BREAKING NEWS: Magical Mystery Tour Next BLU-RAY/DVD release
-
I plan to dive into it this weekend!!
-
So now it's out i'll ask again - is it the same extras on the DVD normal release as the Blu-Ray? And does the deluxe not contain anything different on the discs than the normal - is it just the packaging? Thanks
-
Just ordered the regular dvd today and should have it by next weekend.

Finally able to answer your question--both the blu-ray and the regular DVD have the same content,, including the "Easter Eggs." BTW, when you press Left beside Play Film and click on the half-circle, you get Magic Alex Sings Walls of Jericho (not the Missing Dining Room scene. It is located above the Main Menu, the Right lower star) The Left lower star is the Fish & Chips Shop scene. If you go to the Right next to Audio Options and click on the half-circle you get Jessie's Blues. I watched the film with Paul's commentary. He was funny talking about how they were "virile young men" and just wanted to see a stripper! In the actual film they put a large "Censored" over her breasts, but in the Special Features, there was no covering! And he was still quite obtuse about who was the walrus, but he did say that they put false clues in songs (e.g."the walrus was Paul"?)

I'm holding out until the xmas holiday for my wife to get me the box set at a reasonable 3rd party price on amazon but I was looking at the reviews and there ARE EASTER EGGS ON THE DVD: they're in the round half circles to the left and right of the main menu bar,and the small stars on the left and right. just above the half circles .I would have never known. They are as follows: "Fish and Chips Shop",where the bus disembarks at a fish and chips shop and they stand in line to eat. "Jessies Blues"-A bus song filmed at night "Magic Alex Sings walls of Jericho,"- another bus song, a sing a long filmed at night "Missing Dining Room Scene"-,an almost Chaplinesque bit that ends with a group version of "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow".
THANKS just found them...Nice Surprise

Big thanks Nancy! I think i was wary cos Yellow Subs recent reissue only put new stuff on the Blu-Ray. But it's great to hear MMT has it all I missed the £8.99 preorder price and it's all gone up now, but i'll put it on my bday list (only 8 weeks!). Wish i could get the deluxe, but it's a no go, just like Pauls reissues, couldn't manage the deluxe even though i really wanted the books!

Just finished watching it, and it was even more entertaining than I remembered it! The visual clean-up is beautiful! The audio clean-up too, but what id they do to the songs?! I listened to them in normal stereo (bit 5.1) , and the stereo picture is so wide that all the instruments and sounds simply separate! You get a detailed sound image for the individual instruments, but the result is that you just fall through the mix. The powerful gelling is gone. As a result, to my ears, Your Mother Should Know sagged in its rhythm and Flying sounded amateurish rather than psychedelic (those voices were WAY too audible, and too obviously mock-opera). To use a metaphor: it's like eating a cake and getting a very clear sense of flour, sugar, vanilla and whetever else they put in it rather than of cake

This may be the definitive description of the issues that I've experienced with numerous remasters/updated mixes of vintage rock. Well-put.

Nice to see the Beatles back on the Top 100 charts! Thanks to the reissue of Magical Mystery Tour on DVD/Blu-ray, the album made it back onto both the US and UK charts: Billboard: No. 57 British Official Charts: No. 64 I'm surprised it did so well in the States since there was really NO promotion of MMT at all. The UK had the Arena program and the reshowing of the film on TV. There was nothing like that here. (P.S. Paul's KOTB is still No. 6 on the Billboard Jazz Chart. )

I'll bet the vinyl EP's sound different. You know, for years the only available version of I Am The Walrus was not in true stereo. 5:1 gives you the other extreme.

MMT is a classic in surrealistic film-making & was way ahead of its time. Even, Speilberg said he studied it in school & inspired him to direct his classics. If it was released today, it would get an Oscar-nod.

Got my MMT special edition this week and I must say I am THRILLED with the package!!! Really beautiful box set. Watched the DVD today and was amazed at how great it looks and sounds especially when compared to the washed out edition I have had for years. This edition really knocks the socks off the former edition. LUVED the extras! Thanks to the folks who discovered the hidden treasures and shared directions on how to find them...I would have never found them on my own - cool stuff!

I'm gutted that I didn't order it at the pre-order price on Amazon of £28. Its now gone up to £44 ...
-
The Beatles should have left Nat's Dream in MMT. It was good scene directed by Lennon and Harrison.

I read a review on amazon say instead of keeping the 4.3 TV shaped aspect ratio it was originally done in, this version has cut the top and bottom off and made it forced widescreen 16.9 (similar to the uproar that "the mccartney years" dvd made). Is this the case?!

I don't think so, I seem to remember the sides being black so the picture was square in the middle. I could easily be wrong.

^ Thanks Nancy
