What do you guys think of David Bowie?! I'm REALLY going through a Bowie phase at the min. His songs are great and the lyrics and chord structures are so unpredictable! And as for my favourite Bowie song, well, I've heard it so many times but I've only very recently realised the pure genius of Space Oddity. It's beautiful, it's iconic, it's ****ing amazing.
Bowie is different class, I bought everything he brought out up until The Tin Machine album. essential listening Hunky Dory Ziggy Stardust Aladin Sane Pin Ups Diamond Dogs Young Americans Low Heroes Lets Dance You are in for a treat young Darth here is a song from Bowie's brilliant covers album Pin Ups
I've heard a few of those songs. Not all of em. I'm off to youtube to listen to them now! I'd definately put Bowie in the same class as Macca!
They are albums Darth
Lol i know I mean I've heard a few of the songs from the albums, ya Scottish tit I was heading to youtube to listen to more! Through the majesty of the internet I've acquired Bowies entire back catalog now ayway...

Bowie's written some really good songs, and some average lyrics/cool music, and some cool lyrics/average music. Overall I'd say most of Bowie's stuff sounds like it jerking itself off, if you'll pardon the expression just that oddly expressive sounding vocal and producing the music a bit too dramatically. Bowie's sound doesn't do it for me most of the time. Though he's written some fantastic songs. he has been known to fly a completely original set of lyrics over sick chord progressions I liked when he hooked up with Lennon for Fame, thats a great jam! btw, have you guys heard this track by Mott the Hoople, written by Bowie. great song, well done on Mott's album. also give a nod to T Rex in it. All The Young Dudes

Yeah, I used to think it was Bowie that did the song!

I only have Ziggy Stardust but it's a great album. Bowie is an artist I have always meant to get into but have never gotten around to it. Hopefully this thread will motivate me to buy a few more albums.
I started watching you're dancing girl while listening to this.. try it
Perfect! I should let you know though that she is a fantastic singer, but she can dance like she's not even trying. I think I've realized why I don't have that many Bowie, the damn amount of CD choices. I have the Ryko for Ziggy. Any suggestions for what album to get next and the edition?

Yeah, it's a shame that a legend like The Who never had a number 1 single, the same goes with Bob Dylan. I don't like Bowie at all, he does nothing for me, neither the songs or the voice or anything. I only like the cover-version of "Heroes" by Oasis. And the "Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)" -cover by the Doors (even if it's not a Bowie-original).

You know, I'm very happy and excited that David Bowie is coming out of retirement to release this album and I'm most likely going to get it. However, tbh, I found this song slightly underwhelming. Lyrically, I find it to be half brilliant (ie "walking the dead" ,"where are we now?","as long as there's sun..." etc) and half mediocre (ie "you never knew that - that I could do that," "the moment you know, you know, you know..." etc). Nonetheless, I do like its haunting, reflective quality that gives it a great deal of charm - like a great potential album closer. The video was also intriguingly abstract and, thus, classic Bowie! As I said, can't wait for the album (it should pull me over until Paul's stuff comes along, lol)!

It sounds like he's releasing the album but not doing any concerts. It's a shame, I would love to see him live!

That's disappointing. I have his 2004 concert-DVD, A Reality Tour, and it is fantastic! He has one of the best-rehearsed, tightest bands I've ever seen, and -- despite not knowing several songs -- I watched it from beginning-to-end. Great songs and a great show.

Penny Lane
That's not Bowie. He did play on a few sessions for the sounds-like hits albums (like Elton did). But Bowie says he never sang on any of the sessions. He played sax and guitar.

Yes. It's the other way round. Bowie covered the Doors.

Actually made some great stuff in the 1970s [like elton].but hes been crap for decades now [like elton].....[see also] rod stewart.
I guess you haven't listened to much of his later day music. But that's your loss His last three albums "Hours", "Heathen" and "Reality" are all very good albums, that easily competes with other albums released at the same time.
