New McCartney song on film soundtrack
-
I know the voice is shot.... and we all know that.... but that voice just ruins the song for me. It saddens me... but I just cannot enjoy a new Paul offering with that "older" voice. I just cannot warm to it. I have tried.... but I cannot. It might have worked with Early Days, cos it kinda worked with that song.... but listening to that vocal on this new song, for me, detracted from the melody. I hate that version of his voice. I just cannot warm to it.... I try, but I just cannot.

In his prime, Paul used his voice as another instrument and it invoked so much emotion and energy in the song. Especially with his power ballads. Sadly the opposite is true now. His voice makes the song appear unintentionally weary, depressing, and dull.
Yes, "No More Lonely Nights" comes to mind....among numerous others.

I think I'm packing in this forum and sticking to Steve hoffmann's. i just enjoy talking about Paul and his music so much more over there. Ta ta.

Ta... but they bash his vocals, when needed, over there too.

I am always a firm supporter of whatever Paul does and will always defend him. However, I must make an exception here, regretfully. His vocals on this song are pitiful. Incredibly sad to feel almost embarrassed for him and admit that maybe the time has come for Paul to enjoy the memories of his past and enjoy the future pursuing other endeavors other than singing.

See ya.

If this is going to be Paul's only original song/recording for 2016 then I'm disappointed.

Very pretty. I like it. Here's a YouTube upload for you.
thank you for the upload. I like the song, the music is lovely. His vocals are not what they used to be (and obviously could be better) but I don't mind his vocals on the song.

A nice production and arrangement but overall the song is not very memorable and as repeatedly mentioned, McCartney's voice is quite unpolished.
-
wow- I love it! SO much better than Hope for the Future. Reminds me of something from Flaming Pie- maybe Beautiful Night? I don't think his voice is any different on this than it was on I Want to Come Home, one of his best ballads ever.
-
Song reminded me of 'The End of the End' on first listen. Paul might have even nicked a phrase or two from that song. TEOTE is a much better song though.

I loved this song the first time I heard it... Soooooo Beautiful I can really see the fit to the movie...can't wait for that and a video! It did make me tear up a bit...thought he might have been thinking of Nancy when he wrote it, because it's so lovely... Can't wait to hear the album. Come on guys, can you go easy on the voice...it happens when you get older. Let me ask, when your grandparents or parents get older, do you complain to them about their voice!? No you don't... I've loved Paul's music and his voice since I was 11 years old and I still love his music and his voice... It's Paul after all... It's so beautiful, love the orchestration just everything. It's perfect!!!

That was my thought too! Whenever I hear the word "cloudburst" I think of All Things Must Pass, wonder if he was channeling George a little here. Regarding his voice, man some of you are brutal. He's 74. He's old. Give the man a break.

Well, that vocal wan't top notch. But he did manage to "sing" most of it. This time? No. I feel so embarrassed for him. Surely he would/should know how he sounds and that it's time to pack it in or rest his voice for an extended spell. If he is in denial, then it's up to his wife or kids to spell it out in no uncertain terms. His band likely won't. They probably enjoy the work and really wouldn't dare tell him just how bad he sounds. If he were Dylan, he could get away with it. Dylan seems to thrive on his croaking now, because he never sang that well to begin with. Paul was angelic. He had it all. So now, it's just too not him and too dreadful to hear. It's painful to say that. ops:

If they made a record and the vocal wasn't good, yes, I would remark to them about it. I'm not bashing the fact that Paul's speaking voice has changed, it happens as we get older, but when it affects his singing ability like it has, then maybe it's time to realize it and he can do other things musically since he is still so talented.

The orchestral overdub was recorded on the 11th July this year at Angel studios in London. Does anyone have any information on when and where Paul recorded his part of the song?
-
of course his voice changed, but i and many other fans still like it and it genuinely makes me so happy to hear paul's new music. i wouldn't appreciate the song that much without his vocals, it wouldn't work for me. i still find his voice unique, charming, emotional and very fitting for songs like these. still a joy to listen to. hope he won't listen to y'all

He sounded pretty weak on I Want to Come Home, though I'd say it's gone down another notch. And I Want to Come Home doesn't even make the top 50% of Paul's slow songs. It's generic Macca, which seems to happen a lot in these one-offs for movies and shows. This one is pretty generic, too, but the melody is more memorable.

Interesting Kestrel, where did you have the info? So it seems impossible that Paul was in the studio, since on July 10th and July 12th he held two concerts in the US. About Paul's part, it seems to have been recorded at Hog Hill Mill. I should say early July, 'cause Paul was free from live perfomances between June 28th and July 9th.

It came from a tweet from Chris Egan (scroll down to the appropriate date). https://twitter.com/chriseganmusic It seems that the main orchestrations were done in May so as this seems to be a separate session specifically for Paul's song, it probably means that Paul's contribution hadn't been recorded at the time. I think more time would have been required to book the orchestra and for Carl Davis to write his arrangements so I think possibly Paul's recordings took place sometime in June.
