Should Paul do a Christmas Album?
-
Most Christmas albums are terrible. The only ok ones I can think of are Tori Amos and Jethro Tull, but even they were not spectacular. Bob Dylan's was awful - so I would say "No".

Would be curious what others think. My initial gut feel is NO. Like most people here, I am a huge Macca fan and my concern would be Paul's 72 year old voice handling Christmas standards that everyone knows. I think there would be one caveot for the opposite opinion on the subject. If Paul happen to find the inspiration to write a brand new, good to very good Christmas Song then I think it would make a lot of sense to tackle a complete CD of Christmas songs. A great new original (and possible new McCartney Standard) would be the imputus for Paul to possibly have a hit album on his hands. I know this is a big if (New Christmas Song) but the rest of the CD could be very plausable provided it met this criteria: 1. songs that would fit Macca's 72 year old voice 2. some great lesser known tracks that might be hidden gems 3.add some songs from his back Catalogue that would fit the theme 1.... there are so many Christmas songs but Paul needs the right producer who would be honest with Paul. Maybe the producer Paul would hire would have a track record of producing successful Christmas albums. Using the Kisses on the Bottom CD as an example, there were some songs where I thought Paul sounded real good and others not so much. It is a matter of Paul and the Produces finding a few where his current voice matches the songs well. 2... Like Paul has done with Kisses and Run Devil Run, the lesser known gems would be a huge plus. I just by accident bought Emmy Lou Harris' Light of the Stable CD and it was filled with these lesser known gems. Songs like Light of the Stable, Christmas Time's A Coming, Angel Eyes, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem and There's a Light are examples of Christmas songs I hadn't heard before that I am now loving. 3....The obvious Catalogue song that could be part of the Track listing would be Wonderful Christmas Time (possibly the closing track) but Paul has a couple of other songs that might fit the theme. I'm thinking of Dance Till We're high (Electric Arguments) and Once Upon a Along Ago. Are there any other existing Paul songs that might also fit a Christmas theme. Please let us know. What do you think? Could Paul do this without a new original Christmas song or like me, do you think that this is a must to even consider a full Christmas album.
Without a doubt, the answer is "No" IMO. I just think Christmas albums should be done by singers like "Idina Menzel", "Tony Bennet" to name a couple.

This is a pretty good Christmas album.
Carpenters Christmas Portrait -
A new christmas song each year would be cool, but don't see the point of a christmas album. His voice could handle it no probs though. I let my mum hear his version of the christmas song (chestnuts) , and she thought it was Mel Torme , so there you go !

No. Besides he makes enough money with wonderful Christmas time, along with all other Christmas songs he owns.
-
Absolutely not. So sick of remake after remake of Christmas songs.
-
He has "From Then to You", the 1970 collection of the Beatles fan club Christmas singles. It is perhaps more spoken messages than actual music but it is an album of Christmas.

I'm thinking Elvis is the only one who can get away with a Christmas album.
Well I like Mariah Carey's.

There are some Christmas albums I enjoy. The latest must be Bob Dylan's "Christmas in the Heart", from 2009. I thought it was a charming effort. And Ringo Starr's "I Wanna Be Santa Claus" from 1999 is also a fun rocking Christmas album. To name a few...

That album was sent to Beatles Fan Club members in '70-'71 only, and never was available to the public. Most copies to be found now are counterfeit. A true LP copy on Apple Records is a rare collectible.

err the moodiesw and jethro tull did and guess what both are crap, didn't even bother buying the jt as I had the best two sons since like 76. xmas albums all the worst about American advertising industry and also so poor creativity,. the beatles hads many crimbo no.1's and they were coke cola inspired.

I enjoy The Jethro Tull Christmas Album, it's from the 00's and not from their glory days in the 70s but they still add some brilliant musicianship to Christmas music. These are very good musicians.

I was a member and I have one! (plus a few of the individual years)

I have a CD replica of "From Then to You" that I found on Amazon some years ago. I don't know of any official release so it might be a bootleg. It was a record I missed in my collection so I was just happy that I found it.

: I think it was "From Us To You." There were 7 Xmas records ('63 to '69) They were the size of a 45 but were on thin floppy black vinyl. I think they were played at 33 1/3 though.

I checked it out and the CD I have is actually "From Then to You". But as I mentioned it is possibly an unoffical release. Maybe they changed the title. Hey, I found it here, on Discogs, I will link it: http://www.discogs.com/Beatles-From-Then-To-You/release/2362563

I think he should do a christmas in the summer album with a touch of easter to it. Maybe some autumnal carols...

Oh, I see. Definitely a bootleg. (it even says "unofficial" right there) On the 1963 Xmas record they sang a song (to the tune of From Me To You) which was "From Us To You." That was where I got that. This is the album I got from the fan club: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=the+beatles+christmas+album&qpvt=the+beatles+christmas+album&qpvt=the+beatles+christmas+album&FORM=IGRE

If he did, he should cover this:
Only John could write a political, anti-war song masquerading as a Christmas song and turn it into a classic!

Paul already has...Put the following Macca songs into a Christmas EP and release it: Wonderful Christmastime Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reggae Once Upon a Long Ago Dance Till We're High Pipes of Peace Footprints Winter Rose The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) Christmas Time is Here Again
