anyone know the story of two This One vidoes?

Anyone know why there seem to be two official This One videos? I'm familiar with the one depicting Paul in India taking a spiritual journey with Krishna and a swan. I was obsessed with it when it first came out. then today I saw this one:
it looks vaguely familiar like I've seen it before, and it is obviously official too. anyone know why there are two videos? Oh, the original one I saw is here to compare the two: -

Wow, great stuff, I've never seen this 2nd video. Looks official, but shame about the poor picture quality on this copy.
-
Never saw this before. I like the other one better than "this one." (pun intended!)

I've got a few compilation dvds of videos & saw this one awhile ago. There are multiple takes on many...but a few do have completely different videos.

Not particularly a fan of that alternate video. Very user-unfriendly. I'd get a headache watching that more than once.

I don't think I've ever seen that video before. Anyway, it is official and was the second of two videos Paul made for 'This One'. It was filmed in early July 1988 at Hog Hill studios by director Dean Chamberlain with the paintings of Rene Margritte being the source of inspiration. The more commonly seen Tim Pope directed video had been made a week earlier.

Ah yes, I was wondering how long it would take someone to spot that (cough) 'deliberate' mistake? Yes, you're right of course, It should have been July 1989. I was getting mixed up with the year the song was recorded. Well, that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking with it.

Yes,it was Dean Chamberlain who directed the second promo,Tim Pope having directed the first.

I had heard one of the videos was heavily criticized. anyone know which one?
-
I have seen the first (less common) video before and remember reading at the time that there were indeed two videos make for 'This One' (I agree with others in that I like the one with Paul's eyelids painted...LOL)...but if there's any story beyond that, I don't know anything about that.. I tend to think Paul just likes to add a lot of 'artsy' ambiance to some of his videos (of course, such as is the case of 'World Tonight', not so much...LOL)
-
I'd definitely prefer this 2nd version if it weren't so blurred.

I once heard rumors among fans that the India oriented one was a comment to George on his influence. Back in the late 80s when this video was made, George made a lot of snarky public comments about Paul
