Teen Singer" Lorde" New Sensation, Has #1 Hit Song
-
"Lorde" is a 16 year old girl singer from New Zealand who is "the youngest singer to have a number one single" in many years, caught her on a morning news show and she is sensational! She sounds amazing--has a little bit of a tough world weary Amy Winehouse vibe to her voice and also reminds me a bit of a white Billie Holliday, Eartha Kitt, even Edith Piaf, Etta James and is the anti-Miley Cyrus.( Lorde was all covered up, attired in an old-fashioned school girl longish dress with kind of a pinafore, has masses of long wild thick dark hair and doesn't smile, makes peculiar gestures at times as she sings in a really great, distinctive ,unique singing voice and style. She was astoundingly intense, soulful and unsmiling for a 16 year old, and gives the impression of an old soul, very precocious. I want to get her music almost as much as I want to get Paul McCartney's new "New" album. Which is really saying something.
-
It's "Lorde", and yes she is one of the top up and coming new talents. She's also not an airhead, and says she's a feminist. I am glad to hear that, instead of just another Britney or Gaga copycat.

No 16 year old should sound world weary frankly
-
There was just an interesting sophisticated touch of that, hengirl, in her vocals for this very original sounding, intriguing song. She's got an edge. The excellent rather quirky song is called "Royals."

Some people are just born ready to get on with it. Face it, many kids grow up a lot faster now. Whether it's good or bad, right or wrong, it's just a fact.

Sad but true, Randy. Also this Lorde girl may be one of a kind. A true original. Somebody who if you meet her you'll think "there's nobody else like her."
-
Let's see what she can do live. Then I'll be impressed (or not).
-
Lorde will be on "Ellen" tomorrow (Wednesday)and perform her hit song "Royals."
-
In an interview, Lorde revealed she was signed to a record company in New Zealand at age 12. She was asked to record a soul/blues album and refused. She wanted to write her own songs. It was unusual her request was granted, she admits. "Probably because it was a New Zealand record company." She started songwriting about age 13 with a co-writer, after studying music. She said she feels like a "freak" and talked about partying in her native country, so she does partake of regular teen culture, in her way.
-
i liked a couple of morbid outfits she wears but not the style of music she makes
-
I think she lip-synched "Royals" on the early morning news show, and on "Ellen" ! Unless just the instrumentals and backing vocals were already recorded. Lorde said New Zealand doesn't have a "celebrity culture" (that must be kind of refreshing) so she didn't realize she's a star, or on the way there, until she came to the states, especially to New York. I didn't like "Royals" quite as much the second time I heard it. I would still like to hear more of her stuff, though.
-
She has a number one hit and a nice write up in the latest Rolling Stone.
-
She ought to get together with child prodigy Quinn Sullivan, 14, who has already played guitar at Madison Square Garden and with greats like B.B. King. They ought to collaborate on songs (he writes them too). He could provide some instrumentals. But Quinn is blues-oriented while Lorde is more alternative, but hers can comprise a blend, a mix, variety of styles including blues..."Lord" knows Lorde has the singing chops to do most anything
-
She's probably Illuminati -- just like the rest of 'em.
-
What does that mean "illuminati" that she's "probably just like"?
-
Does "illuminati" mean sort of the same thing as "emo" which I never really "got" what emo actually means. Is "emo" the opposite of "goth," something like that? Or sort of like "goth"? Lorde bewitched me a bit 'cause her song "Royal" reminds me of odd quirky songs I use to come up with as a very young teen around 13 years old, its melody and theme, although Lorde's song is better. There's a story on her in the new Rolling Stone with Paul Mc. on the cover. Paul's is the cover story
-
I'm watching her on VH-1's You Oughtta Know Concert on the Palladia Network right now. The song she's doing at the moment (not the big hit) -- whatever it is -- she's hitting flat/sharp notes all over the place. Why is she a sensation again?
-
Because of her hit song "Royals." I hoped she'd sound good on other songs too--I want to get her cd "Pure Heroine."

I have to apologise before this message because I know it may cause some controversy but I just cant hold back. this rubbish has been going on for to long and to be honest, as someone who has to face it as one from this generation, I just cant stand it. 16 year olds, no matter how great they are, should not be given a offer for albums. Do you really think we are maturing quicker? I don't think so. wait a couple of years, and you'll have a trainwreck of a person who never got a chance to be a kid. its hard to hide from the spotlight after you try to become globally famous. unless your a one-hit wonder.... but from the way child stardom works, that usually doesn't happen. Think about it this way, if you give a couple more years of practice, youll have even more innovative songs, more greatness to add to the world, MUSIC THAT WILL INOVATTE AND CHANGE THE FACE OF THE PLANNET, BUT NO, we decide to just let young stars come in and do their thing. wheres the hours of hard dedication and work? where's the gut wrenching work involved in becoming a child star? I quote from a interview they did in the Huffington post when they asked how she got discovered. she says this. " I sang in the school talent show when I was 12, and a video of it ended up with a record company." yeah, gut wrenching work sinning at a school talent show... its really not that hard is it? i mean, i basically do stuff like that many times during the year, if its really that easy, i just need someone to tape me while im at one of these events. But even if i was given a record deal at 16, id say stuff you, wait a couple more years until im a better artist, even if i was a good artist at that point. there needs to be something that inspires great innovation in music instead of the same bland music over and over..... ( this year apart from pauls stuff and little snippets of other stuff, its been pretty boring) Sure, its different, that's nice brilliant but as far as I can see, its the same as birdy or lana del ray. yeah, they were nice for a second but now, its sort of annoying.... and I really don't see much in royals. I don't find it that interesting its just not that musically interesting is it? if it is, please tell me what im actually supposed to look for because i swear, there was nothing i found that interested me at all.( no, i haven't seen the video though i tried to watch it but the video part of it would not play so there was nothing i could do there, from reading some comments some say the video isn't like a sex appeal thing or anything so that's nice, but i analyse the music, video comes later) if anything even thought its only just listenable at times, id prefer to listen to something like daft punk where i actually know they use actual instruments. they may be eddited to sound like electronics but from songs like digital love and even though i hate to admit it, get lucky, you know they actually use instruments. i think im going to go burry myself in some pink Floyd now, i just don't see any light in letting young stars become popular.

So you can't make music if you're 16 or younger...you can't make music if you're 71 or older...this is ageism--discrimination because of age. If the music is in you it's in you, regardless. "Royals" is an interesting, unusual song, and I hope for more of the same on the Lorde album "Pure Heroine." She's something different on the music scene right now.
