That is actually his own fault. If he had been adding more songs from his solo career rather than Beatles songs, people would know them by now. I'd love to see a show where songs from the last 30 years are featured along with a few of his all time standards.

If you could pick and choose the set list for a fantasy macca gig you where about to attend, what 25 songs would you pick? And what venue would you choose?
-
I'd like to hear:
Help!
From Me To You
When I'm Sixty Four
Take It Away
Young Boy
Uncle Albert
Anyway
Rinse The Raindrops
Big Barn Bed
Backseat Of My Car
Your Mother Should Know
She's Leaving Home
Letting Go w/the horns

My guess would be that he's holding back on the "never-done-before" songs until the tour. The Grand Central gig was a special concert for sure, but I doubt he'd want to cram in all of the new additions/shakeups for the pop-up show.
I could see the Grand Central gig being the "farewell" to some songs that he's performed over the last tour or two - A Hard Day's Night (it'll surely be removed if there's a new opener), Hi Hi Hi (unless he puts that into rotation like Get Back/Helter Skelter), Letting Go, I've Got A Feeling (at least for this upcoming tour). As far as the new/returning material - I'd like to see Mother Nature's Son, Martha My Dear (although as we know he's said the piano part is too difficult live -- why not give it to Wix ), For No One, I Will, Rocky Raccoon, Let 'Em In, Backseat of My Car (he's clearly rehearsed it for that Mexico City bit), Hello Goodbye, My Brave Face, When I'm 64, Sgt Pepper (full version). I'm also hoping for the return of You Never Give Me Your Money, but with the entire band this time. Or how about the full version of She Came In Through the Bathroom Window? That'd be neat!
I'd also really like to see the live horn section during the tour - that will certainly FRESHEN UP the show! What would work best with horns? C'Mon People, Sgt Pepper (obviously), All You Need Is Love, or how about a freshened up version of the Long and Winding Road? I was sad to see that one go and hope it'll make a return.

He hinted today on his live Twitter question and answer that he may bring the live horns back and what better song than Letting Go for that? If he doesn’t drop A Hard Day’s Night (which he sounds lousy on) and Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! I will be VERY disappointed! Yes, do All You Need Is Love - John wrote that. Don’t try The Long and Winding Road - you can’t sing it anymore! My God, I’d rather hear him do You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)!!
Loved From Me To You and would love it if he did I Want To Hold Your Hand or She Loves You, if he thinks he needs another Beatles song. You guys who are big fans of his later work might as well resign yourself to the fact he’s not going to surprise us with some deep cut from the ‘80s or ‘90s. (or anything from 2000-2010 either!)
Thanks for your response, Nancy. Great to hear that he may be bringing back those horns!
Just curious - why don't you think Long and Winding Road isn't in his vocal range any longer? I personally hadn't noticed anything wrong with it, especially not when I was in the audience the last time he played it in Buffalo. Was there a specific instance or do you think it just doesn't sound right?
-Rubber Soul13
TLAWR (especially the beginning) is just out of his range in the original key. I cringed every time I heard him sing it live in recent years. I think that’s why he dropped it. Let It Be still sounds okay, so he kept that.

Hearing a set that includes these would be amazing!

Since the last show I attended in 2016 i would imagine there will be a few changes; shame he has dropped Here there and everywhere and fool on the hill i enjoyed hearing Paul do them. Its hard to predict what will be in the new show but something along these lines;
New opener From me to you/i wanna hold your hand/good day sunshine
Jet or Juniors farm
3 or 4 from Egypt Station ( dont think the songs from 'New 'will feature)
Cant buy me love
We can work it out
Not sure about the 2 tribute songs perhaps its time to change them around
Would love him to include Getting Better, Penny Lane, For no one, Two of us, Let em in, I'll follow the sun, take it away
Usually the latter half of show has remained the same but not long to find out!

*** This is my fantasy set list and he would do this concert at Carnegie Hall in NY (great acoustics). Since it is a fantasy, he still had a voice of a 30 year old - lol.

Exactly !! I have said it before and will say it again, so what if the audience goes quiet for a few solo songs. He gets plenty of applause for the hits so he should be able to handle polite applause for a few songs and actually show the crowd he still has written some excellent music since 1982 !!!

This. And he got plenty of opportunities to play the material he allegedly wants to play. But even during the promo gigs around a new album, or during intimate "fan only" shows, he just plays the same ol' same ol' with maybe a token cover.

There was a moment to change this, and it was in 2002/3. If he'd kept late 80s/90s songs in the set then, he'd have established a useful precedent that the shows were not going to be '63-'82 + the current album. Imagine if the Driving USA/Back in the US/Back in the World setlist had looked more like this... I bet more of his solo catalog would still be in the show:
The World Tonight
Jet
My Brave Face
Getting Better
Coming Up
Let Me Roll It
Lonely Road
Driving Rain
Run Devil Run
Souvenir
Your Loving Flame
Blackbird
Every Night
We Can Work It Out
You Never Give Me Your Money/Carry That Weight
The Fool On The Hill
Here Today
Something
Calico Skies
Put It There
Band On The Run
Back in The USSR
Maybe I’m Amazed
Cmon People
From a Lover to a Friend
About You
Can’t Buy Me Love
Live and Let Die
Let it Be
Beautiful Night
—
Long and Winding Road
Honey Hush
Flaming Pie
I Saw Her Standing There
—
Yesterday
Sgt Pepper/The End

I agree. If there was ever a time to "wing" it, the promo shows would be the perfect opportunity to do some solo songs never done or rarely done live. These are surprise gigs and he does not have to worry about upsetting a paying audience by not playing the hits.

Exactly, that was the moment he could have done anything he wanted IMO. He had brand new band, new album out and he had not toured in almost a decade so it is not like the audience had any specific expectations.

Isn't it strange that he didn't play more from the new album at these secret gigs? Like you said "fan only" shows...so there were no first timers to cater to. Lost opportunty.

I agree, he should have played 5-6 songs from Egypt Station if the whole ide of these shows were to promote the album.

I'll take it a bit further...I'll imagine that I'm the production manager of the Freshen Up tour and Paul has come to me for advice about "freshening up" the tour. He wants to create a 41 song setlist with the following requirements:
o New opener
o At least 8 songs that have never been performed live before
o At least half of the songs should be Beatles songs
o At least 10 Wings songs total
o At least 5 solo songs
o At least 4 songs from Egypt Station
o Include certain non-staples that he personally wishes to keep in the setlist
o Bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, grand piano, and keyboard must all be included
o "Rotation" songs for multiple nights at the same venue
o New effects
_____________________
Stage design: Similar stage setup as in previous tours with the exception of the rising platform. Extra laser equipment for Daytripper. Three fog machines on the stage floor (one in front of Wix's setup, one in front of Abe's setup, and one in front of Paul's grand piano). A mechanical lift is built into the stage so Paul's keyboard can be raised onto the stage when needed and hidden below the stage floor when not. Paul's keyboard has an Egypt Station motif. Abe's bass drum has the Egypt Station logo on it (the words "Egypt Station" with two pyramids and a single palm tree). The newly-added songs have new videos/images to accompany them on the main screen behind Paul. Some of the videos/images for the other songs were also updated.
Pre-show entertainment: Paul's DJ is back again for this tour playing select Beatles/Wings/solo tracks. 30 minutes before showtime, a video montage (with updated photos) plays on the two large screens on either side of the stage as well as on the large screen behind the band (for easier viewing). When the show is about to begin, the video gradually fades away.
Entrance: When the video is completely faded from the screen, the venue lights turn off, leaving only the standard blue lighting that occurs in between songs. The fog machines are activated, to which the audience cheers. Through the fog, the audience can barely make out the silhouettes of the band members (minus Paul) as they take their positions on the stage. In addition to Abe, Brian, Rusty, and Wix, a small group of backup musicians (trumpet, saxophone, trombone, flute, cello, two violins) are waiting backstage. When the fog has completely enveloped the back part of the stage, the ending piano part of Maybe I'm Amazed is played through a recording at a slightly slower tempo. After the final note, Abe kicks of the tempo with four cymbal hits and the band begins to play the ever-recognizable beginning to I Want to Hold Your Hand. Paul then steps through the fog, gives a quick wave, and begins.
Note:
-
The stories and audience interactions noted are only the pre-planned ones for the tour; other non-scripted stories and interactions will also occur.
-
"New Song #" means that it is the first time that Paul is playing the song with his current band.
-
I assumed that the start of the tour was at least three months away when making this setlist, so that there would be ample time to rehearse the songs that hadn't been performed live in years or ever before.
-
I tried to make the setlist as realistic as possible (i.e. retaining some of the "required" songs, reincorporating songs from previous tours, switching the setlist order around, respecting the fact that new songs require rehearsal time and therefore not creating an entirely new setlist from scratch).
Setlist:
1. I Want to Hold Your Hand Bass; New Song #1
2. Jet or Can't Buy Me Love Bass; Rotation song for multiple nights
3. Drive My Car or Got to Get You Into My Life Bass; Rotation song for multiple nights

OMG, Rubber Soul, why are you not Paul’s production manager?! Rocky Raccoon would go over well since he is married to a Nancy (and my “13 year old fangirl dream” would come true to hear him sing it live!)
Your other changes/additions are great too! (He REALLY needs to change those tribute songs!)

Love all of your ideas . The only thing that I'd change is the amount of solo songs from the last 20 or so years. We need more of those!
