, I like BTTE -- not my absolute favorite Wings album, but it's got a wacky charm to it -- but Paul seems to want to pretty much want to forget 1978-79 ever happened.
Shame. I love BTTE, it is one of my favorite albums.
______________________________________________________ I understand what Bruce is saying...just my opinion (and many share it), but I think BOTR and Venus and Mars are better and more cohesive. But to say that those 2 albums (among Paul's best Post Beatle Albums) are better does not make BTTE a bad album by any stretch. I really like many of the songs and variety on "Egg". As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I talked directly to Steve Holley at the "Abbey Road on the River" Festival this past May. Steve's opinion on the main reason of Wings' breaking up was Paul's overwhelming desire to work with George Martin again on a Solo record with "guest" musicians. As we know that project later became Tug of War. Maybe the poor sales and mediocre reviews on BTTE also had something to do with Paul changing directions. Just a shame that Paul never did a full scale US tour following Japan. I think "live performances" of BTTE songs could have given the album a "new" birth.

1979.... a very underrated period.... the voice sublime... just before the crushing blow on innocence.... a very underrated period in Paul's career. Sliding Doors.

I really wish Paul would embrace more of his career. He has so much great stuff that he basically ignores. I think Back to the Egg is a solid album. Even if its not perfect (which not many albums are!), there are some crackers on there and I always enjoy listening to it. And aside from song quality, critical reception etc, his voice in 1979 was sublime!

ALL OF THIS!

I don't think it's mid-tier at all, but in the top 5 easily. So many great rockers. I've never understood why it didn't sell well.

Personally, I think 'London Town' is criminally underrated. Perhaps his most melodic solo album behind only BOTR. BTTE, OTOH, is style over substance & very overrated. Side 1 is indeed 'harder' sounding, but Side 2 drags - 2 unremarkable ballad suites, 1 dance hall song, & 1 spoken -word song. That's 14 minutes (out of 23 minutes)! I still dont get how this is some fans' best Wings album.

'London Town' is a Wings album not a solo album. As was 'Band On The Run' incidentally.
