STATUS QUO SLAM LIVE 8 'EGOS' British rockers STATUS QUO have slammed SIR PAUL McCARTNEY's behaviour at the London Live 8 concert earlier this month (02JUL05) - because they believe he was determined to hog the limelight. The ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD hitmakers played at 1985's Live Aid show and their request to play a song at the historic gig was snubbed by organiser SIR BOB GELDOF Singer FRANCIS ROSSI blames the egocentric actions of other stars for knocking Status Quo off the bill. He says, "They all wanted to cherry pick when they could play. McCartney wasn't even satisfied with opening Live 8 with U2. He had to come back on later once he heard PINK FLOYD were doing it because he didn't want to be upstaged. "So playing with U2 obviously wasn't good enough for him. Add to that the lot of them onstage, including McCartney, at the end and he's been hogging the stage." Rossi goes on to play down the impact of Geldof's initiatives to tackle famine, disease and poverty: "They could hold another Live Aid in 20 years and things will be the same. "I don't know the answers to the problems of the world, but I know that playing a gig such as Live 8 isn't it. There was something off about the whole thing and what Bob Geldof was doing singing onstage if we couldn't play there, I'll never know." 28/07/2005 01:57

Sour Grapes perhaps? As far as I know, Bob G. asked Paul to perform twice. A lot had to ask to play earlier because they had other shows that night. Poor form for them to say stuff like this. It seems they have the big ego. Does anyone actually want to see them? Aren't they someehat of a joke?
-
Well it sounds like he's not sold on the benefits of Live 8 anyway, so why would he care whether he was on the bill or not?
-
He may think that one of Paul`s appereance should have been his.
-
Sorry stuff from rossi, Paul is still riding high after all these years and the sorry quo can no long cut it. Very bad case of sour grapes
-
im never heard of this guy or his band or his song before so i dont care what he says about anything, anywhere.
-
No one is bigger in music than Paul McCartney. He demands respect. Sometimes he himself must demand that respect if others are too blind to see, i.e., if and when he wants to take part in theses things. He will not allow anyone to overshadow the prestigious accomplishments/achievements he has built over the years. Jealously and covetousness of other "artists" have existed, does now, and will for a long time to come. That's just the way it is.

This group just got a couple of minutes of exposure before they disappear again.

I have an old 45 of the Status Quo, "Pictures Of Matchstick Men", that was probably somewhere back in the late sixties. It's like the only song I remember them doing. Anyway, I agree sour grapes.
-
So Status Quo wanted to play Live 8 but when they couldn't they talked trash about the gig and its headliners? Geez... I wonder what this guy was like when he was a kid: "I know I lost, but it's my ball and I'm going home." I hated kids like that .
-
The reason Sir Bob snubbed them was probably because Status Quo showed up drunk at the recording of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in 1985.

Totally.

The ONLY thing that I know that Staus Quo has done is "Pictures of Matchstick Men" and I think that Camper Van Beethoven did it better in 1992! They are just jealous of Paul's continuing success!

Wouldn't be surprised, but don't really care either way.
