Set List critique

My Salamander:
I wonder if they'll do raindrops sound loop and bass riff intro when he plays No More Lonely Nights tomorrow night? I just hope he doesn't mess up the lyrics on Spies Like Us or Press. So long as he plays Long And Winding Road and Let Me Roll It, I'll be happy. Opener will be MMT or Drive My Car.
Now THIS was a great post

Thanks for the comments And don't get me started on how we'll never ever again see the Rickenbacker bass. The Rick is kinda like Luke's lightsaber - Paul hasn't been seen with it the past 30 years. Perhaps he lost it in the Cloud City. Maybe it needs to be presented to him on a mountain top by a girl dressed like a scavenger. Maybe then he would play it again.

Given that many of the "dream" setlists won't come true, what number of different/new songs will be considered a good amount? Off the top of my head, Out There had NEW Save Us (14/15) New (14/15) Queenie Eye (14/15) Everybody Out There (14), Temporary Secretary (15) Another Girl (15) Hope for the Future (15) Eight Days a Week (13-15), Your Mother Should Know (13), Mr Kite (13-15), Lovely Rita (13-15) DUSTED OFF Hi, Hi, Hi (13-15), Cant Buy Me Love (15), Another Day (13-15), We Can Work it Out (13/15), Listen to What the Man Said (13-15), So, what is everyone thinking? 5 Brand New, 5 Dusted Off?
-
I hope he doesn't take away many solo or Wings songs...except for Hope for the Future.
-
I suspect almost all of those "new" songs from the Out There tour will be gone...maybe a few will stick like "Hi, Hi, Hi" or "Can't Buy Me Love". But I'm suspecting about a dozen more "new" songs...meaning, they haven't been played since the previous tour (2011/2012 On The Run)...are those parameters a bit generous? Yes...but realistic? Yes.

Great post. I'd consider One After 909 "dusted off", too. Maybe Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight, too. And All Together Now was new, too. I saw Out There shows in 2013 & 2014 and yet, by the time it finished, it had four songs I've never seen: 909, Another Girl, Hope For The Future & Temporary Secretary. I'm hoping I get to add 8-10 I've never heard before on Sunday night. I could see a couple big 70s singles never done (With A Little Luck, Uncle Albert), maybe a "New" song previously not done (both Appreciate & Early Days are on the upcoming comp). Maybe No More Lonely Nights? I'd expect Rocky Raccoon in South Dakota, at a minimum. But it seems like a good song for "old paul" vocals - maybe it squeaks in. Plus an early, iconic Beatle tune (I Feel Fine, She Loves You?). And then some "dusted off" ones from previous tours - Penny Lane hasn't been done in awhile, has it?
-
I would also like it if Penny Lane was included on this tour, should be a mainstay. Although they work well live hoping he doesnt bring back Drive My Car or Dance Tonight! And please time to get rid of Paperback Writer and Helter Skelter. Not long to find out.
-
Agreed. The sole Beatles song I'd like to hear Paul do that I haven't yet heard, is Penny Lane. Why doesn't this get played more? I know he's notorious for flubbing its lyrics...

Absolutely right! And there are following songs which could also need a break: winding road, let me roll it, eleanor rigby, blackbird and the tributes, back in the ussr, maybe obla di but it works too fine live... IMO setlist could be more thrilling by swapping some songs more like band on the run with Jet or 1985 with house of wax... a propos i think besides penny lane, sgt peppers lonely hearts club band could come back too.

What would suck is if he opens with Eight Days A Week, followed by Save Us, followed by Let Me Roll It. That would really suck.

if that did happen, I would wind up setlist watch very early!! As he's playing similar markets Paul has to offer something a bit different. I remember how everyone was on a high with those new additions back in 2013.

Since I'll be seeing the show Sunday, I only need to avoid my regular music site (and this one) for a few days - it ought to be doable. However, if Paul were to REALLY dust off something like She Loves You or I Want To Hold Your Hand for this tour, people better be prepared to avoid ALL news sites - something like that would likely generate articles on Reuters, bits on the National news shows, etc. Just thought I'd mention that!
-
If he opens with "Eight Days a Week" I may have to just log-off.

That is baffling to me. Penny Lane is far more of a "legendary" song than something like "Lady Madonna" or "Get Back" or "Drive My Car" or plenty of other cuts that he's done far more frequently. I got lucky and saw it on both the '93 and '05 tours, but I'd happily see it take the place of many others...

"One On One" tour (first night - Frenso, April 2016) setlist review: TL;DR: really disappointing setlist *new *A Hard Day's Night - why the f*** does he opens his tour with John Lennon song, he has barely one line there Save Us - OK, but "Jet" is a better option Can't Buy Me Love - Nice Letting Go - KEEP, it should replace "Let Me Roll It" Temporary Secretary - love that's one, keep Let Me Roll It / Foxy Lady - he should play "Letting Go"/ "Goodnight Tonight" instead (he can switch between them) I've Got a Feeling - Nah, ok My Valentine - Nice song be it's time to change Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five - KEEP *Here There and Everywhere (piano version) - really nice idea to play it on the piano, keep and switch it with LAWR from time to time Maybe I'm Amazed - GREAT song, but his voice can't handle it anymore We Can Work It Out - ok *In Spite Of All The Danger - nice addition, espically with the story behind this. *You Won't See Me (acoustic) - nice, he can keep it for a while *Love Me Do - nice, but it's still John in must of the parts And I Love Her - really nice to hear, keep Blackbird - it was played too much, boring Here Today - he should play a different tribute, maybe "Strawberry Fields Forever/Help/Give Peace A Chance" Queenie Eye - replace it with a new solo song, maybe "My Brave Face" New - replace it with a new solo song, maybe "Pipes Of Peace" *The Fool on the Hill - Nice, he can switch it with "Your Mother Should Know" from time to time Lady Madonna - good and short little song, keep FourFiveSeconds - Oh no Eleanor Rigby - he can let it go Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite - another John Lennon's song, he should play more Wings songs - maybe "Beware My Love" AND "Silly Love Songs", or if he wants Beatles song - "Getting Better" Something - really nice trubute, but he can refresh it with "Taxman" Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da - boring, if he wants a bouncy song he can try - "Spin It On" or "Balroom Dancing" Band on the Run - this is a great song and I always happy to hear it live altough it was played on every show for the last 10000 years Back in the USSR - nice as well but he can refresh it, "Why Don't We Do It in the Road" can be awesome Let it Be - a must for the ones who hears it for the first time Live and Let Die - a must Hey Jude - a must for the ones who hears it for the first time + a really fun song Yesterday - a must for the ones who hears it for the first time Hi Hi Hi - really nice but if he will replace it with "Girls School" it would be AMAZING Birthday - Boring, bring back "I Saw Her Standing There" Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weigh/The End- Great ending Buttom line: a disappointing setlist for this first "One On One" tour show, most of the new songs are John's and things he played earlier and brought them back, not even one post-Beatles addition to the set, the rest is just the "Out There" tour with a new name and with one encore only, I hope he'll add more songs in the future.

Here is it. The Setlist for a so called "new tour": A Hard Day's Night (really new) Save Us Can't Buy Me Love Letting Go (last performed during Up and Coming Tour) Temporary Secretary (nearly new) Let Me Roll It / Foxy Lady I've Got a Feeling My Valentine Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five Here There and Everywhere (last performed during Back in the World 2003 + Tel Aviv 200 Maybe I'm Amazed We Can Work It Out In Spite Of All The Danger (last performed during US Tour 2005) You Won't See Me (last performed during Summer 04) Love Me Do (really new) And I Love Her Blackbird Here Today Queenie Eye New The Fool on the Hill (last performed during Back in the World 2003) Lady Madonna FourFiveSeconds (really new) Eleanor Rigby Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite Something Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da Band on the Run Back in the USSR Let It Be Live And Let Die Hey Jude Yesterday Hi Hi Hi Birthday Golden Slumbers - Carry That Weight - The End I've to digest this disappointment...
-
Glad about Here There & Everywhere along with one or two Beatles song. Disappointed at the lack of Wings/Solo songs though. I watched some of it on periscope & while I like Four Five Seconds it went down really badly with the audience
-
I like: I like to replace: Can't Buy Me Love Temporary Secretary My Valentine We Can Work It Out In Spite Of All The Danger (there are lots of better Beatles songs) Blackbird Here Today New The Fool on the Hill Lady Madonna FourFiveSeconds Eleanor Rigby Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite Something Back in the USSR I miss Helter Skelter

But why's I've Got a Feeling back? It has been in a lot of his concerts from 2005-2012 if not all of those shows. So a lot of the loyal fans will have seen it while someone who's seeing him for the first time can make do without that song coming back

u've right I've no idea excepted he has forgotten hundreds great tunes from the last 40 years . In this relation there is another big fact I can't understand. He announced his Pure McCartney Set... For me there isn't any real link from the current setlist to this album (apart from this songs 4-5 like Let me roll it which were always performed).
