend!! Robert is an amazing artist. But I was talking about the change in his voice.

About Robert Plant
Can anybody tell me what the hell happened with his voice in the 70's? I mean, in the first albums of Led Zeppelin (I, II, III, IV and Houses Of The Holy) the man is clearly one the best voices in history of rock. But in the next albums (Physical Graffiti, Presence, In Through The Out Door) his voice sounds awful, completely different. You can see the difference in the concerts, specially in Stairway To Heaven (compare the 1973 version with the 1975's).

RE: Anyone notice a pattern?
Yes, there's a pattern: Paul being the number two in other artist's songs. That's the pattern I see, and that's the reason of my complain. Lady Gaga is great, Rihanna is great and I guess Kanye is great but Paul McCartney is a L-E-G-E-N-D, and a legend should always be the main character. That's my opinion and I don't expect to convince anybody. I mean, I rather see Paul doing bad albums, but not doing things like 'Fourfive seconds'. Really.

RE: Defense Case 1- Press to Play
HaileyMcComet:
Phil Collins also produced the best Philip Bailey album.
'Chinese Wall'? I don't like it... for me, that album is 'Easy Lover' and irrelevant songs I know is out of subject, but how great is Phil. In the 70's, he was the drummer of a progressive rock band, an incredible drummer. In the early 80's led the transition between rock and pop with two masterpieces, 'Abacab' and 'Genesis', meanwhile, he started his solo career with 'In The Air Tonight'. After that, Genesis became a pop-rock band (specially pop) making a lot of successful songs, the same time he was making his own successes with 'No Jacket Required'. And in the late 80's, his last bullet: 'But, Seriously', that means 'Another Day In Paradise' 'Hang In Long Enough' and others. No words.

Driving Rain is a flawed, but worthy, return-to-form. Too many tracks and a few lines that begged for a re-write.
Let me guess, "1,2,3,4,5 Let's go for a drive" - lol. I really like DR but it could have used a some trimming. For example, "Rinse The Raindrops" needed 4-5 minutes cut from the song. I would have eliminated "Tiny Bubble", "Spinning On Axis" and never included "Freedom". The standouts songs to be were "About You" and Lonely Road".
No way!!! I love 'Tiny Bubble' I don't like 'Freedom', but 'Lonely Road' is one of my favorites tracks of Macca's 21st century

RE: 'Run Devil Run' appreciation post
Well, I think he was in love with Heather when he made 'Driving Rain', right? I don't think it can be part of the same category. FP and RDR express pain and strength, DR means that Heather lighted a new flame in Macca

RE: 'Run Devil Run' appreciation post
Thanks dear Prudence!! I always felt RDR in that way.
