pretty cool...sent me one ..I 'll pay shipping and anyone having trouble with the 45 from Best Buy ?? the site has nothing on McCartney ???
Bob, as a lurker on the SH forum - I think that post revealed yourself ð???
What's the SH forum?
The Steve Hoffman forum. If you've never been there, it's an eye-opener. The McCartney fans there sometimes have a lot of good info and banter, but they can also be shockingly petty and mean and childish. If you think you've seen that here, just you wait, haha!
Awful place. Craven fanboys mostly. I can see why the rest of the Hoffman forum hates the McCartney threads so much.

Indeed, thought so. I don't know what original pressing you are talking about, but I have the 1989 vinyl and CD and he is not mentioned on either of them.
-
I'm either hallucinating OR getting confused with "Off The Ground"...but I know I could have sworn Wix played on everything in that late 80's/early 90's period. I'm shocked!
-
Yes, me too! He appears in the 1989/1990 "Put it There" documentary rehearsing with the band, but not credited on the album at all! Weird.

Wix's first studio session was for overdubs for the single version of Figure of Eight. I believe that was his only involvement with the 'FITD' sessions even though his contribution wasn't used for the actual album.

Aha, cool, good to know! Thanks!

I have the McCartney "Recording Sessions" book, and the first time it mentions Wix on any track is April 1989 for the track "Party Party," although he would be on that single version of "Figure Of Eight" as well as the alternate version of "Rough Ride" from the "Put It There" special. He then appears on the soundcheck tunes "Together" and "Inner City Madness" from the 1989-90 tour that appear on Tripping The Live Fantastic. And then of course Unplugged in early '91. The first full-blown studio album track he participates in is "Biker Like An Icon," recorded at the end of 1991. Very strange things about keyboard credits in this era. As I noted earlier, the band demos of the Paul/Elvis collaborations clearly have keyboards, but no musician credit is listed for them (maybe it's Paul?). The "Recording Sessions" book says that the keyboardist David Clayton of Simply Red spent a few days recording with Paul, and Club Sandwich mentioned him playing on "Motor Of Love" at the time, but in the end, his name appears nowhere in the credits of any track (there is supposedly an earlier, unreleased version of "Motor Of Love," so he must be on that one, I guess).

Hi, I'm Luca the author of the "Paul McCartney Recording Sessions" book that you mention. Right, to my knowledge, Wix was not involved on Flowers and Robbie joined in only later in the game for overdubbing. The Figure of Eight remake is from September 1989. The keyboards on the 1988 band demos are strangely not credited, it could be Paul himself, and possibly Nicky Hopkins on That Day Is Done.

Thanks, Luca. And it's a fantastic book! I just read the rest of the booklet in the Archive set, and a couple of times it's mentioned that the band demos for the Paul/Elvis songs involved Mitchell Froom, but he's not mentioned in the credits for those tracks, although he is mentioned as playing keyboards on the finished album tracks for those songs (the four that were used). So maybe he played keyboards on the band demos too?? It's also mentioned that the band demos were recorded basically live in the studio.
-
Why so expensive? And why are the b sides only downloads not on a disc ?! This just doesn't make sense ! A physical release that's not fully physical - and for the retail price should be !
-
Bought and enjoyed your book too Luca !
-
Has anyone notice in the WAV downloads that ONE song is missing from the listings on the Deluxe Box Set? You get one extra song. 02_10_The Lovers That Never Were (Geoff Emerick Mix)_24Bit_96kHz.wav

Thanks for enjoying the book!! Mitchell Froom was called in later in the game, during autumn for the sessions were they basically re-recorded the McCartney-Costello tracks. They only kept some instruments and/or vocals from the original sessions (e.g. Elvis's keyboards on the intro of YOU WANT HER TOO, Paul's vocals for the same song) and they re-taped the rest live in the studio with Paul, Hamish, Whitten and Froom himself on keyboards. Not sure about McIntosh playing at the same time with them or only recording overdubs.

Yes, this interview definitely supports your view that Mitchell Froom came in later: http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/interview/in-their-own-words-the-producers-discuss-mccartneys-flowers-in-the-dirt/ Fascinating interview edited from talks with several of the producers who worked on the album: Trevor Horn, Mitchell Froom, Chris Hughes, Stephen Lipson. They really open up about the joys and frustrations of working with Paul. The story of "Figure Of Eight" is priceless, how Trevor Horn had to convince Paul not to do it like "Great Balls Of Fire" (do-do-do-do, you got me runnin' in a figure of eight, do-do-do-do"). And Froom claims that the drummer on "Don't Be Careless Love" is actually Jerry Marotta.

What will be the next album or albums to be remastered and release in a deluxe box set? And then later, nominated for a Grammy. What's Left...So Far Wild Life (1971) (Wings) Red Rose Speedway (1973) (Paul McCartney & Wings) Venus and Mars (1975) (Wings) Wings at the Speed of Sound (1976) (Wings) London Town (197 (Wings) Back to the Egg (1979) (Wings) Tug of War (1982) Pipes of Peace (1983) Give My Regards to Broad Street (1984) Press to Play (1986) Choba B CCCP (198 Flowers in the Dirt (1989) Tripping the Live Fantastic (1990) (Lumpy Trousers - that one was my favorite) Unplugged (The Official Bootleg) (1991) Off the Ground (1993) Paul Is Live (1993) Flaming Pie (1997) Run Devil Run (1999) Driving Rain (2001) Back in the U.S. (2002) Back in the World (2003) Chaos and Creation in the Backyard (2005) Memory Almost Full (2007) Good Evening New York City (2009) Kisses on the Bottom (2012) New (2013)

This is actually what's left. Not sure what to think, since they're not teasing any upcoming releases in the new package. "Flaming Pie" seems like a natural next entry, although seven tracks from that were on "Pure McCartney" last year, and they were all newly remastered. It could be that they just start from scratch and rethink the whole campaign over again.

"Off The Ground?" Maybe. Last year on "Pure McCartney" only ONE song was on there from "Off The Ground." When Pure McCartney came out last year I did find it odd that there was not a single song from "Flowers In The Dirt" on it, but it makes sense now since he was going to be reissuing "Flowers In The Dirt" in 2017. So I think "Off The Ground" could be next since he missed a lot of song that could have been on "Pure McCartney."

______________________________________ As Favoritething says...Who knows? I would think that if Paul and Capitol wants to do a big thing (like they just did with Flowers) the one that makes real sense to me is a combination of London Town and Back to the Egg. Tons of stuff to put in the Setincluding the live shows after Back to the Egg, all the B-sides and unreleased etc.

I find it unlikely that post 2000 albums will be reissued any time soon. Most likely a combo of Wild Life/RRS or London Town/Back to the Egg; at least that will get Wings out of the way. Then Flaming Pie. That is, if the series continues at all as it's been so badly thought through that I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's over already. Whatever the archive series was meant to achieve it hasn't succeeded on any level. And at this rate it will take 15 years just to put Paul's albums back on the shelves in a reissue campaign that lasts as long as the Beatles and Wings combined, almost.
