I liked the video a lot and absolutely love the song when I first heard when NEW was released.. I wish he would play this song and drop Here Today on his current tour...

This is Paul's best music video ever. Period. It actually choked me up. Just beautiful.
Couldn't agree with you more, Bruce. Early Days is, in my opinion, the best song on NEW and I'm glad they took their time to make a really good relevant video. Hopefully, Paul will sing it "live" on the tour. I would put this video up with Pipes of Peace and Coming Up as Paul's best.

Bruce M.:
Despite the burst of social media activity, the video only has about 33,000 views. Let's hope people keep spreading the word. I'd love to see all the recent activity bring the album back onto the charts in the U.S.
Good point. Paul cant compete with young, hip artists like Lana Del Ray, whose videos get 10's of millions of views. 'New' is the album Paul should have release in 1986, instead of 'Press to Play'.

Would it blow your mind to know that the director of Early Days is Vincent Haycock, who also directed Lana Del Rey's West Coast video....? (On a side note, I totally love Lana Del Rey's latest album. New's track, "Road", seems to cross over into similar musical territory as most of Lana's work. Just a random observation!)

C'mon Paul, let's get this song in the setlist!!

Paul puts a lot of effort and imagination into his videos. I always look forward to seeing them. Early days is a beautiful song and the video goes really well with it. I like way he has used black and white to give the video a traditional feel.
-
That's what I call a video Simply perfect ~ great because it was black & white and the sentiments were touching, thank you Paul 'may it come to you time and time again'
-
Very well shot. Reminds me of the Stranglehold video. Not a track I'd listen to on the album though. I'll probably never listen to it again.

Great video...but where was Johnny Depp?

I believe Depp was 1 of the musicians jamming with Paul at 4:30. All that trouble for a 1 second cameo?!?

I would accept half a second!

But he wouldn't have been able to make that album in '86. For one thing, he hadn't had the life experiences that led to some of the songs like the ones about Nancy his wife.

Still beats giving us a teaser of a minute of Depp sitting under a table wearing headphones and doing nothing. I want that minute of my life back

I loved the video. I was touched when I saw it was about two kids in the rural south instead of about two teens in Liverpool in the late 50s (though I think Paul already covered that one with Take It Away). I cried at the ending with the funeral of one of the pair of friends and I felt it was the memorial wake that John never had.

This album wouldn't have made any sense in 1986. Much of New is very reflective and even back in 1986 much of the experiences he sings about on this album were not even 30 year old memories. Beatlemania was only 22 years old by then.

I quite like it though I'm not sure why the American South??? It seems a bit arbitrary could be 2 Kids starting out on their Musical journey in Latin America...Sure, the Blues influenced the Beatles but so did many other Musical styles....and the Blues certainly isn't a major part of Paul's body of work. In other words if this was a Stones or Keith Richards video I'd get it. Their music is much more influenced by black/blues music than The Beatles or Paul ever were. Also I wonder whether this is a calculated bow to all the "cool" videos featuring young hip blacks...any thoughts?

Junk:

Paul had several blues-based songs: Nothing Too Much Just Out Of Sight Light from your Lighthouse On the Way Oh Woman Oh Why These are just off the top of my head. I'm sure he had several more.

^^ I was thinking that The Beatles, when they were growing up, were influenced greatly by American popular music they listened to on the radio. Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, and many more. Those American musicians were in turn influenced by Appalachian Mountain Music and The Blues from the American South. When I consider those factors I understand why they chose to use The American South in the video. It is very fitting imo. Beautiful video. i.e. The Blues: Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, many more...
