The archive remasters series is becoming a joke.

It would be great if the 'Where's my dinner?' people could just shut up and play with their toys in the pram instead of throwing em on the floor. McCartney is an active artist, not just a legacy artist and if he and Scott Rodgers, with whom he conceived the whole project, see fit to tie them to his present day activities as well as with Beatles releases, then even if that means waiting until some over-exuberant children are DEAD, I'm all for it.

I'l be happy to receive the remastered Venus and Mars CD just so I can edit out the dreadful "You Gave Me The Answer" and insert "Junior's Farm" from the bonus disc in its place. And to receive the new Speed of Sound just to totally banish the embarrassing "Cook Of The House"! Don't see anything on the bonus disc to insert in its place, however. I just want to pretend those two "songs" never existed! Just ordered both remastered CDs from Amazon for $15.88 each....just the CDs. Don't need or want books, etc., that I'll never look at.....

I find it very difficult to believe that there is no demo of Paul singing The Note You Never Wrote. I have unhappily come to the conclusion that this archive project is a botch job, so I'll hang onto my 80s release Cds. Far from sounding thin, I find their sound quality superior to the smiley face EQ used to remaster everything these days.

Most of the stuff is on bootleg anyway
You bring up a good point... and some of my favourite bootlegs were things I bought on cassette thirty years ago, which no longer can be played, and were barely audible at the time.... but I am figuring if we as a society have to upgrade TV's, stereo systems, I-phones and all matter of medias every few years, including updates from album to DVD, that we should get some bang for our buck. Surely, there has to come a time where the advent of technology and new releases (i.e. bang for our buck) eventually renders the "bootleg" obsolete.

The bootleggers are always one step ahead in technology before the "official" archivists get to anything. Very frustrating! I doubt that bootlegs will ever be obsolete.

There will always be unreleased songs & videos for bootleggers to boot. :

over the years I've managed to get most of my old lp and cassette bootlegs on Cd so I'm pretty happy

I like the remastered stuff. I am not that convinced that the sound is any clearer then the original releases but it does seem you can play them loader. I wish the deluxe versions were priced much lowers

shame on me for assuming, but I figured that the file-sharing/downloading times in which we live pretty much put most bootleggers out of business years ago. I would never buy an unauthorized product that's bound to eventually end up online anyway. I'm aware of fan-DVDs, etc. but I thought that was a trading/sharing culture. Am I being naive?

I've always traded and swapped and given away stuff I'd hate to buy a bootleg I've done it twice the DVD wings over oz and the cassette the piano sessions. My extensive set of bootlegs has been given throughout the years by mates etc and likewise I have given many

Yes, most things are traded, swapped, downloaded...but the bootleggers are alive & well. Some people want everything right away & will pay to get it rather than wait for it to come along. Some become bootleggers by trying to improve the quality of what is out there...I imagine.

Yes, there are still plenty of bootlegs out there to buy. Not my thing, but the idea is that this stuff is put onto real CDs and DVDs, as opposed to CD-Rs and DVD-Rs, which degrade much faster. And it's the idea of having something physical with nice packaging, rather than just a digital file on a computer. Not a priority for me, but I understand why some people want them.

I think these remasters are beautifully done. I actually wish they'd sell the books separately. For me...that's what "makes" the package. If they just throw a few songs or a 20 minute dvd at you...I don't get too excited. But being able to look into these archives...pictures & notes written during the sessions...that is what I am looking for. I've pre-ordered both.

Nope...no one said that. That is just a pic of the boot that was mentioned that I found in a google search. The Piano Tapes may have been 1974 & they added stuff to it. But who knows when it was made...could have been 1990?
