When and how did you become a Beatles fan?

When I heard the opening thunder of "I Want To Hold Your Hand" on the radio, I thought.."What a great sound, who is that?" I soon found out. The sound was unlike anything being played on the radio then....it and they changed everything.

I remember that too, 4Ever....it was so exciting back then, wasn't it? When I look at the video of the Beatles singing this song I just re-live that feeling all over again. I remember even as a kid noticing how the three guitarists held their guitars differently when I would have expected them to hold them the same. I still am not quite sure why John held his so high up on his chest almost like he's hugging it. As I know nothing about being a musician, it's not something I understand and I never looked into it. Oh, and I always noticed how their feet kept moving as they sang...quite different than someone like Ricky Nelson who stood still and almost didn't ever blink like he was having a private staring contest with his audience, there was that little movement when he sang.

Totally!!! My older sisters LOVED Ricky Nelson and we watched Ozzie and Harriett every week. (I liked him too, actually; even though I was a boy, I knew he was cute. lol) I was not quite yet 7 when the Beatles hit. I was pretty well immersed in music from my older siblings, but recognized the difference immediately....of the Beatles. They had me from those first guitar licks I heard on the radio...and then the haircuts....and the...everything else when I watched them on Ed Sullivan! Their music endures. I do have "Poor Little Fool," "Teenage idol" and "Lonesome Town" on my iPod too, however.

Pawel:
1,000/1,500 US dollars is an average, which means that A LOT of people live on less than that, 500 maybe 800 if they're lucky. The thing is that if during communist times prices in the East were relatively low, today they are about the same as in the rest of western Europe. E.g. petrol is only 10% cheaper than in Germany or France. Still, you'd be surprised to see HOW MUCH Poland has changed for the better in the last 25 years. And as a matter of fact, coincidentally, this very month we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union. Poland 30 years ago was all black-and-white, all shabby, gloomy and sad. Obviously, there are still a lot of places like this even today, but the change has been dramatic, especially in bigger cities.
I'm glad for the history lesson. I need to remember that people around the world have very different stories than someone growing up in the US.

As I've mentioned, I'm a longtime Paul and Beatles fan ...since 1964...and that's why I FINALLY came to this site a little over two months ago. Although I've enjoyed reading so many of the interesting and witty posts here and have also enjoyed writing many posts and creating new threads, I'm not quite sure at this point in time that this is the right place for me to be anymore. I need to figure that out still. I'd like to say one thing though if I could. No matter what this place may be proud to say it is, I hope it will never lose sight of the fact that although we can't see each others' faces, it really is just a big Starbucks and we're all sitting around talking directly to each other at a large table about a subject we love. We have at least THAT in common. All of the people at the table have feelings. Many of the people at the table have worries and problems in their real, everyday lives too and they most likely come here to escape them. It's their personal Paul and Beatles oasis. At least that is what it has been for me for most...some... of these past two and a half months. Peace to all no matter where the long and winding road takes you. And The Beatles wouldn't want it any other way, I'm sure. Scarlett
