Grammy nominations

I don't think Sir Paul went to the Grammy's last year, and he won something from KOTB, didn't he? I don't watch the Grammy's unless someone I dig is going to be on there. I never watch the whole show. The Grammy's are getting kind of like Rolling Stone magazine to me. But I do hope my favorite musicians win one or two or three.

The only thing is...he will probably be there for all the hoopla that will be going on about the Beatles. So seems kinda like...eh..."I'll be in town, why not?"

And isn't the 50th anniversary special on TV being put on partly by the Grammy folks, too? Or am I wrong about that?

My Goodness, the Grammys have a Best Boxed Edition category? I had no idea. It's becoming like the Olympics letting in tennis and no doubt at some stage gridiron or Aussie Rules Football. That been said, Wings Over America is the biz. The best live album of all time, in my view. Only took thirty plus years. I lurve it. A worthy, worthy winner.
The Grammys have a gazillion categories these days. Only about two artists won't get one for the year. It's just like Billboard that now has about a gazillion charts. Just about everyone reaches No. 1----on one of their charts.
Actually, the Grammys have been reducing the number of categories lately. They no longer split into male and female anywhere, and some categories, like Best Rock Instrumental, have disappeared completely. But you're definitely right about Billboard!
I'm imagining that Sirvana will get an invite to perform on the show. Anyone else thinking this?
Not only thinking it -- HOPING!!!
Maybe do a few songs, like in Seattle this year?

I'm not sure about that but I would think that he & Ringo will be hanging out...so...who knows?

Didn't one of Paul's reissues get this nomination last year, as well? That's when I first heard of this category.
Yes! But didn't win.

Let's not forget that "Hey Jude" lost out to "Little Green Apples" back in the sixties. Never much credibility in my mind.
They always snubbed The Beatles. And the Grammys are more of a joke today than they were back in the '60s.

I just checked again--it's called "A Grammy Salute To The Beatles" and is being taped the night after The Grammy broadcast, so I imagine Paul will at least be at the Grammys, more likely to be part of the show in some way.

I thought he did, actually? Wasn't it for BOTR?

BOTR won in 2011 for Best Historical Album (on the Feb. 2012 show) There was a Best Boxed Set or Limited Edition Package that was won by Woody Guthrie in 2012. (2013 show) Paul was nominated, but I can't figure out which one it was. Who knows? Was it Ram? In 2012 he did win Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for KOTB.

I think it was Ram. There's too many oddball categories to keep track of. I'm waiting for the Best Album Between 6 and 9 Months Old Found In The Bargain Bin award.

David Bowie, Led Zep, Neil Young, Black Sabbath nominated in Best Rock Album category If "New" had come out sooner, Paul's would have snared a nom, too--or is it too "pop" --more than rock? Would that have prevented it?
Probably in the "Pop" Category. Although when I loaded songs from it on my iPod, they were automatically listed as "Rock" if that's of any importance. If he were in the Pop Category and had released "NEW" earlier, however, he would probably have lost to some American Idol person again. I mean if Kelly Clarkson could beat him.....She's a good singer, but..... :

The Grammys are the singing world's equivalent of getting picked for a game in gym class. If you're popular and know the right people, you're always first out of the line.

"Cut Me Some Slack" is a cool performance, but Best Rock Song is a songwriting award. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's a little loosely and casually written, more like a jam, not any great "song" per se. Not that I expect sanity from the Grammy; I mean, they gave this award to Eric Clapton for his Unplugged version of "Layla" twenty years after it was actually written and had already been a classic in its original version!
I can't work out how Cut Me Some Slack was nominated either. If it was put on NEW, it would sit as a welcome addition, but in that 7-9 best song on the album category. I don't really rate the Grammys, as it is. Lost credibility a long time ago.... Probably around the time they started to recognise Hip-Hop and rap as music..... The Oscars and Emmys, at least, have stayed true to their values....
It was nominated because it was Paul recording with surviving members of Nirvana. That's the only reason. It is cool to hear, but it isn't a "song"...rock or otherwise. It sounds great 'cause the musicians are great. Paul plays a mean lead guitar and Dave Grohl bashing away at the drums....irresistible!!!!

Good analogy. I always thought picking teams in gym was cruel and unusual punishment!! Needless to say, I was NOT athletic and knew I would be last or next to last when "getting picked". Humiliating. Painful. Hated the teacher for letting that "choosing thing" go on and on and on.....I guess that it is still happening. ops:

Always came down to me and the kid in the back brace in gym. We were both good at dodgeball, though: him because everyone was afraid to throw a ball at him, and me because of my skinniness; there was nothing to aim at! I think the Grammy nominations are a combination of knowing the right people, and members who are too lazy to think of anyone besides Bruce Springsteen and U2 to nominate.

Interesting nominations. Of those categories he is in I think Wings Over America has the best chance. We will just have to wait until next year for NEW to have its day.

I fully expect at least four nominations for NEW--it's too good to earn less.

When the same people get nominated from year to year despite the quality of their albums, you know it's time to shake things up and pick the skinny kid first.

Let's not exaggerate: They didn't always snub the Beatles. They won song of the year for Michelle and album of the year for Sgt. Pepper, among others. But yeah, there were some shocking losses to lesser artists in the '60s. The Grammys have always run 2 or 3 steps behind popular music and popular culture in general, and often go with safe and bland choices (e.g. Glen Campbell winning record of the year in '68 or whenever it was).
