If The Beatles Existed Today and Toured The Same As Paul
-
If Beatles were touring now WITHOUT Paul...Awkward
-
The Beatles were the first "super group," they would not be the first if they had started today. They'd make it real big though, of course
-
The Butterfly effect... if the Beatles had not been around in the first instant... music would never have taken its hold on people as it did in the 60's.... music as it is known today would never have been something that could influence a generation and transcend time... thus, over the ensuing decades music would be appreciated but not revered.... there would be no one saying "this/they are the best thing since The Beatles". And then, regardless of their advent, up would spring The Beatles.... who as individuals and as a group, would rise to influence time and generations just as they were always destined to do. The Beatles were always going to do it. Just a matter of time when they did. And if it was 1960's or the 1860's or the new millennium, or 2055.... well, I'm a little bias, but nothing comes close to beating those guys.... They were always going to be the best

I don't know about that. Music has always been pretty powerful. The Beatles influenced everyone after them, but they were influenced by the people before them. If they came out today, the 60s would have been very different, but there still would have been powerful music.

I respectfully disagree. Without The Beatles in the '60's it would have been a bunch of bland Pat Boone type stuff. Well, until Elvis did his comeback special in 1968, that is.

I can't believe people like Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Carlos Santana, Jerry Garcia, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes and so many other Motown acts would have all quit if The Beatles had come along later. Maybe a lot of the one hit wonders and groups that never really lasted very long might have done better without The Beatles' dominance. Not to mention all the great music from people in other genres. I can't believe jazz, country, classical and everything else would have stopped without The Beatles. The Beatles were great, but the power of music is greater.
-
All we can do is speculate, we don't know exactly what the 60s would have been like without the Beatles. But they would have been different. Maybe better, maybe worse. We just don't know. We do know the Beatles helped define the era to a great degree as far as pop culture is concerned. To understand the 60s, one should listen to the Beatles.

So many musicians, including some of those you mentioned, were influenced to pick up a guitar (or whatever) and perform because of The Beatles. In other words, they wouldn't have existed as a band or solo artist without The Beatles. Now Motown acts are another story, as well as jazz, country, etc. I was speaking of pop music/classic rock.

Yes, it's different times, I like to think that they would have approached creating music if they existed today also, not dancing... Lennon went to art school, McCartney was a multi-instrumentalist already in the early days, Harrison had a particular guitar style and sound. The songwriters... The Beatles was a creative band, from a musical perspective, they weren't circus clowns.
Even John referred to their unhappy touring days as them being "performing fleas."
John said lots of things. I doubt they were unnhappy in their touring days. They were certainly happier than about 69. If anything they didn't like playing such short shows.
-
The Beatles stopped touring because audiences were not listening to them and their playing was suffering from it. Also, all the hassles and the fact is, in 1966, they were not selling tickets as well as in previous years. All that burned them out.
-
If they were playing today, they'd all be with us. That would be awesome.

I think the original poster invisioned them as young men with us today. So that wouldn't change the fact that George would die later of cancer. Probably would change John's fate as his killer would be dead from old age by the time John was 40!

I see what you're saying, and no one denies they were influential, but I'm pretty sure the people I named were all musicians before The Beatles were famous. The point is, The Beatles didn't save music. They changed the way it's recorded and may have saved the industry, at least temporarily. But music always was and always will be.

Not all of the people you named were (popular) musicians before 1963 or 1964. *confused* I guess we will just agree to mostly disagree.

They would be ridiculed as Stones, Who, Kinks, ELO, Oasis imitators...

The Beatles didn't save music, correct. Music needed no saving. Music was always great. Needed no saving.... But The Beatles "redefined" music. They elevated it into another stratosphere. Took it by the scruff and threw it into the clouds. And they remain the greatest "Since the" in any comparative. Their musical genius is one thing. But they made it PERSONAL for people, and for a generation, and those to follow. Suddenly, through The Beatles, music defined a time AND a decade. And beyond. And every move they made, every step they took, took on paramount significance. You won't ever watch a special on the 60's, ever, without the Beatles being at the forefront. No other band has had that impact.... on any decade, or any century or any millennium... If the Beatles did not have that impact at that time, music would be very different.... they are quite simply the greatest influence on music ever, and I don't see that ever being usurped.
