Chaos and Creation in the Backyard - 10 years ago today

A masterpiece! On September 9, 2005 Paul released Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. This 20 track solo album contained all original McCartney songs which was amazing almost 100% Paul. Paul performed most, if not all the instruments on all 20 tracks.. This was the first album that my husband and I enjoyed as a couple listening to together and was the launch of a McCartney tour. Oct 2005, one fine night in DC, Sir Paul invited our family to first row center to enjoy the show. Never will forget that night or this amazing album. Thank you!

Coincidentally I was playing the album in the car today, totally unaware of its 10th anniversary. Thanks for the reminder. Its a great album, full of top drawer material like How Kind of You, Riding To Vanity Fair & This Never Happened Before. What a pity though he had to follow it up with the half-baked 'Memory Almost Full' album.

I live in the New Orleans metro...C&C was released 11 days after Hurricane Katrina. I was determined to get my copy, but NO stores selling music were open, or certainly had received no new releases. My sister and I went on a road trip to Baton Rouge that day and we got our CD's!! So worth it ( on a couple of levels).

Even to this day, I am still working out my true feelings for this album. It is very good. Charmed the critics, for sure..... I'm a little narrow-minded at times, but on first listening, I was still waiting for a couple of rockers, maybe another 'different' song for variation.... this certainly is not my 'go to' album, but I acknowledge it. The 'old fart' in me, however, still thinks it could've been better with some variation, and yes, a couple of rockers. A song or two tried too hard. As it is, the album evokes the color 'grey', can leave me a little flat... but, a very fine album. But, for me, not a masterpiece. Maybe it might've been if it was released at an earlier time.

This album, like many of Paul's solo albums polarises fans. To me, too much down slow introspection: not enough "up." And a rotten dry mix which leaves Paul's failing voice way too up front and exposed. Jenny Wren is the album's stand out for mine, though.

In my opinion it is Paul's masterpiece. I listen to it more than any other album and I'm a first generation Beatles fan. It doesn't appeal to the head nodders but it's 13 gorgeous songs from the man who breaths melody. I love it.

This forum is all about opinions. Glad it's a masterpiece for you.

Like all his albums, this is a classic.

My thoughts exactly. I didn't care for it when it came out, and despite repeated listening, I just can't bring myself to enjoy it. I much preferred Memory Almost Full. One of my favorite Macca albums.

I would say Memory Almost Full is way better than Chaos and Creation, but the latter is still a wonderful album.

I remember getting Fine Line on a CD Single import at Virgin Music in San Francisco the day before the concert in San Jose. Shortly after that the Virgin store went out of business.

I seem to remember this was still in the day when opening singles might have meant something, and I must say I was a little underwhelmed with Fine Line. Maybe they deemed it 'commercial', I don't know, but it's decent enough as a song, like number six on the album. But nothing great to my ears. Self-Indulgent (rather) film clip.

I think MAF is mostly very good, though like most Paul albums including Chaos their's weak spots. Apart from See Your Sunshine, Gratitude, Nod Your Head and Dance Tonight the rest is really good! As for Chaos's weak moments they are How Kind Of You, English Tea, Fine Line and Follow Me, so i'd say they're equally very good albums, but not great albums!

This CD is OK to me. Not a "masterpiece" IMO. I enjoyed MAF much more.

It is in my top 3 McCartney albums. I loved how it was a "darker" record than most McCartney albums and that he played so many instruments.

In 2005-2007 I loved C&C and I thought it was a 'darker' record as well. Time has faded on that album for me. I think MAF has some of his darkest moments and I resonate more with that album than I first though when it came out. I played C&C on the ride into work yesterday - I have lot of great memories surrounding that album & tour but the songs personally are not there for me. NEW, Electric Arguments, and MAF are in my top 3 as late period albums from him.
