One thing missing from the Olympics was "Dr Who"!!! I can't believe I didn't see him there. The Queen had such a spectacular entrance, I think it would have been neat if David Tennant came out at the end, and the Queen left in the Tardis. I know, Tennant isn't the latest Dr Who, but I like him better than Matt Smith. Podgie (There shoulda been some Daleks also!) Monkey

Maybe if Tom Baker was there he could have offered her a jelly baby!

Whatz up with that Olympic Logo too? It took me a bit to realize that it is the year. Seems quite unattractive for a logo. Even making it pink for more appeal to girls doesn't help much. In trying to make sense of the logo, I bet a lot of people rearranged it. I know I did. This seems to be the best I come up with... Okay, maybe it makes better sense to me now. Andy Capp walking home from the pub. Podgie (yes, very typical british) Monkey

Well, the Olympic Opening Ceremonies are over! No real surprises by Paul. "Hey Jude" again. You know the argument has always been, "I have to do it, there is someone out there seeing it for the first time!". Well, now how many billion have seen it, according to the media? I say drop it from the setlist, and replace it with "Beautiful Night!" ...but that's just me sayin. It was great seeing Paul, even if I have seen the song a gazillion times...done the same way. You know, I liked Stella's jacket, well at least the color and the olympic ring button on the cuffs. Only criticism I had was "Where are the fasteners in the front?" Cricky Paul, keep your arms down! The gap in the front was a bit annoying. At least if Stella had him wear a Union Jack t-shirt, I would have thought..."Wow! Brilliant Gap idea!" Without a design to open up to, my only thoughts were "Paul, keep your arms down!" Photo much bigger - more detail - click here! Apart from the gap. I did like the jacket, and it was great seeing Paul. Podgie (Great buttons!) Monkey
Yeah, I agree. His shirt had just the stripe going down or was it a glued on tie? I didn't like the closure at the bottom...reminded me of a hoodie. : Expensive one...but nope, didn't care for it. Think he'll ever wear that again?
-
I'm thinkin' that now that they know about the gap in the jacket, bring Paul back for the Closing Ceremony wearing it. Danny Boyle could have and LED panel (like on the seats), put onto Paul's shirt and show images and text whenever Paul puts his arms up! It would be great at the very end when Paul comes back to the microphone seeing SEE YA NEXT TIME! come up on the shirt. Podgie (just thinkin' about Paul wearing the jacket again) Monkey : )

I've seen all sorts of captions with that pic of the queen including, "Off with their heads." To "Where the F***k is Paul McCartney" and one made to look like a mug shot. As far as Paul's jacket, when I saw a close-up of the olympic rings Cuff links, my first thought was they looked like a set of pride rings. (You'd have to have been into alternative lovin' back in the mid-to-late-90s to remember that one). Strangely, I posted that on my tumblr thinking all the others would be too young to know what I meant and many thought the same.

My word, I hadn't even thought of that! Where WAS Dr. Who? And Monty Python, for goodness sake! Can you picture the parade of nations doing the Ministry of Funny Walks bit?

Lord, do I wish he had worn a Mind the Gap shirt under the jacket! How funny would that have been?

One of the British gymnasts did her floor routine to Live and Let Die!
You saw it too! Yes! Wasn't that awesome? I've been posting in every thread I can think of about it, especially with the audience clapping along to it.

From Meat Free Monday's official facebook It was supposed to be a playback but they went against in the last second I think. Sir Paul, who opened with "The End," before launching into a rousing sing-along version of his famous hit, "Hey Jude" at the piano, revealed the performance was tentatively scheduled to be lip-synced. "There was some talk of maybe being to playback but we decided against it and went live, live, live!" he wrote. "It was a trip and very exciting. It was a great opening ceremony!" http://movies.yahoo.com/news/paul-mccartney-thanks-fans-great-response-olympic-performance-155450810.html

"There was some talk of maybe being to playback but we decided against it and went live, live, live!" 0.54 (Playback) "Hey Jude" 0.57 (Paul live) "don't make it bad" 0.59 (Playback ,again) "Hey Jude" like ??? 0.59 Paul nods his head to the band like "yes, we're going to do it" and sort of laughs xD

Podgie what did you think of the opening? lotta commercials n chopped I thought

I gotta say: Was every note he sang perfect? Naw. But, overall, he sounds fantastic. Much more fluid than it's been in a long time. I felt proud watching him -- and he looks great. Wonder what he's doing to get his hair so silky smooth-looking!

I don't know why it is but he seemed different, he moved like he was 20. When he sings "Everybody all around the world!" you see he sings its from the heart, it's very moving. No way on Earth to sing well while laughing lol. BTW... remember Elvis comeback special? It was aclaimed, and seen as an Elvis triumph... almost like Elvis coming back from the dead... Was every note Elvis sang perfect? Noooo... Lots of songs there are very forced, If I Can Dream it's all heart and no technique, he just couldn't sing Heartbreak Hotel... and... anyway!. And Elvis was 33 then, not 70. Actually I dare to say that from "better, better, better"on it was the best performance Paul has done of Hey Jude ever. (PS Audi, I think you missed it, but we have had 123 pages of discussion about Paul's performance, believe it or not.)

In "Spain's Idol" there was a judge that said that "you're responsible of your performance, no matter what others tell you to do, when you're on stage it's you who's performing, you must decide how" Paul took that to the highest possible form ignoring organization's playback and starting to sing live in the climax of the most watched event of Earth ever. Free as a Beatle...
