LISTENING EVENTS-LA/NYC
-
I love that this was a family event for so many people! I was waiting around with a brother and sister in LA, and the son of one of them was waiting in NY. Come to think of it, I wonder if we heard the hidden track and I thought it was part of "Road." I'll know for sure next week, of course. parlance

Yeah, either way, we know it exists and will be there forever! I'm so happy to hear that people loved the album and that you guys had a great time in LA.!

Just figured I'd chime in with my experience with the L.A. listening party: First off, like parlance said (nice meeting you by the way! And nice meeting you too, polythenelucy!), the L.A. listening party was super casual, very appropriate for California. I got a really unique experience during and preceding the listening party. I haven't told a lot of people this, but I do work with and help out Chris Carter with various things, including tonight's event. I even found out about tonight's events in NY and LA before they were officially announced! So before the listening began, it was cool chatting with various folks and seeing how excited they were about being there and being able to listen to the whole album. It was also really cool to see people talking to Chris, getting pictures with him and getting his autograph as well. This lasted for about an hour and a half so until around 7:20, when I walked over with Chris to the projection booth to get the show started. Unlike the NY event, the projection was really simple: just the album artwork with the title of the song, but, it didn't really matter: people were getting to hear the whole album in full! Many people started honking their horns and cheered when they heard a song they really liked. So cool! My impressions: I think the album is great on first listen. I think I have to listen to it again to really rank it, but on the whole, there are songs I really, really like. Standouts are "New," "Queenie Eye," "Everybody Out There," "Save Us" and "I Can Bet". The one minor critique I have is that on a few songs, Paul's voice is treated with some sort of electronic processing (not autotune!) that is an attempt to make his voice sound younger, or something. It works on "New," but it sounds kinda odd on others. Having said that, that's the only critique I have with the album so far. Again, I think that this album is very strong. It's very slickly produced, and it shows! I have some pics as well, I'll post those in the next few days!

yes great meeting you today! haha I totally thought you were Chris based on those JKL backstage photos. can't believe we're practically neighbors! I'm glad that I now know another Paul person, and hopefully I meet parlance in the near future, too! just got home, went to get dessert with my friends after the event. I think parlance and Sgt._Pepper covered all of it! Yes this event was very typical, relaxed LA. seems like NYC had a lot of fun!!! Too bad we didn't get to hear the hidden track (or maybe we did and just didn't notice?) but I still love the NEW record! I almost came alone today but my friend volunteered to go with me lol. She's not a Beatle/Paul person so she mostly kept to her phone (until the battery died) while I waved my arm out the window to the music. if only there were more album previews like this! New (the track) got looooots of honks! such a special feeling to listen and appreciate Paul's music with everyone. oh did anyone mention that the Vineland Theatre folks gave each car a free admission ticket to watch movies? (admission covers 2 movies played back-to-back) That was a nice freebie! My friend really wanted a ticket, though. It's been so much fun going to Paul events these past 2 months (not to mention the Good Ol' Freda LA premiere and Q&A!). this has been a great year in music for me! according to my tweets, standouts for me were Alligator, Hosanna, Queenie Eye, and Road. Love how the Hof sounds in Queenie Eye. I think that track's actually my favorite. here's a snippet of Alligator! As soon the song started, I got the iPod out to record some video: http://instagram.com/p/fJwlFwDchL/

Glad to hear my apocalyptic fears of local gridlock weren't realised. Great feedback everyone, keep it coming... Martin

Same here! Thanks for posting that snippet. And I forgot to mention the free ticket - that was a nice bonus on top of the posters and glowsticks. parlance

I had the same fears, which is why I showed up early! parlance

Scared was the last song, I believe
Scared is reportedly the last song - unlisted on the album notes as a "hidden track - so that sounds about right. Martin
So he didn't include the bonus tracks? That's okay, as the "official" album is set to have 12 tracks...and a hidden cut.

Our experience in LA was very different from the NY one - ours was very California, very casual. Cars, a drive-in, dancing to Paul and The Beatle in the sunset. Red solo cups *ahem*. And we all got to meet Chris Carter from Breakfast with the Beatles, who couldn't be sweeter. Since fewer people showed up than they'd anticipated, they gave us extra posters. Which is great, because now I have ones to give to friends. I agree with the other positive reviews. I was blown away! This album is one of Paul's best. It was a very powerful experience being alone in my car just listening to the album in the dark and letting it sink in during the silences between songs. We didn't get to hear the hidden track (at least not in LA). The last one was "Road," and it's definitely one of my favorites. To be honest, though, this album is so strong, it's going to be hard to pick a favorite. That said, "Appreciate" is a VERY strong contender! I can already tell I'll be playing that one a *lot*. I can't wait to have a chance to listen to all the songs all over again with a great pair of headphones and really appreciate them. Chris Carter told me that these listening parties were Paul's idea, and I'm so grateful he gave us the chance to hear his album in this unique, shared experience. parlance
That's so great! Thanks for sharing and this only makes me more excited to finally hear the album next week

You work at KLOS? My mom had talked to somebody who worked at the radio station, maybe it was you. If it was you she had told you I was in NY and she was in LA. She said the worker told her Paul gave him a "high five" while he was in his limo a while back and the worker had called his dad and his dad couldn't believe it. She told me his name but I don't want to say it on here for privacy reasons. But anyway, she was telling me that the event coordinator did a great job and that it was really well done!

thanks everyone for sharing your experiences at the drive-in; reading how strong the album is makes me so excited to hear it next week!!! I loved this Drive-In Listen Party the first time I heard it, it was a great idea. I love how this album is being promoted.

So happy you loved it! Can't wait. But, I could never listen to an album with someone that was "disinterested". I want it to be so overwhelming and joyous about it, that someone with me on his/her cell phone would be a deal breaker!!!

Thanks for all the great reports...you are sooo lucky!

oh I know! I had to suppress my excitement a little bit ops: my friend felt out of place so I couldn't hang out around the KLOS tent with the other fans for too long. lol she insisted on coming with me! Some photos from yesterday (hope the photo size is ok for the board): the KLOS booth, sun setting in the background not a great photo, but here's the movie screen we faced Macca glowsticks sitting on my dashboard big screen in the background music! half-successful attempt at light writing in the car
