______________________________________________ 5th-Beatle As I mentioned a few pages back on this thread, I just go back from a Beatles Festival just outside of Louisville KY. One of the three groups from Brazil at this Festival was a band called Bluebeetles. One of the Paul Solo songs they did was "My Brave Face". Of the hundreds of songs I heard during the entire 5 Day Festival, My Brave Face was one of my favorites. Such a great, great song to hear live. One of the things I never understood about Paul is his reluctance (in this case refusal) to bring a Solo song back into the setlist after originally playing/promoting it as a new song from a new album. For us old enough to remember, he played My Brave Face during the 1989-1990 Flowers in the dirt tour but never played it again. He constantly brings back Beatle songs but he never brings back a great Solo song. My Brave Face and Put It There are perfect "live" songs to bring back at this time. And they are not obscure songs. I doubt he will do either one of them but we will just have to wait and see. If you are going to one of the Brazil shows, I sure hope for you that he does all 3 songs (including Hope of Deliverance).

Thank you. I doubt he will actually do any songs from FITD, but would love to be proven wrong. If the new album gets released by then and he plays 2 or 3 songs from it, I'll be happy. I guess that's a more realistic hope.

He should be able to do both and still satisfy first time people seeing him. Play 2-3 news songs if album is out and 2 from FITD. He can cut the "New" songs from the set list and songs like "Temporary Secretary" and his set list is already refreshed - lol !!

I never understood why he would only play "Hope Of Deliverance" again in certain locations. Is it me or does "My Brave Face" sound very Beatlesque to you?

That would be amazing and beyond my expectations.

Maybe he does it as a test to see the reaction of the crowd and if he likes the outcome, he keeps doing it in that region. I remember reading that he did it once in the USA back in 2013, but I don't remember the reports about how the crowd reacted to it.

He did Hope Of Deliverance at the first Orlando 2013 show. I was there. I was happy to hear it, but overall, it didn't get much of a reaction. By the 2nd show, it was gone. As far as any setlist changes, I'm betting there will be NOTHING from Flowers In The Dirt. But I predict he adds in a full band version of Fixing A Hole and/or Penny Lane (due to Sgt Pepper anniversary reissue), at the expense of other songs. Not sure which. Beyond that, I expect the same old setlist.

He could do them in lower keys, something he has slowly been integrating a bit more.
I only realised during the whole Pepper buzz, not having heard many of these songs in years, that a reason for transposing 'Lovely Rita' live could have been Wix not being able to do the glissando at the end of the piano solo when played in the key it was originally released in.
Absolutely, but not just Wix. It's easier on everybody when a song is definitely in a given westernized musical key.
Haha, of course, but since that whole recording was composed from elements recorded on different speeds, they weren't going for a key where Wix would have had to involve black keys (not the band) during the gliss.

He did "Hope Of Deliverance" for the entire 1993 tour so he should have had an idea how it went over live. In general, most of his solo songs get the same basic reaction with rare exceptions.

___________________________________________________________ My Brave Face is so, so Beatlesque in my opinion. I remember liking My Brave Face when I first bought the CD way back in 1989 but years had passed since I had heard it. Certainly can't count on radio or Paul himself to play it. Once I got the reissue earlier this year, I like it even more than I did in 1989. And hearing it right among the countless number of Beatle songs I heard at the Festival, it certainly holds up against almost all those songs (and in many cases, even better). Something about it I just love. If you look at the 5 or 6 exceptional Solo albums Paul has done since Tug of War ( Tug, Flowers, Pie, Chaos, Maf, New) each album has at least 4-6 songs that are Beatle quality. To choose to totally ignore/abandon all those songs on his tours is mind boggling to me. I think the answer is that Paul (and his people) totally believe that the Lennon/McCartney trademark is where the "money" is and that is where he needs to totally concentrate relative to his "live" shows. The only addition to that is his Wings' trademark where he did have real commercial success. The only exception to the Beatles and Wings Catalog is his tribute song to John (Here Today), My Valentine for Nancy, and a couple others he fits in (Temporary Secretary and the 2 newest Solo songs from the New album since he is so used now to playing them). I count MIA as a Wings song since the single came out from his Wings Over America album. Other than the few songs I mentioned, it is all Beatles and Wings. As you have said, in this process he also has abandoned his Solo fans who have continued to buy all his solo albums. Sad not just to his loyal fans (like the ones here) but for his overall career since 1980.

__________________________________________________ As far as cutting Hope of Deliverance after Orlando, that makes little sense to me. I'm sure the first couple of times he played Temporary Secretary, it got a similar crowd reaction. Temporary Secretary is even more obscure than Hope of Deliverance. I think with TS and 4-5 Seconds he considers both songs "hip" which is the only reason they continue to stay in the Setlist. Relative to any setlist changes starting in Miami, I won't be surprise at all if you are right...just a couple of Beatle Additions and nothing from FITD. As I have said before, if that is the case, it makes my decision about the Tampa show very easy. As much as i love Macca, I will just pass. I'd rather put my money into another Beatles Festival next year. There I will have a much better chance to hear Solo or Wings' songs I have never heard live before.

honestly, I don't care what he plays for the most part. If I see him this summer, I'll see about 10-15 songs (based off of Tokyo) I've never seen live and i'm ok with that, although I wish FITD could be included. - A Hard Day's Night - Can't Buy Me Love - Letting Go - Temporary Secretary - Here, There and Everywhere (if played) - Love Me Do - In Spite of All The Danger - You Won't See Me - The Fool on The Hill - FourFiveSeconds - I Wanna Be Your Man - Sgt Pepper's Reprise - Birthday While I wish there were more (and better selections in general), that's enough to justify seeing him and he's Paul freak-ing McCartney anyways. You Won't See Me and Letting Go alone are worth it!

___________________________________________ Flowers on the Run, Don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm in any way. You're excited and that is all that counts. One thing for sure, Paul will go all out and put on a great show. I have seen Paul many times since the 1989-1990 tour. I have also been a huge Beatles fan since 1964 at the age of 15. This combination has me a little "burned out" on the same songs that Paul continues to play. About half of the songs above I have heard on previous shows. The rest with the exception of Hard Day's Night, You Won't See Me, and Here There & Everywhere (if he does it) just doesn't excite me. But I certainly understand and appreciate others who are really looking forward to seeing him again. And for people who are seeing him for the 1st or maybe 2nd time, it is a dream come true.. That's the way I felt in 1990 (flowers in the dirt tour) and 1993 (Off the Ground tour). Have a great time.

Excellent post BJ. You and I are not knocking fans who have not seen him live as much as we have and want to hear the hits. I have seen McCartney from 1976 to 2010 live so I am like you and want to hear more from his entire career live. My wife knows I am a major fan and she is surprised that I would not want to see him again and I have explained my reasons to her. For me to change my mind, he would really have to "refresh" his current show - lol. It would take something like 2-3 songs from a new album, couple of songs from FITD and maybe 2-3 solo songs I have never heard live. I would not even mind a different Beatle song if it was something like "Rocky Raccoon" - lol. Finally, my other wish is that he would "refresh" some of the stories he tells between songs.

I've visited 13 concerts (2003-2016) and I feel the same!

_______________________________________________________ Yankee fan, you hit it right on the head for long time Macca fans like us. Your definition of "refresh" relative to the setlist is exactly like mine. I've been to all of his tours (except 2016) and there is very little in the 2017 Tokyo shows that will entice me to go to his upcoming US shows. And Tampa is in my backyard! The reason as we have said is that we have attended too many of his shows and want more variety. The only other tour I didn't make was 1976 and that was the one show (NYC or Philadelphia) I missed seeing the most. That was the real "bold" McCartney. While the press was begging for more Beatles' songs at the time, he told them to just go the show and tell him if the audience doesn't have a great time. He was one of the first big name artist's that actually did shows that were close to 3 hours and I think he only did 5 Beatle songs. In 1976 he had the biggest show on the planet. How refreshing that his opening number was Venus & Mars/Rock Show and his closing song was Soily. Talk about obscure...he didn't care. It rocked and the crowd went nuts.
-
There are a few Beatles songs that he has played elsewhere which have not been done live in South America since his return in 2010. Maybe a couple at soundchecks, but not at the actual concerts. I was really happy to hear "Here, There And Everywhere", "You Won't See Me" and "The Fool On The Hill" last year in Argentina, so if he wants to bring back some more in October I'm fine with that. Here are some examples: Penny Lane She's Leaving Home Getting Better Fixing A Hole You Never Give Me Your Money Why Don't We Do It In The Road? I'll Get You I Will For No One She Came In Through The Bathroom Window Good Day Sunshine Please Please Me She's A Woman Mother Nature's Son Michelle I'm Down I'll Follow The Sun

It's an excellent idea, but it seems that at this point he's only bringing back songs from previous tours. I hope he'll do new ones, though!
