Set List critique

Hey, if you gotta go, you gotta go! I doubt anyone really says, "Oh, the band are picking up acoustic guitars, time to leave until they pick up electric guitars."
It's actually funny, I mentioned this a few times before, but I paid attention to this "crowd getting up"-shock a bit in 2011/2012, and I noticed the crowd being the most lacklustre during 'Let Me Roll It' and 'I've Got A Feeling'. Guess it's the tempo. Especially the latter had an atmosphere killing place in the set, overstayed its welcome by at last 2 years.

Bathroom break. A Yank tradition at concerts.
lol, a lady here jumped on my throat for much less than that so watch your back, dear Sir!
Lol lol, same, I got called a racist once over a sarcastic remark, which ironically enough, even after multiple explanations, only didn't translate the way it obviously was meant, to a certain crowd of people . Those rose-tinted glasses are strong sometimes. A break during a concert?!* Never did, never will. And especially not when Paul McCartney is performing right in front of you. *medical reasons aside, of course
I agree 100% bro. I wish I could go to Amsterdam to attend the concert with you!!!

I agree. I have been to concerts where even the musicians had to go to the bathroom. Because they were drunk or whatever... But the audience was younger and the artists were younger. The rock era was not over.

Hey Paul even has a song called "Nature is Calling Me". It's on a bootleg.

I saw a few people climbing down stairs to go grab a beer or pee pee or whatever while Paul sang an acoustic number "I've Just Seen a Face" I think it was--could hardly believe it, but perhaps those were the more casual type fans. The guy sitting beside me with his child told me he could hardly believe it. I remember when "Calico Skies" and "Flaming Pie" were staples at Paul concerts and wonder if these two slower tempo and acoustic numbers prompted a similar response in some. If so, probably not many.

I've only done it ONCE and I was about to burst! Fedex Field I knew I had to pee right around "Sing The Changes" but I thought for sure I could make it...well...the first encore kicked off with "Day Tripper"...and I had to run for it!
Holding it in for two hours is NO way to enjoy a concert.

What's up with this bathroom thing? In my day, we used to talk about the music. Is there something I've missed?

I can't believe that some folks find relieving oneself at a two-and-a-half-hour concert offensive. I don't care if Hendrix came back from the dead; if he's onstage for that long, I'm gonna be boozin' -- and, subsequently, making a pit stop.
-
Personally, I get a buzz just from being there. I can get drunk anytime (like, at home with one of his live DVDs). I might have one drink beforehand, just enough to get a head start, but not so much that I need to take a bathroom break. And it's not just because I don't want to miss the show, but also because the restrooms in those places can be pretty gross, and crowded, and uncomfortable, and awkward.

You're so American, Audi!

Interesting article re legacy vs relevance in concerts using The Rolling Stones and U2 as examples, though it applies to Paul as well: http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/may/22/u2-rolling-stones-tour-different-paths

"Do you hang in there creatively until the bitter end, or do you kick back and polish your gleaming legacy for as long as you can?" For Paul, it seems the answer is "both": He hangs in there creatively in the studio (I think few would disagree that Paul's output over the past 25 years is superior to the Stones'), but he polishes his legacy onstage, for the most part. Nostalgia is powerful because it takes people back to a time when they were much younger. You can see it in their eyes, and apparently Paul likes that look!

I agree, very interesting article. I prefer what U2 will be doing in comparison to the Rolling Stones.

Good points and that is what frustrates me about Mr. McCartney. He has been incredibly creative the last 15-20 years with critical acclaim and yet it gets neglected IMO on stage.

The Stones haven't made many albums since their Steel Wheels comeback ( only 3 studio albums in the past 20 years? and the most recent was almost 10 years ago) whereas McCartney and U2 have been active in the studio. Are we expecting any minty fresh surprises in London?!

You could say there was at least one minty fresh surprise!

Yep! A refreshing surprise but still no signs of a major overhaul. The rest of the set was business as usual.

Yes no major overhaul but he also dropped Day Tripper for Another Girl, slowly but surely I guess

I give him credit for adding "Temporary Secretary" even if I don't care for the track...it says a lot, and I like what it says I'd move "Another Girl" out of the encore...it really doesn't belong there. Swap it with "Can't Buy Me Love"...that's encore material!
