McCartney promising a "refreshed" version of 2016'

All valid points, and thank you for pulling in billboard for official proof. The problem with literally every song mentioned on this page...either Wings or from FITD...is that he doesn't have the voice anymore...well, maybe for "Put it There". But "Silly Love Songs" would be mortifying in 2017 and he would just mumble through "My Brave Face"..."That Day is Done" would be a grand catastrophe of both issues.
This is why BJ and myself wished that he would have done these songs back in 2002 when he still had the voice, sadly a missed opportunity IMO.

As do I! We'll never know...

It wasn't me who suggested Silly Love Songs as a replacement for MIA! I don't think anyone did.

I'll be the first one to do so, then

_________________________________________________ Wix, Your short post really brings up many questions regarding his voice and sadly relates directly to many of the setlist questions as well. This leg of the tour will certainly answer some of these questions. While Paul is going to some secondary markets, he will also be hitting big markets. There will be a lot of press around. If his voice is really a problem, it will be widely known quickly in this age of social media. There is no doubt that Paul's voice has declined pretty significantly over the last couple of years and in some ways it is up to Paul and his team to try to mask his weaker voice as much as possible. That is why Wix's last sentence above is concerning to me. And the songs he selects to do are a big factor. As much as I (and others) would really like Paul to do more of the very good Solo songs he has ignored, I don't want to see an embarrassing catastrophe occur either. I agree that I don't think Paul could do a great song like "That Day is Done" in 2017. Another question that will be increasingly important is just how good Paul's band is vocally. I have not personally been to a Paul concert since like 2011. Back then Paul's voice was still pretty good so you didn't notice his Band's vocals as much. Now I think it is far more critical. In looking at the Tokyo videos (and they seemed high quality), I thought the Band did a pretty good job on "A Hard Day's Night". They really helped Paul's weaker voice considerably. The performance seemed very credible to my ears. In this case, the band and Paul were singing collectively throughout. Compare that to MIA where Paul has a lot of solo parts. Vocally, I would be interested in what other's think who have been to Paul's recent concerts. I am also interested in how good the individual Band members do sing. Just my gut feel, but maybe Silly Love Songs could be done fairly well (albeit a shortened version as I mentioned earlier) as long as the Band and Paul sang collectively. Same thing for My Brave Face. And I think Paul (with the Band joining him) could do a good job on "Put It There" since it is less difficult. That is the main reason I thought that "Love Me Do" was a great addition to the setlist in 2016. It isn't because I think it is one of Paul's great songs but because it is the type of song that the crowd can just take over and really help Paul with the vocal. The crowd loves it! That is one reason I am hoping that Paul does "When I'm 64" this Summer and Fall. Everybody know it, it is a fun song and the crowd will all be singing along. At this point in his career, Paul really needs a few of these "crowd pleasers" in his setlist. Ob La Di is another one. They "save" his voice. I remember years ago going to a Rod Stewart concert. This was in the 90's when Rod was still pretty young. I remember telling a friend how Mr. Stewart really had an relatively easy show. I specifically told my friend kiddingly...Rod just sang the first line of the song and the crowd sang the rest. Unfortunately, Paul needs quite a bit of songs like that in his concerts these days. I still remember liking the Rod Stewart show a lot. It wasn't because he was working so hard but because he performed so many songs I loved. Rod just reeled them off (with little chatter between songs) and the crowd sang along. I had seen Paul for both the Flowers in the Dirt and Off the Ground tours. Believe me, Rod didn't work nearly as hard as Paul did. But at 75, Paul really needs to make it easier on himself.

I honestly don't think Paul takes the voice into consideration for three reasons: 1. He refuses to hydrate, to the point that he seems to consider it a crutch if you do hydrate. That is just a bunch of bologna. 2. He has kept "Maybe I'm Amazed" in the set for six years now. 3. He saves the hardest songs to sing until the end. From "Back in The USSR" onward, it is loud screechy rockers, with his three BIGGEST ballads casually dropped in there. This is not a sequencing that someone who cares about his voice would arrange. The encores last year were just a notch above a shout-sing approach. On top of this, I don't believe he warms up properly either. Since 2012, he has always taken like the first 3-5 songs of the show to actual warm-up and not be croaky. Okay...this vocal music education major is done his rant...

I don't know why but for some reason I could see him bringing back Flaming Pie and introducing it with the Beatles story about the man on the flaming pie or something.

He should do Flaming Pie where Queenie Eye is in the set after Here Today. He could play Flaming Pie on the magical piano as it was originally played in 1997.

Flaming Pie is another song that's often performed during soundcheck, so could easily be added to the set if he wanted to do so.

Why not leave in Queenie Eye & take out an inferior Beatles song. Just trying for a better solo-Wings/Beatles ratio.

I'd rather hear I Can Bet than Queenie Eye. Or of course Appreciate!
-
No more "Flaming pie" please! I prefer another track for this beautiful album, maybe "Somedays" or "The word tonight"!

Yeah me too on the Appreciate but that wasn't an option. I just don't want them to take out any solo songs! Like I said... take out an inferior Beatles song. And Paul seems to like the sing alongs with Queenie Eye.

I'd love to hear The World Tonight. Do you think he could still sing it?

"The World Tonight" would work really well in the second slot. Plus, he could sing most of it, and take the lower harmony in a few spots. "Somedays" is my favorite solo Paul McCartney song. A portion of it was my senior quote in high school. I think he could do it well enough, but it may be a tad wobbly. It would be a good replacement for "And I Love Her".

I LOVE that song but to me...it reminds me of Linda's cancer. I wonder if he could do it.

It would be very heavy for Paul, I can't imagine. If given a piano arrangement, it would replace "Maybe I'm Amazed" perfectly and if he could keep it together, it would be far more fitting if he sets it up as a Linda tribute.

For the verses he will go into his still pretty intact lower register. Listen to the first seconds of take 27 of 'Your Mother Should Know', the 25 year old McCartney sounding like, take, 'Kisses Of The Bottom' for both falsetto and the low spoken voice! Remarkable. Imagine the 'Venus And Mars' 2010 intro vocal. Then, he will be able to force out the higher notes, and the higher screams will be covered by Abe Jr. I imagine it would be possible. And the band would rock. The thing is though, when did he ever dig out a previously unplayed 80's or 90's song... 'Temporary Secretary' was the first addition in that category in 10 years or something?

He has no confidence in himself. He probably thinks that no one knows it. I wish that he would really pull something good out of his multi talented hat. Maybe the club that started playing Temporary Secretary could also start playing a few others! Then Paul would do them.
