Beatles Books

I am now recently reading the Beatles book called "Ticket To Ride: Inside the Beatles 1964 and 1965 tours that changed America" By Larry Kane. I also have read Fab: The Intimate Life of Paul McCartney (great book btw) and next I am going to order "The Beatles :The Biography by BoB Spitz also "The Beatles by Hunter Davies. also I want to get "Paul McCartney Years from now by Berry Miles and the one by Pete Best. so do you all own or have read any books on the Beatles or Paul M? if so what were your reaction to it? I know this thread isn't the most clever ,but since I love reading anything about either on Paul McCartney or the Beatles I thought this would be an appropriate discussion to start, and perhaps I can get an idea of what books are good to read.

The Beatles Bio by Bob Spitz is full of errors it has been pointed out. The best books are The Beatles Anthology by The Beatles themselves, and The Beatles: Ten Years That Shook the World by the editors of MOJO. The book coming out later this year by Mark Lewisohn promises to be the best Beatles bio yet. As for McCartney, Many Years from Now by Barry Miles is the best book written on him so far.

For a book about the early Beatles in Liverpool I would certainly recommend the excellent 'Liddypool - Birthplace Of The Beatles' (Dalton Watson 2009) by David Bedford. With over 300 pages of detailed info on their homes, friends, places they played etc etc, the book has no equal. Another excellent book covering the same period plus their early visits to Hamburg is 'The Beatles From Cavern To Star Club' (Premium Publishing 1997) by Hans Olof Gottfridsson. Both books are essential to any Beatles bookshelf.

These are all books I own that I feel to be essential: The Beatles Anthology Many Years From Now You Never Give Me Your Money The Beatles (Hunter Davies authorized bio) Revolution in the Head Beatles Not For Sale Eight Arms to Hold You The Beatles Live! Ringo's Photograph book Mark Lewisohn's Complete Recording Sessions book and his Complete Beatles Chronicle book I've pre-ordered Lewisohn's upcoming Beatles bio and the new Paul book Man On the Run, both of which look to be excellent These two, by Philip Norman, are good, but he's so pro-John and anti-Paul that it grates: Lennon: A Life Shout! Although technically, his Lennon bio is the authorized bio...Yoko commissioned him to write it and only rejected endorsing it right before publication because she felt it showed her in too harsh a light (which it doesn't, give how much of a Lennon throne-sniffer Norman is). He's been given Paul's approval to write his official bio due out in 2015 so we shall see...

I thought Tony Bramwell's book was quite good. He was George's neighbor growing up and then worked for The Beatles until the end. I think he's CEO of Apple now and has been in the business his entire life. Has lots of inside scoops.

There are tons of errors in his book and when I tried to ask him about them and/or point them out, he couldn't have cared less! He stays drunk most of the time now (was on a 7 day Beatles cruise with him in 2012) His book was interesting though, especially since he was close to Paul (he was the one who answered the door of the Beverly Hills Hotel bungalow when Linda arrived after Paul called her to come to L.A.) I also liked the part where he talks about all the pay packets from Brian that Paul had squirreled away!

P.S. Tony is not C.E.O. of Apple. It's Jeff Jones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Corps

His book was OK but as Nancy R said, there are loads of errors, and I'm also not sure how much of it I actually believe. The guy seems to have a Forrest Gump-type existence according to his book, just happening to be in the right place at the right time for nearly EVERY significant thing that happened. Yet when you read more trusted books and accounts of the Beatle years, his name is barely, IF EVER, mentioned.

I've been re-reading some of my many Beatles/Paul books recently. Currently reading an oldie but goodie from 1975: "The Paul McCartney Story" by George Tremlett. Lots of interesting little tidbits.

So The Tony Bramwell's book that you are referring to is called Magical Mystery Tours: My Life with the Beatles?
-
Probably referring to "Magical Mystery Tour: My Life With The Beatles", which he wrote with Rosemary Kingsland.

Yes. He has written a second book too, but I don't see it on Amazon & can't remember the exact title.

Yes, that's his only book that he talked about at AROTR. He had quite a few interesting tid bids at his talk on Sun. morning in Louisville, too

I am going to pick that book up tomorrow at my college library.

Pete Shotten's book is a great read about his life with John. It reads like a comedy movie. The one written by John's half sister is also good. reads like a deep family drama.

Take it with a HUGE grain of salt, there's so much inaccuracy in it that I'm very skeptical of many of his claims...
