Hey Anita...I heard earlier that Rod Taylor passed away.
-
^ Hi Steve, I heard the sad news late last night. Thankfully we are left with many great performances by which we may remember Rod. I just watched Sunday in New York this past Wednesday evening, The Time Machine this past Saturday evening, and over the holiday break we had The Birds and 101 Dalmatians in the DVD player. Rod will be missed!

Rod Taylor was also in one of the more disturbing Twilight Zone episodes.

It makes a good double feature with Singin' In the Rain. I have a 2-disc soundtrack album of the two.
I watch Singin' in the Rain every Thanksgiving. It's become a tradition, for some reason.

Just watched Rome Adventure... A great movie!! Was enjoying so many places I've been lucky enough to see, with my traveling aunt! They went to Verona and went in the ancient amphitheater that Paul played in! Wondering if Paul might be going back next summer?!

Yes, a very good episode from the first season! For those who may be interested: And When the Sky Was Opened:

Glad you enjoyed the film, l2t! Always find it enjoyable to note places in film that I have visited, particularly in classic film. When I see places in film that I have visited, I think of my trip there, when visiting, I think of films that were shot there. Often, I photograph particular places so that I may make then and now comparisons. Last night's theme was Love, Italian Style. We watched Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn, and very early this morning we watched Gidget Goes to Rome.

Roman Holiday is another one I always enjoy! I'll have to try Gidget Goes To Rome on your recommendation

^ Not sure I want to put the recommendation stamp on Gidget Goes to Rome. If one is female and about 13 - 17 years of age, it's a cute film! If one is a Gidget fan and has never seen this film it is worth seeing. Filmed in Italy, so worth the time in sights, particularly if one has been to Italy. You may enjoy this film with your travels in mind. My girls (15 years-old) enjoy the Gidget films, hence our taking the time to view. This film is very much a product of its time. If you have access to On Demand this film is available until the 19th.

Thanks for the info, I can remember Gidget, so I would enjoy it, as well as all the sights of Italy, any time...it's like a time machine, going back... Just wish I could get some authentic Italian food to go with the movie and some wine too! Ciao Oh, missed the tribute, hope I can catch some of it this weekend!

Saw some of "Somebody Up There Likes Me" today on TCM, the Rocky Balboa story starring Paul Newman (he is such a babe!), it's gritty, gutsy, reeks of reality for a movie...Rocky endures some mighty hard knocks (and then finds success dealing 'em out!), brings some of it on himself but the movie shows his hard scruffy upbringing in a poor part of NYC--Newman is impressive with the tough Noo Yawk accent, seeing as he's from the Midwest, and impressive with enacting a boxer...of course, he wanted to be an actor, in his real life. A genuine boxer might spit at the idea of being a sensitive actor. I don't know. But Newman pretty much nailed it. "Pat and Mike" with Spencer Tracy and Kate Hepburn was on later. Too much golf, at the beginning, but I wish I'd watched the whole thing. Gary Cooper starred as a famous baseball player right after the Paul Newman boxing flick. I should have watched that, just for Cooper if nothing else, but am sure other great qualities were on show. In the show. Saw a bit of "Magnificent Obsession" with Rock Hudson (what a hunk!) who portrayed the very personification of sensitivity and romance in his role, was almost supernaturally tender--seen Tuesday, following a fun Bette Davis film which was also a "woman's picture" and was a corker. She pretended to her husband she was his son's mother but actually it was her sister's baby. A melodrama par excellence.

I assume the Cooper film was "Pride of the Yankees." You really should have watched it, Susy. It is one of the all time great "biopics."

Yes, Cooper played Lou Gerig
