Not all religions and belief systems are about peace and love. Some are quite violent.
Really? I thought it is what certain humans make of their religion that can be violent... But not the religion itself and not those who follow it with their heart. And there has been violent people acting in the name of their God in *every* religion.

The most humanitarian religion is christianism and the only true religion that is promoting unconditional love, but is not a cool religion so people prefere to say something like i am very spiritual but not religious. music stars like the beatles promoted other religions and many pop stars did the same,so it is so uncool to be a christian and "religious". Christianism is a very tough religion and people cant accept it ,especially in the modern world where the sexism and selfish acts are what are promoting the most.Christianism is damaged by all that hippie movements, where freedom is free drugs, free sex and do what you want and then love the others and dont judge what they do,the christian love was replaced by the hippie love,2 diferrent ways of aproaching love.Christianism doesnt aproove many sexual behaviours and there are many prohibited sins ,true love cant be reached by selfism,on the other hand hippies love is more about freedom and do what you want, the only sin is hurting others,of course there isnt any uncoditional and sacrifying love message.

hippie love=freedom, love yourself christian love is=sacrify yourself ,be patient try not to have sinful desires, you are not perfect try to reach god's love p.s i am not a devoted christian anymore but i can do a christian preaching anyday

Christians have gone through a time when they were absolutely monstruous and were certainly not showing any message of Love at all. They were no better than the terrorists pretending to be muslims today. And still today, Christianism is not always represented the way it deserves to be. Every religion has seen horrors made by people pretending to act in their religions name. I do agree that some people feel like being Christian is not cool so they try to look somewhere else. This is a pity because there is no cool religion, and no ridiculous one. It is a big waste of time to let your ego rule by trying to satisfy it and do what you think others will judge as "cool". Every religion is as beautiful as others, they only are different ways that lead to the same Wonderful thing... Choose the one you feel best with (religion or own spiritual way or anything) and follow it with your heart.

Well I would like some sources to verify that. And by sources I mean not verses taken out of their context, otherwise we could very easily do the same about the Bible. I would like some reliable sources that proove what you are saying because I have read and heard the exact opposite all my life... except from people too passionated about their religion or against another. But other than that, I respect your opinion and I hope you are sure deep inside that you have not been mistaken all this time. Oh here is an interesting link... I found many many many others if you are interested : http://enviro.org.au/enews-description.asp?id=840 psst... we are a bit off topic on here, dear! ops: Maybe we should move in your atheist thread!?

Hippies also have the philosphy that we must work for the common good. Many still give away food and things directly to those that don't have it. Diggers and Rainbow family tribe are two groups still at it today.

Even the Bible has violent quotes. Deutoronmy. Suffer not a witch to live. There's a quote directly saying it's okay to kill me. I've learned to defend myself quite well. (and if I am killed, I know how to haunt with both the spirit and astral body).

are you kidding? a lot of hippies became Jesus freaks. The preachers drive me nuts at the gatherings. as far as love goes, I have to love the way my heart tells me. Not anyone else. and only loving the way my heart tells me seems to work out for me too. It may be against the bible (but then any love that doesn't involve breeding more minions is against most biblical religions and Krishna too) but I have to go with my heart over restrictians someone else puts on me and like Lennon and Paul, become an activists about it for my rights and show that my way works for some of us.

Most religions have a central God figure, hence the saying "all paths lead to the same destination" (or most paths) Buddhism doesn't refer to a God figure except very indirectly. It's very subtle and nuanced, Zen Buddhism and other forms of Buddhist thought. I don't know that much about Tibetan Buddhism, it's funkier and fancier (for lack of better terms), I need to brush up on it. The Tibetan variety of Buddhism features some very magical mysterious beliefs. Fundamental Christianity, if not too harsh, at least isn't watered down at all and is heady and intense, I'll give it that. Its adherents seem to truly need a definite set in stone world view to guide them through life. They're not very open, many of them, to ambiguity and diversity. There ARE verses in the Bible, amazingly enough, which actually approve of "New Age" type stuff. A woman preacher quoted them while leading me and two ladies in prayer at the ladies' over 100 year old home in South Carolina, which was "haunted" (I lived there a while and noticed all kinds of happenings). So it blew me away that the woman pastor prayed that, as if she knew. I didn't ask her where the verses were in the Bible and wish I had. I didn't tell her about the utterly amazing things I'd heard and seen in that old house at times. It was too sensitive to talk about, I felt at the time. Later on I did tell one of the ladies' daughters about it, and she didn't seem surprised at all.

You are aware that there are dozens of religions that are polytheistic that predate Judaism? Hindu is probably the most famous one and even Krishna's are polythesist. They just follow Krishna's teachings but they are aware of the existence of the other gods.

Yep, it's there. Like I said, it's in Deutoronomey. I can shut up most Evangelicals with that quote when they realized I am armed because of it (with all my permits). They also can't argue with me that it's there when they try to preach their peace and love lies.

Deutoronomy is an old testement book before Jesus. Christians really get into the 'before jesus' times

The very highest teachings of Hinduism state there is one supreme God, they call God "Vishnu" but a rose by any other name would look and smell the same. I don't feel drawn to describing the strange phenomena I witnessed, Kapoo, since you make light of it all and sort of jeer, lacking reverence and respect.

Fair enough Susy, totally. Let me just say this, you know I like you personally.. or at least I hope you do. I hold no bad opinions about anyone who finds value in religion.. its just that I really don?t. for me its an easy target to find some humor in it. when I think about religion it often spurs a comedic thought, don?t know why. Perhaps its like Dan Aykroyds character in Spies Like Us said, ?We mock what we don?t understand.? Probably true in this case. Anyway my apologies if my goofing around is offending people, I?ll give it a rest. the wise men
