EGYPT STATION

Earlier with the Zenith:
This is 1956 with a different guitar (has round hole which Zenith does not)

Okay, sorry I derailed this thread. Back to Egypt Station!
I listened to it twice recently in my car and really like most of it. My criteria is, if I don’t have to skip a song (like Nod Your Head on MAF) then it’s a really good album! Lol!

The Filey beach photo is August 1957, a few weeks after Paul purchased his Zenith and the top photo was probably that July, on the actual day of purchase. I can quite imagine Paul asking his brother to take a photo to mark the occasion.

I hear you Kestrel (he prefers "Chaos and Creation" to "Egypt Station"), but I think I prefer ES to Chaos, although Chaos is brilliant. Egypt Station is less somber and melancholy with more different music styles. So many people just love, love, love "Egypt Station" and I expect it to snag a Grammy nom for "Album of the Year." If it doesn't, I'll go burn the place down (just kiddin') wink, wink
It should win, too, methinks !

Sorry, I got confused because the guitar looks like it has a round hole. Should have researched, but didn’t know the name of the beach until you wrote it. Is this the same Zenith in the Early Days video?

I'm sure Paul has said that he still owns his first guitar so it could well be.

I love sombre and melancholy....hey, I have every Pink Floyd album.
From New, my favourite track was Scared, thats the kind of song that I want to hear from Paul.
It will be interesting to see if it does pick up any awards. Here in the UK we've already had the Q Awards and it wasn't even shortlisted although its possible it may have missed the deadline for inclusion.

Nod Your Head is one of my favorites on MAF! I'd sooner skip breathing.
But I fear I'm going to derail the thread again.

“To each his own!” You probably like What Goes On too!

Here’s a funny story: My friend in Nashville is out shopping and finds the 16-song ES with the red band for $10, buys it and excitedly texts me about buying it, along with a pic. I text her back, “That is the exact same one I have sitting here to give you that we each received after I bought the Greenville Macca tickets!” She had totally forgotten! Said she’d give it to her mom, who is also a big fan.

I agree that Nod Your Head is one of the worst songs Paul has ever recorded. Thankfully it's last on MAF so easy to skip. I listen to MAF frequently but haven't head Nod Your Head since 2007. It seemed particularly painful on the ears after the brilliance of Chaos.

Okay, I gotta address this, understanding that tastes vary and hey, that's life. But to me, Nod Your Head is the perfect album closer to follow The End of the End. And let me say -- as I mentioned on here some time back -- The End of the End hits me very personally, as it came out just as my father was dying. So listening to it is emotionally wrenching for me. Nod Your Head -- raucous, joyous and a little crazy -- is the perfect palate cleanser. I don't just like it, I love it.

That’s the one Beatles song I skip (in addition to Revolution 9 which I don’t even consider to be a song!)

Oh, they'll find some way to give it to Drake, or Rhianna or the never-goes-away, Taylor Swift. Or to some new artist making a splash that we may not even know about!

Whaaa? I love when Ringo addresses George and asks for him to rock-one for me, or whatever it is he says. Speaking of Ringo....his "Don't Pass Me By" just doesn't work for me. I tried to like it enough to keep it, but just can't...It needed to be sped up...it just drags...and the lyric...."...I was so unfair, you were in a car crash and you lost your hair." OMG! ...lost your hair??? Coulnd't he have at least changed it to something like......"...you were in a car crash and still were over there...."....anthing to ryhyme with "so unfair' but "lost your hair." I had to remove it from the new White Album, along with Paul's two Honey Pies, the do it in the road bit, and Revolution 9.....five songs. But I inserted the Anthology Version of George's excellent "Not Guilty" directly after "Yer Blues." It fits and sounds just about as good as the new mixes.

You’re thinking of Honey Don’t where Ringo says, “Rock on George, one time for Ringo.” What Goes On is just an annoying song to me.

Although Ringo had started writing Don't Pass Me By even before he joined the Beatles, I've often wondered if that line about the car crash and 'losing your hair' was a reference to actress Jayne Mansfield, who was killed in a car accident (1967),the year before the songs recording in 1968. Initially reports said that she had been decapitated but it later turned out that it was her blonde wig that had been mis-identified in the on scene police photographs.

That sounds totally logical.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if that was where the line came from.

P.S. I actually met her when I was about 7 or 8. She was appearing somewhere near Cleveland, OH. I wasn’t named after her (it was the wife of my dad’s best friend) but my middle name is Jayne.
