MEAT EATERS-SHAME ON YOU

I have learnt a lot about UK farming recently and I too do not like the intensity of meat and crop systems. I know that the majority of pigs, for example, will never see natural daylight or feel grass under their feet as they are mostly in indoor units for 'cheaper, easier management'. The best solution, i think, is to have more small local farms, with more people growing their own food etc. Meat production is soooooo bad for the planet. I pretty sure most, if not all these problems are caused because the human population is too big. Only WE can stop this, people. Thank you and goodnight!

if you meant 'local farms' to keep continuing this enslavement and killing of animals, then no. the best solution is to abandon his violence. if 'a little' is 'allowed' then it will grow to more again. all these innocent animals have the right to freedom and to not be treated as mere commodities. so 'small local farms' is not a solution to their plight. those innocent animals will still face murder for no good reason. go vegan. that is the solution.. please.

I meant self sufficiency, allotments and all that. less food waste this way too, this is a massive problem right now.

Of all the convoluted rationalizations for eating meat in an age when eating meat is not at all necessary for our survival or health, many people today are borrowing a popular slogan I like to call ?the personal choice self-deception.? It goes something like this: ?My decision to eat meat is a personal choice.? And it is usually followed by a statement sympathetic to their vegan and vegetarian friends, acknowledging that they too are making personal choices that are right for them. Sounds great on the surface, but it?s what lurks beyond the surface that I find deeply disturbing for five key reasons.

I have heard these same arguments used to deny women birth control.
-
you gotta be really degraded in thinking and appreciation for life to actually compare the senseless killing of animals with whomever is denying birth control. comparing the denying of life to innocent animals by cutting their throats with pools of blood to something about sex life. seriously. go check your head. seriously. i am not discussing whomever is denying birth control on this thread. if you have issues with that, go start a thread on it. I am neutral on the matter.... all I can think about is when animals eat other animals.. and then I think of Tarzan and Jane being raised soley by animals just like in Jungle Book right and I can't understand much about anything because I'd like to think animals know God and God probably talks to them in their own language. It's sad to think animals are just living breathing creatures "trained" to be one way or the other. I like to believe they know more than humans at times. I love the idea of Dinosaurs having existed too. I like artichoke heart dip. I am sure you could substitute vegan ingredients, but I really really love artichoke dip. Vegetables come from the ground and are living... I guess the topic of conversation (without argument or insult) would be "Do plants have souls/ are plants souls, etc).... conversation is nice when people don't have to agree with one another or even understand...but just see all colors of the rainbow. I believe God would never let anything bad happen to me as a human being. When people say "animals provide food" I see a kitchen full of animals with aprons taking care of people.... animals in particular of course. The main topic of discussion in this area would be Psychology and do people evolve environmentally by being taught to believe/be or by personal experience?

Hi Sarah "I am neutral on the matter.... " please don't be.. it is literally a matter of life and death for these innocent creatures.. if one remains 'neutral' then one is allowing the aggressor to succeed with taking the lives of countless more.. the stance against it alone is saying something, for each further person who makes a stand against it. "all I can think about is when animals eat other animals.. " there are naturally carnivorous animals as there are naturally herbivorous animals and then those in between/omnivorous. they live by the natural law of survival and instinct. not by factory farms, enslavement, greed, pumping other species with hormones, stealing babies from mothers, using hammers, knives and saws to kill 1000 times more than they need to survive, etc., etc. they kill just what they need for their survival based on their nature. a tiger is a tiger. a human is not. a human's digestive system is not made for flesh, nor is the external anatomy that of a carnivore. humans who consume animal flesh are not even 'omnivores' but really scavengers, because what they pay to consume are corpses really and not fresh, by bare hands, uncooked, raw flesh that a real carnivore or real omnivore would be consuming, straight from the kill (by own claws and teeth). no, humans have to add spices, vegetable seasonings, herbs, etc. to make the corpse somehow palatable to fool themselves that 'mm this is yummy'. a tiger doesn't need such trickery of the palate to consume any amount of raw, bloody flesh.. "I like artichoke heart dip. I am sure you could substitute vegan ingredients, but I really really love artichoke dip. " certainly there is a way to make it vegan and to enjoy it even more, for it would be free from bloodshed (whatever it is that makes it non-vegan currently, as i am not familiar with what recipe you may be using). "Vegetables come from the ground and are living... I guess the topic of conversation (without argument or insult) would be "Do plants have souls/ are plants souls, etc).... " it depends on what spiritual path one may take knowledge from. N.B. the only reason i am delving into a spiritual answer here is that a spiritual question was brought up. my being vegan primarily has to do with my inner feeling and respect for life and being against pain, suffering and bloodshed. there are many atheists who also see this same bloodshed to be wrong and unnecessary and who are vegan as a result (which always makes me wonder why 'spiritual' or 'religious' folks [at least who call themselves such] cannot get it, as they ought to be more merciful than anyone who doesn't subscribe to the idea of God, etc.) so, to answer you - according to the Vedic scriptures (which have the most detailed answers when it comes to the soul and all such transcendental matters - i say this having read various scriptures and comparing), yes, plants do contain a soul. life/consciousness means there is a soul within. a plant is alive enough to be considered conscious and hence a soul exists. however, in the material world, one being is food for another. and according to the type of material body a soul inhabits, there is food that is meant for that body (as i mentioned earlier about the natural carnivores, herbivores and omnivores). so yes, the taking of life is still 'sinful' whether it be the life of an ant, the life of an elephant, the life of a chicken, cow, goat, lamb or tree. not all vegetable-sourced food means killing a tree or plant. but, those humans who bring up plants/trees (not you but in general there are those who like to bring up 'oh you vegans are guilty of killing plants, plants have feelings, etc.) eat animals are far 'guiltier' about killing plants/trees because to feed the animals who are on death row, it takes much more resources of plantlife and water, etc., to feed these innocent animals who are later on slaughtered, when all that plantlife could have been used to feed countless hungry mouths worldwide. still, from the spiritual/soul perspective that you asked about, yes, killing plants is also releasing the soul that inhabited the plant being. the Bhagavad-Gita states that in order to nullify such sinful, karmic reactions for taking such life from plants, one should offer the veg*n preparations (whatever one cooks that is veg*n) to the Supreme Lord Sri Krsna (according to the Vedic scriptures, Sri Krsna is the Supreme Lord), and then accept the remnants of such offering as the Lord's mercy. it is stated that the Lord nullifies the karmic reactions of killing the plant life (and any other life that was taken NOT ON PURPOSE - because other life forms would undoubtedly be harmed in the material world in harvesting, transportation, even to light a fire to cook or to breathe), and the veg*n food now becomes sanctified such that it is spiritually beneficial and not just physically. there is no other such delineated spiritual/soul perspective answer in any other scriptures that i have come across on such intricate topics, which is why i have offer this answer from that path. veganism is about doing the best one can do to not cause inconvenience to any other living being. so while one may not be able to avoid all violence (including to plant life), a vegan avoids as much as possible, with the sure avoidance of flesh, milk, dairy, eggs, for these are the main culprits in this horrific holocaust against animals.. by cutting the funding by the increase of vegans (those who boycott murder) hopefully one day these industries will be shut down. right now, we have to keep sensitizing more and more people everywhere about the plight of the animals and to try to bring about this most-needed change on our planet. this killing affects not just the animals, but our planet on the whole, for everything is connected. humans' health is affected negatively by consuming of such bloodshed, flesh, and secretions of other animals, but sadly not even this seems to be a convincing enough point to sway more people away from consuming such.. (the very violence, fear and other negative energies that 'climaxed' at being murdered, all go into this flesh and secretions, and is transferred to those consuming it, so it is no surprise that so much disease and madness is prevalent in human society if this is what the majority feeds on versus a more peaceful diet). anyway, the mission of being the voice for the voiceless continues. please consider all these points and tap into your conscience. go vegan. thank you.

Nothing is worse than someone who tries to push their beliefs on others. You can try to educate people. However, when you start telling someone they are wrong for eating meat is where you need to draw the line. Give it a rest. I LOVE animals. I do not support animal abuse in any way. I dont think anyone here would want to hurt an animal. Just be cool and stop trying to MAKE someone else be like you.

However I am not vegan but I do have milk and dairy so as long as the cow has not been harmed in anyway shape or form. Just eat vegetables, beans, grains, milk, fruits, tofu, etc....then animals will be saved. No need to harm animals.
-
actually, Tofu as a main source of protein is not good for you. Unfermented soy contains compounds that harm the eyes among other things. Asians who eat tofu combine it with pork and vegetables eaten in small quantities. it is important to know such things. I love tofu but eat it in moderation myself. Might make a cold peppered tofu salad tomorrow for Sunday.

My mom was told to avoid soy as it fed her cancer.

To Simplyrahil and Jags I am back and I am not going to let your threats, verbal abuse, and cyber bullying (A.K.A. trolling ) that you have given me, stand in my way. It's really sad that you don't respect other people's opinions. Jags, you are probably the most hateful person who looks so innocent with the picture of the baby cow. I wonder if that IS you? Saying to other members cruel insults like "you don't have a heart " actually just shows that it is you who doesn't have a heart. You can stop looking like a good person, because all you do is hurt people with your cruel verbal abuse. People who are not wanting to be a vegan are NOT heartless. In fact, I have a friend who was becoming a vegetarian, and guess what? She got deathly ill. A vegan diet isn't always the best choice, so don't put down others for their choices. All of our bodies are different, some people, which possibly includes Paul, are immune to it. So stop slamming others for their opinions with your cruel insults. Simplyrahil, if you actually think that I started a fight, you are thinking the complete opposite. This would have never happened if you just respected my opinion. You think just because I am an omnivore A.K.A. human being, I don't love animals, well does that include horses, dogs, cats? Saying that I " claim " to be a Paul McCartney fan is very hurtful, but it really shows how stupid you are. Plus, since you found out that I adored Paul McCartney since I was little, you are obviously a stalker. Your verbal abuse that you have thrown at me, isn't going to stop me from giving you a piece of my mind. So respect others opinions including my own, because it's not going to make people vegans. hopefully both of you will read this and you can get explosive and angry all you want, but it will only make you look more ignorant than you really are.

How can you become a vegetarian, is there some easier way--many would love to be one, but find it hard to change.
-
Susy, just add more veggies and plant foods to your diet. Eat it along with the meat and cut the meat portions over time. You may not give it up totally then but you eat less and more healthy things that Americans don't eat enough of
