New McCartney song on film soundtrack

We all stand together Great Lyrics Great tune Great arrangement Great video What's not to like. Yet people slag Paul off for as if it was the only thing he'd done. Yet I don't here them slang off the Beatles for doing yellow submarine. Yes it's a children's song and there seems to be an attitude of he should not do it because he is a rocker. But that is missing the point, Paul is not just a rocker. The best thing about Paul is his versatility, you don't know what he is going to do next. Look at some of his recent output. Kisses on the bottom album, oceans kingdom, electronic arguments and cut me some slack. It's hard to belive that one person can be responsible for such diverse projects.
Nice post. Sure, silly voices, but to attack the song is so petty. What a beautiful melody.

For the love of God, let's hope it's better than the Frog song. That song nearly destroyed Paul's legacy.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with We All stand Together.
Me three!
Same here, it's one of the least harmful songs I've ever heard. Don't know why people have decided that that song is the pinnacle of Paul's post Beatle career
They don't think it's the pinnacle, just the opposite, they think it is the nadir of his post Beatle career! (Along with Mary Had A Little Lamb!)
1983-1986 was definitely the nadir of Macca's career. Pipes of Peace, Broadstreet, & Press to Play rank among the bottom of Paul's albums for me. We All Stand Together & Spies Like Us usually rank near the bottom of his singles. Most of his other stuff was mediocre or below par for him. The single No More Lonely Nights is one of the few songs I listen to from this period. Fortunately, Paul made a strong comeback starting with Flowers.

My 9yr old god daughter and her 6 year old sister run around singing Yellow Sub, Octopuses Garden, Maxwells Silver Hammer and they love Queenie Eye

____________________________________________________________ Joey, you bring up a very interesting subject about the up's and down's (or as you call it nadir) of Paul's career. Any artist that has had such a long career as Macca is going to have peaks and valleys. Just look at Elvis Presley, the Bee Gees, Elton John, U2, Billy Joel, etc etc. If they are around long enough and they were very good in the first place they are bound to have come backs. Paul had even the more daunting task compared to others of following the Beatles where they never were "out" unless you count John's unintentional "we're bigger than Jesus" comment. That was even very short lived so the Beatles were almost always on "top" in their short career. I look at late period Wings as a good example. Once Paul got into his Post Beatles groove, he reached a major peak after BOTR, V&M, and Speed of Sound culminated with the fantastic Wings Over America tour. Paul was back at #1 in the World at that point which was an unbelievable accomplishment. But what goes up, must come down. New artists, new styles came in vogue and people quickly got tired of Paul. His late period Wings material got heavily criticized and McCartney 2 got even more crucified. But again, what goes down with an artist as talented as Paul will rise again. Tug of War became a big comeback. The problem that Paul had at that point was that his huge "duets" got "too" big and way overplayed. Paul was quickly seen by many as a "sellout" and his music especially with Pipes of Peace was way "too Pop". In hindsight, it was not a surprise in any way that Broadstreet was a complete commercial flop...one of the biggest in Paul's career. But again, an artist with so much talent as Paul will always be able to come back as he has proven time and time again. When any really good (almost genius level) artist plateaus, it takes a while for the comeback to emerge. It doesn't happen in a year or too. It normally takes several years. It is all about "timing" in the music business and even Paul had to endure his "down" years. Look at the Bee Gees who had hit the top in England, Australia and even America in the 60's. They had to wait till the late 70's to hit it big again with Saturday Night Fever and the disco era. Speaking of the 70's and 80's, 2 Paul albums that really got shortchanged in my opinion were Back to the Egg and Press to Play. Both albums had the same problem...they were released when Paul was still in his down period. Not enough time had gone by for either of these albums to really have a chance. Press to Play even got a pretty good review by Rollingstone but still not enough time had gone by for PTP to resurrect Paul's career. I really think that in retrospect Back to the Egg and Press to Play are 2 of Paul's most underrated albums. Paul wasn't playing it safe on either one of them. He seemed to be having fun in the studio and wasn't necessarily trying to have a big hits. Both albums weren't filled with middle of the road, Pop heavy songs. Consequently, you have albums that were filled with a whole variety of music styles. I really like both of them and I think years from now new generations of people will appreciate them more.

A little underwhelmed I was at the time of release by We All Stand Together.... but then the years took toll, and I realised not every new Paul offering had to be the Son of Hey Jude. Looking at it now, it is a sweet whimsical melody, evoking good childhood times. I like it. Nothing about it should be seen as a low point. He dared to be different in many ways at that time by putting out something like that.... a children's song... which of course is a path many an artist since has followed. I look forward to hearing the new song. And, yes, I also liked Mary Had a Little Lamb.

Although I'm pleased that the 'song' is getting a physical release on the soundtrack cd, it looks like it won't be appearing as a physical cd single !!

Absolutely a great song...they should build on that theme, from an early age, with young children. Add to that, Love Song to the Earth... Love is All You Need and Give Peace a Chance...start children thinking about how we are all one sharing this Earth, together!!
I've never thought of All You Need is Love as a children's song, but you're right. It should be.

That song really influence me as a child!!! I got the Beatles message loud and clear!!!

I pretty much like any new song Paul writes. Some songs are better than others yes but that is normal for any musician who writes music. Look at George Harrison for example. There was one song that he did not like that he wrote and did not think it was good because it was one of his first songs he wrote. But he got better over the years. But Paul has so much talent. And the same goes for him that as he continues writing more songs "They are getting better all the time" as the Beatles would say lol. All his songwritings are great and I can certainly relate to his lyrics which is why I appreciate him so much. I look foward to the new song too.

I would love a 7" single of this song, maybe Record Store Day he tends to get involved with that

"A new Paul McCartney song "In the Blink of An Eye," part of the forthcoming Ethel & Ernest movie, made its first appearance early Friday morning. The track appears across iTunes' international stores (but not in the U.S. at time of reporting) in the advance pre-order listing for the soundtrack album. Ethel & Ernest, an animated film, is taken from the graphic novel by Raymond Briggs (The Snowman) about the lives of two Londoners. The characters were based on his parents. The film stars the voices of Jim Broadbent and Brenda Blethyn in the title roles and Harry Collett and Luke Treadaway as the author in his younger and later days. From a 60-second preview, the sound of "In the Blink of An Eye" is reminiscent of "(I Want To) Come Home," the song McCartney wrote for Everybody's Fine, the 2009 film starring Robert DeNiro. That song was nominated for several awards -- a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Song by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the DFCS Award for Best Original Song by the Denver Film Critics Society and the World Soundtrack Award for Best Original Song for a Film, according to IMDB.com - but didn't win any of them. For now, the full album can only be ordered from iTunes in the U.K. and via the music store's international channels (including Australia) and at Amazon.co.uk. The album's advance track listings features a number of songs by Carl Davis, who collaborated with McCartney on "Liverpool Oratorio."
-
just heard the preview of the song. Paul's voice is a bit frail and it's somewhat similar to Hope for the Future IMO.
-
the album is on Spotify now, but without "In the Blink of an Eye". The Carl Davis version of "Walking in the Park with Eloise" is quite cool!
-
Not as memorable as 'Hope For The Future'. Very basic vocal with no double tracking or effects. A bit dull. That's my review of the clip I've heard on iTunes

I completely agree with you.

Wish this was available in the US to even listen to a sample of it.
