Yeah, the Butcher Cover is about the only thing I don't have that I want! Would love to come across one for $35!

By the time I saw the butcher cover being sold on eBay, it was too late! It was just sold for $1000.00! I've been looking for one for years. $35.00 would have been the deal of a lifetime!

Also, per the site 'how stuff works', the butcher cover version of yesterday and today is ranked the third rarest pop/rock record...and the two that are in front of it are also Beatles related; Acetate disk from the Quarrymen in 1958 and the copy of John Lennon's Double Fantasy that he autographed for MDC (must be some mixed feelings for who ever owns that one)
I saw in Letters of Note a letter by MDC to some record dealer trying to sell it. So I think he might still have it or did for a very long time
One of the cops picked it up and gave it to somebody who kept it under their bed for 20 years and then sold it. (That's what I read anyway) After minimal research: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/john-lennon-mark-chapman-album-auction/
Seems like it's still on the market: http://momentsintime.com/double-fantasy-album-signed-by-john-lennon-for-mark-chapman/ I really wonder how much they want for it.

I saw a third-state Butcher Cover a friend had in his collection he got from his older brother. It was a pretty bad peel job as I recall. Still, it was the famous Butcher Cover and he kept it.

Whoever gets it should destroy it!

It's not on all of them. My original album doesn't have it.

I believe the total of "recalled" butcher covers was around 750,000. Most just had the Trunk cover glued over the top of the butcher cover and sent back to record dealers. After they initially sold out, the Trunk cover became the standard cover. The President of Capitol Records grabbed a case of the recalled album for himself, and he started selling them a few at a time in the 1980's. That is where the source of most "first state" butcher covers comes from.

John Lennon had a box of the original butcher cover LPs. I remember reading about a couple of super fans who were invited up to John's apartment, they showed him rare footage of the Beatles in concert, he then told them some stories about seeing a UFO over Central Park, then played them the Beatles' "How Do You Do It" and gave them each a brand new butcher cover that he signed for them.

I've been ripping my new box set of The U.S. Albums -- they contain the mono and stereo versions of each song. When I got to the Yesterday And Today album I was pleasantly surprised to see that they included a sticker of the trunk cover which was sitting on top of the cardboard sleeve of the "butcher" cover. Not sure who in their right mind would actually apply it to the cover and I'm not sure how long the sticker will last without starting to degrade, but I thought it was a cool touch

OMG, that would be my fantasy come true!
