Yeppers I lurve the Everly Brothers...and they inspired the Beatles to try harmony-- and the Fabs proved fantastic at harmonizing, didn't they? Not too shabby

Let 'Em In Paul memorialized them in song Yea, I like them ... Everly news ... http://everlybrothers.net/news.html

I loved that Simon and Garfunkel had the Everly Brothers sing a few songs during the Old Friends concert I saw about seven or eight years ago...and that the Everlys opened up for the Beach Boys at a concert I caught several years ago. Great group.

love their music, great harmonies and of course name checked in Let em in.

I don't love them, but they were hugely influential in the late 1950's. Their harmonies inspired John and Paul in their songwriting, and the duo inspired Simon and Garfunkle to become partners. They covered the Everly's big hit Bye Bye Love on the LP Bridge Over Troubled Water. Paul wrote a song for the Everly's comeback in the 80's, On the Wings of a Nightingale.

I grew up listening the Everly's as both my folks loved them, it was a scratchy old LP called The Fabulous Style Of The Everly Brothers that was my introduction to them, i tended at that time to be into the less obvious songs like Take A Message To Mary, Like Strangers, Bird Dog and Poor Jenny, more for their lyrics as well as the great singing. I was lucky to see the last Everly's UK show ever in 2005 in Ipswich England, unfortunately my Father was very ill so my folks missed it which was sad, but it was a great gig.
-
As much as I love their '50s classics, I love their mid-to-late-'60s records even more. A couple tracks that flew under most of the world's radar after their heyday: EVERLY BROTHERS- "SO LONELY" (1966):
The Everly Brothers - "Bowling Green" (1967): And the naughty... ...Everly Brothers - You're My Girl (lyrics were altered for this television performance): -

But here's one of their last singles before they gave up trying to compete in the Top 40 market in 1970 or so: THE EVERLY BROTHERS. LORD OF THE MANOR:

Walk Right Back
Love that song. One of my all-time favorites! The story goes that Phil and Don loved Sonny Curtis' song so much that they didn't even give him time to write additional verses -- they recorded it with the two verses he'd finished and arranged it cleverly, accordingly.

God Harry Nilsson was a sick sick manMan, he had a helluva way with a song. Period.

that is awesome about the story of that song, never heard that. definitely a sweet ol melody, great timing. its funny cause Harry had an affinity for real innocent pop melodies and then he's dirty them up slightly. his At My Front Door by the El Dorados is a great example. and of course Without You and Everybody's Talkin. all the great 60's bands emulated the Everly Brothers style harmony vocals. they were one of the first really professional sounding pop groups doing pop songs dripping in that duo harmony vocal. and then came the Beach Boys. and the Beatles and tons others. Nilsson fo sho

"EB '84," the reunion album to which Paul contributed "On the Wings of a Nightingale," is a fine piece of work. "The First in Line" is gorgeous. Those boys can sing.
