Summer of 59
Love this, not bad for a "B" side - lol.
THAT is pure McCartney!
That was a Bside to Jenny Wren.

As an avid Paul McCartney Fan (the full career) I love this post. Here are just a few more that haven't been given so far: Wanderlust Tug of War (the song) Somedays Young Boy What It is Turned Out (from New album) Early Days Ever Present Past House of Wax Feet in the Clouds When the Night (great one from Red Rose Speedway) Single Pigeon And an obscure one, new released On the Wings of a Nightingale (written for the Everly Brothers) These are just from the top of my head
"And an obscure one, new released On the Wings of a Nightingale (written for the Everly Brothers) " Love that song !! Did you ever see the youtube of McCartney doing demo of that song?
__________________________________________________ Yankeefan, I've only seen audio's of the demo's. Is there an actual video where Paul is playing it live. Love everything about the song and to me it is very commercial...something that you start singing after just a couple of listens. "Land and sea...I'll be thinking about you and me...Couldn't ask for a better place to be." It just blows my mind that Paul didn't record "On the Wings of a Nightingale" properly and put it on Press to Play or even Flowers in the Dirt. It is far better to me than most of the songs on "Press" (So is Yvonne for that matter) And why didn't perform "Nightingale" when he was down in Nashville a couple of years ago as a tribute to the Everly Brothers. That is what I mean about Paul's tours not having enough creativity and balance. This is an easy song for the band to play and it would show yet another great McCartney Solo song. I would think that Paul has enough songs that are unreleased (where he just has demo's) to put out an entire album or finally an official Cold Cuts compilation Get Giles Martin as a producer for example and record them properly. Here's a few songs like this just off the top of my head: On the Wings of a Nightingale Yvonne's the One Waterspout Goodbye Did We Meet Somewhere Before Same Time Next Year Mama's Little Girl In this Compilation they could also add other rarities like B-sides to singles. Examples might be: This Loving Game Summer of 59 She is So Beautiful Same Love Love Come Tumbling Down The Mess Anyway, we have seen posts similar to this so I don't mean to duplicate. This current post of "the Setlist that never was" just made me think of all these unknown songs.

Unfortunately the youtube clip of the demo is only the audio you mentioned. I agree totally, can't believe he never recorded a official version of this song or played it in his acoustic set. BTW - the Spongetones do a good version of this song. See link below.
Wouldn't it have been a good idea to have some of those songs on "Pure McCartney" - lol
