Paul Album Signing HMV London Friday 18th Oct.

mike carrera:
I've tried to find info but nothings appears, another HMV at 150 Oxford, but this is 336. Hope anyone could help
363.... Part of this promotion is to mark the re-opening of 363 Oxford Street as the HMV Flagship store. Back when Paul appeared there last it was indeed at 363 Oxford Street but in the 16 years between HMV relocated - presumably to 150 Oxford Street - and has only recently returned to 363 Oxford Street. So local gazetteers may need updating still. Martin

ok what is twitter.

So I imagine it's probably not worth showing up an hour before it starts if you guys know from experience that people queue hours, sometimes days, before! Bugger! Missing out again. Boo!

I don't work Friday afternoons, so I could pop into London from work. Not too far. I wonder what time would be best to get there by to guarantee a signing. Anyone had experience of this before? Who is going?
I did this once 7 years ago, (the overnight stay nearly killed me and my health is not great nowadays, always wanted to meet him once more though cos he had been told to hurry up before my go by john hammel, so he never said anything to me! Not a word! My sister got a long conversation though, she went before me - am i bitter?!) - back then the front of the queue had flown from America and been there 2 days (unnecessary really... all they did was make the rest of the queue have to form earlier too), by the time we met him even i'd been queuing 19 hours, i think if you weren't there by about 2am you missed out I would think it would be even harder this time 7 years on.
I was there at the previous signing too, and long story short (no time to elaborate right now), IMHO, it was handled very poorly and was a disappointment for most of those who did not sleep on the sidewalk overnight. I would suggest that if you are not one of the people who wins one of the 60 "guaranteed" tickets, don't bother queueing, as I wonder how many more people after the 60 he is going to sign for. Go and hang out and watch him enter and leave, or queue and be prepared for disappointment.

Where'd you hear about the 60 guaranteed tickets?

You have to win them...this is from HMV's Facebook https://www.facebook.com/events/249241361893987/?context=create The legendary Paul McCartney will be signing copies of his new album, NEW at our 363 Oxford Street store on Friday 18th October from 3pm. 60 tickets guaranteeing access to the signing will be made available in the coming days as competition prizes via www.paulmccartney.com and competitions in the media and our own social media channels. Other fans attending the signing will be admitted on a first come first served basis. *Due to the nature of the entertainment industry, all events are subject to change without notice.

absolutely gutted i'm not going to be able to go Too ill for an overnight sleep on a pavement
Going to try for a Guaranteed place? That's a brilliant "first" for Paul. Gives us living some distance away - and maybe unable to queue for a variety of reasons - a chance at least... Martin
I am tempted to enter yes, but i presume it's one entry per winner and not a pair, and it gets childishly complicated cos i do all Paul stuff with my sister (both fans for 29 years). I just spoke to her and she can't get the day off work anyway, but as well as that i got told she will kill me if i met him without her! I want to though. It may wreck the family, but there's no harm in entering is there..?
you know what my answer would be lass.

for those who have attended, how many people (aprox) has he signed for? less than 100 people or more?

Sorry, I can't say, my personal guess tho is less than 100 at that Standing Stone signing, but I don't know how many he signed for at the NYC event at Virgin a few years back, or the booksigning he did in London for his paintings book...
-
I was at the 2006 London one and if I recall correctly they said he would definitely get through the first 200, and the next 100 after that if he had time (I believe he got though most of them). However, there were no 'guaranteed entry' tickets, wristbands or anything else that time, it was just 'turn up and see'. The people at the front had been there since Monday (the signing was Wednesday lunchtime). Obviously the schedule will be different this time so the number of people he can get through will probably be different... I must be insane for even considering this.

on the HMV event page they are saying they cant guarantee anyone over the 60 prizes winners will meet him, they says they will try their hardest but dont know

Good on them for being honest about that this time round. Again, for me personally, if I wasn't a winner of a guaranteed ticket, I'd only go round there if I was already in Central London anyway, just to see if perhaps they will let people inside the store to watch the signing (they did in 1997) or to get a glimpse of Paul arriving and leaving. But I wouldn't queue.
-
A very rough calculation......if Paul stays for three hours signing and each fan is allowed thirty seconds that would allow for a maximum of 360 fans to meet him. However, allowing for some greedy fans to over stay their welcome (say for example forty seconds ) and allowing for time for one fan to shuffle off and another fan to shuffle in,then I suppose it would be easy to reduce that maximum total down to 250. And thats assuming that Paul intends to stay for three hours. If its nearer two hours then it will probably be around 150 who get to meet him. And I expect there will be hundreds and hundreds of people in that queue, including professional dealers who will be quite happy to turn their ordinary £12 cd albums into £112 signed albums, all ready for eBay the next day.

Indeed! To put into perspective, the wonderful author Neil Gaiman did some Q&A's and booksignings this year in the US where he stayed to sign for *everyone* who waited. Signings went 4 hours or so and lasted until well after midnight, he would sign for as many as 1,000 people at one event. I remember reading that at one of Paul's signings (the NY one?), they took personal items away from everyone in the queue, so that when you approached Paul at the table, all you had in your hands was the CD that he was to sign. Eliminated fussing and fumbling with purses, coats, etc.
-
Well I hope for everyone going that Paul takes a leaf out of Neil Gaiman's book. As for me,if Macca wants to sign my cd he can put it in the post.

DAMM YOU F#@?ING WORK, DAMM YOU!!!!!! Ruining all my potential MACCA ACTIVITIES FOR THIS EXCITING WEEK! When purchasing my CD of New the 2 store assistants told me about this, but said it wasn't quite confirmed and was just giving me a heads up. However, I seen it has been and on a day I cannot attend! On a better note, I asked the store chap how many copies they had sold of this album and he said "lots". I said potential number 1 album and he replied "without a doubt. I've seen the Amazon and Itunes both have this as a best seller with it being number 1 on Amazons, so lets hope it's a uk number 1 album, his first solo #1 album since 1989!

You're looking a bit under-the-weather. Perhaps you should schedule a doctor's appointment for, say, Friday, Oct. the 18th?

chrisstevens that's very positive news from the cd shop. I'll pop in my local hmm and morrisons and see how he's doing

Ahem, yes. See, because I've joked about that with my team leader, she'll notice it. I've blown my own cover here Audi. Yes, I'm stupid, I know. : Good on you, Runciple tune. I actually always prefer to buy my music from HMV now, seeing as they are THE last music chain retail outlet. Once HMV has gone, which it almost did last year, it's gone!

WOW! Really hope there's an East Coast signing...we could do a day trip to NYC for this...amazing.
