For my money most of what Elton did up until 1990 was good. Since 1990, ah.....not so much. He went too Disney and Adult Contemporary for the most part.
I agree with you Ed.
I know I am replying to this late, but thanks. Again around 1990 he seemed to have lost a lot of what he had, at least to me. Is he still talented? Of course. Great live performer? Of course. I just feel like while artists like Paul kept up the songwriting and still did some good work, Elton kinda took the whole Disney/AC route. Nothing wrong with it if you enjoy it, but just doesn't do it for me as far as Elton's new songs.

Tumbleweed Connection: His best album.

His theme song "Circle of Life" for "The Lion King' is an epic ballad, very moving. i remember my niece, one year old then, bringing her a plate of cookies and a cola and pulling up a tiny chair to watch her "Lion King" dvd back then. a tiny toddler in a baby doll dress She loved that movie.

There are also rumours that he has a luxurious and expensive home.

That's a very sweet memory of your niece, Susy....I have a similar one with my niece who was also into the "The Lion King" Anyway, I couldn't let this thread pass w/o puttting my 2 cents in about Elton...I just adore him! What an entertainer ....he always puts on a fantastic show for his audience, and I am always totally smitten with his oustanding piano playing that he doesn't get enough credit for imo. One of my fondest romantic memories in my life stems around one of his songs....'YOUR SONG", when my first love took his guitar in hand one day and played and sang it to me....I really was quite overwhelmed with the simplistic beauty of it...the lyrics just so simple but moving. I thought at the moment my boyfriend had written it, but later when I found out it wasn't his, the impact was the same....that's how powerful the song is, and it certainly has stood the test of time, hasn't it?.

I saw Elton this spring. He still puts on a great show and he brought a 7 year old on stage to sing a song with him. The kid was a total ham and Elton seemed to really enjoy that. Security was about to send the kid back to the audience, but Elton signaled him to come sit at the grand piano with him and sing the choruses of Crocodile Rock. While on stage, the kid even had the wits to ask for an autograph, which he got. Highlight of the show.

Couldn't resist posting it....Enjoy! YOUR SONG - Elton John

Elton has an awkward wait following his concert in China last night: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/china-elton-john-dedicates-gig-dissident-062545845.html Elton chose to dedicate his whole concert last night to Ai Weiwei, dissident artist and free speech campaigner. Fair do's if he wished to challenge the authorities over their treatment of Ai Weiwei, that's free speech, a privilege we enjoy and defend. However Elton still has a second concert in Guangzhou, China on December 6th and his action may place that in doubt in which case he'll pay a high commercial price for his decision. When Bjork chanted "Tibet, Tibet, Tibet" during one of her songs in 2008 the Chinese authorities banned foreign performers for a year by way of punishment. It'll be interesting to see how the Chinese authorities respond, being just days into their new leadership, their response will be a lodestone to their intentions and direction. Martin

I like that Elton said that. If something's wrong, esp. famous people like singer-songwriter should say something about it and don't care about the government.

Hey guys, so I'm going to the Elton John concert on Saturday here in Quebec City.
Any tips on how to meet him ? I have a drawing that I'd like to show him and maybe get his autograph on. I was thinking of waiting outside the backstage entrance all afternoon..his car will inevitably drive by at one point.. This is how I got to meet Roger Waters last year.

Your drawings are wonderful, MissPenny; I notice you attended Paul's concert last night in Winnipeg, and wonder if you would tell us what all was played and what you thought of the show. And where you were sitting, etc. And if you were at Soundcheck. Thanks for info. Awesome new stadium, looks like it was filled to capacity for the concert (smiley face).
Are you going to his concert Sunday night, too? Tomorrow night !

Nope I wasn't at the concert in Winnipeg . I attended the Quebec City show . Don't have the money and/or time to travel and see him in concert all over the world unfortunately
But thank you!! -
I saw Elton at his Million Dollar Piano concert at Caesar's Palace Colosseum. Fantastic concert! I also love his early to mid-70's albums. He had a great run of LP's from Madman Across the Water all the way to Rock of the Westies.

Can’t remember if I mentioned this before, but when I was 15 in 1970, my boyfriend introduced me to Elton John’s Your Song. Nobody else even knew about him! I was an instant fan. My favorite album of his is Goodbye Yellowbrick Road.
Saw him in concert with Billy Joel a long time ago. (1994 - had to Google it!)
