Has 'New' album reached Platinum sales yet?

I agree with 99.999% of your post, "nobodytoldme." I believe that Paul McCartney does give a rat's ass; it's just that his marketing instincts suck the big one. His staff, however, seemingly don't give a rat's ass -- they're too busy cashing-in on the ex-Beatle angle.

Agreed.

If Paul McCartney has another album in the can right now, I'd encourage him to get it out ASAP -- take advantage of this publicity that Kanye West has brought him, especially for something current.

True. "About You" was SCREAMING to be released.
AND That should have opened the album

Brian Ray was asked about that song in a 2005 interview. The interviewer said that song was awesome and should be on the setlist (two years after the Driving tour ended, mind you). Brian agreed that it was a great track -- which was the extent of his response. In the McCartney camp, you're not allowed to have any public opinions other than glowing praise of Sir Paul.

I think I had heard it was the first song played with that line-up and Paul on those sessions..played live

A poster in a Beatles chat room complained about "Hosanna" and "Scared" saying they sound bad to him, but I find those songs from "New" beautiful and emotional. "Hosanna" a sweetly lilting love song, sounds Spanish to me, its melody. "Scared" a very moving piano ballad, deeply felt. Reminded me again that art is subjective.

Totally agree with you Susy. By coincidence or not, they happen to be my two favourite tracks from what is generally a very strong album.

My two least favorites on the album, to be honest. So, yes, it's subjective.

What? Has it reached PLATINUM?

Hosanna and Scared are for me the clear worse songs on the album. By a grinding mile/kilometre... even if Scared is a deserved "hidden" track. The album needed a real true "ballad". Hosanna, if that was the song's purpose, misses the mark by some way. I don't like either of them.... but I love/like/appreciate the rest of the album.

What? Has it reached PLATINUM?
Or perhaps has it reached Rhodium status?

I agree with you on those two songs, "Hosanna was also "hyped" before "New" was released and to me it added to the disappointment. I guess "Early Days" is the closest thing to a "ballad" on "New" and IMO much better than "Hosanna".

When the album finally came out, Paul McCartney did the talk-show rounds and spent 90% of the interviews rehashing Beatle anecdotes. As for the Jimmy Kimmel appearance: I would've preferred that ABC had aired "New" only and not a second performance ("Lady Madonna"?). Plugging an album should be the focus, not secondary.

"Hosanna" and "Struggle" haven't resonated with me, although "Hosanna" has its merits -- I think the production darn near muted the song's melody. I think it should be re-recorded.

I'll split the difference - I didn't care for Hosanna but liked Scared

You know he does actually have a Rhodium Disc, right?
