Set List critique

The thing is, Paul doesn't have to learn new songs for each tour or each concert. He can just rotate songs in and out. Like: For No One Fool On The Hill Penny Lane Hello Goodbye You Won't See Me Letting Go Too Many People Coming Up Fixing A Hole Getting Better Big Barn Bed Ram On Junior's Farm Come And Get It Let 'Em In Another Girl These are all songs that have been performed before. No need to learn them. How about some upbeat fun soundcheck tunes? Maybe Baby Twenty Flight Rock Matchbox Honey Don't Long Tall Sally Midnight Special Hippy Hippy Shake It would not be that difficult to move some around, change them about, open with a different tune every concert.

+ several other tunes from the last 5 years like: Venus and Mars/Rockshow, Bluebird, Dance Tonight, Only Mamas Knows,... or Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Word, Your mother should know,... + all the "New" songs which were rehearsed. Didn't told Abe in "somethink new" that nearly the complete album was rehearsed : : : ?

IMO - the problem with this list is there is nothing after 1980 and I think that is the main complaint from myself and others. Outside of the 3-4 songs from the latest album/CD, it is like Mr. McCartney never did anything else after Wings.

Oops! I did forget that part. I was actually thinking of the path of least resistance. But yeah, why not: Take It Away No More Lonely Nights My Brave Face This One Hope Of Deliverance C'mon People Flaming Pie Beautiful Night Fine Line Only Mama Knows New Queenie Eye etc.

I've only seen Paul in concert twice -- once in 2009 and again in 2013. There were 19 different songs on the 2013 setlist compared with the 2009 show. That seems like a pretty big setlist change to me. The problem, as we all know, is that Paul's schedule means his tour is spread out over 3 years rather than condensed into a four or five month period. So it seems like the show never changes because it's the same show spread out over 3 years. Lots of artists have a static setlist in the confines of one tour. Paul's coming near me again this summer but I'm not going because I already saw the Out There tour. When he starts a new tour, with a revised set list, then I'll go again. In a heartbeat. But I was massively satisfied with both of the shows I saw. And clearly he's not trying to appeal to me again with the latest Out There dates; he's trying to capture fans who haven't seen the show in cities he hasn't been to.
"I've only seen Paul in concert twice -- once in 2009 and again in 2013. Yes, he may throw in a couple of different Beatle or Wings songs but his solo work has been ignored and he has been a solo artist for the last 35 years !!

Much better - lol !! Some of my favorites I mentioned before would be "Promise To You Girl", "That Was Me', "House of Wax", I Can Bet" and "Dance Til We're High".

I don't have a problem with the Beatles-heavy set list for the Out There tour since it seems designed to celebrate the various 50th anniversaries of the Beatles, and understandably so. The 50th is a big deal. But he certainly didn't ignore his late-career solo work when I saw him in 2009. Aside from a bunch of Wings songs, he played Only Mama Knows, Flaming Pie, Highway, Dance Tonight, Here Today, Calico Skies, and Sing the Changes.

To add to this from a different perspective...the first time I saw Paul he only played My Love, Live and Let Die, Band on The Run, Jet, Let Me Roll it, and Mrs. Vandebilt to represent WINGS NOW, look at all that he's playing in the set (and has played over the past few years) It's still not very proportional in terms of quantity, but it seems like when we complained on here about needing more Wings....we instantly got the likes of Venus and Mars, 1985, Junior's Farm...

Yes, I am very happy with this. In 2002-2010 he had the same setlist a whole tour long, sometimes up to 10+ countries and tens and tens of dates. The solo songs included were only the new album songs and very, very, very big hits (and 'Let Me Roll It', for some strange reason). Now, since 2010 we got a nice selection of songs, including album tracks, which was unthinkable before that time. Still the pace of additions (2 or 3 solo songs a tour every 2-3 years) is way too slow, but it's so much better than before 2010.

... Seriously, who's going to make that 'Alligator', or more safe, 'Big Barn Bed'-banner for the Amsterdam gigs? Do it two nights in a row and it's going to be a staple for the coming 5 years for the rest of the world to enjoy as well as "spontaneous" bit in the set, hehe...
Here's the signs I used at a show I attended...with no luck.

I think it was the best setlist for fans of Beatle Paul that wanted nearly all the hits and the important deep cuts. But to say versatile, I feel that would require a set that's a bit more including of at least all the hits from his golden decade (which I would branch from 1964-1974)...imo, the Up and Coming Tour did the best job of that...maybe the current Out There tour, but there's some pretty goofy songs in and out of the current set.
-
And don't forget "I'll get you"!
-
Or Til There Was You! The Chaos songs worked well too: Fine Line Jenny Wren Follow Me english Tea

"maybe the current Out There tour, but there's some pretty goofy songs in and out of the current set." Why he is playing "All Together Now" and "For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite" is mind boggling to me. I want more solo songs and these two could easily be replaced without offending the Beatle Paul fans. If not, then keep a song like "Another Girl" from "Help"in the setlist for the remainder tour.

We All Stand Together" perhaps he hopes that one stimulates a sense of unity in the audience--"BEing for the Benefit of Mr. Kite"--that song might especially remind him of John Lennon, for some reason, bring back extra-fond memories. These might be fun for him to sing. Something like that?
