Happy Belated Birthday Paul. Have been a huge fan since 1964 and been on your Website (Maccaboard) for years.
Thanks for the great music throughout all the years and I'm one that thinks your Post Beatles' career has been very underrated. Recently I've been writing a thread on Maccaboard about your Solo and Post Beatles career since 1970. The thread is called "Paul's Solo and Post Beatles' Anthology. I've emphasized that in my opinion you need an "updated and complete" Career Spanning (Solo and Post Beatles) Compilation. Your last Compilation (Pure McCartney in 2016) doesn't include great albums like Egypt Station, McCartney 3 and Flowers in the Dirt. It also included very little from Driving Rain, Off the Ground and other great albums. It also didn't include for the most part, great B-Sides and extra songs not on the original albums. In my opinion, a New Compilation, in my opinion, needs to be done by each Decade. On my thread, I've included suggested tracklists for each Decade. I think to really be "complete" you would need 2 Cd's for each Decade. I know many from the younger generations don't buy CD's anymore but the older, old school demographic still buy CD's. Just my opinion, but we don't need all the fancy packaging, books and DVD's. Just the CDs with an informative booklet.
As far as rarities, you would need to include for each Decade any of the good Unreleased tracks. Examples off the top of my head would include "A Love For You, Waterspout, Wings on a Nighingale, Yvonne's the One, India, Whole LIfe" etc. Good to great B-Sides would include "The Mess, Oh Woman Oh Why, Give Ireland Back to the Irish (A-side that was banned), Country Dreamer, Sally G, Girls' School, Daytime Nightime Suffering, Rainclouds, Ode to a Koala Bear, Back on My Feet, Flying to My Home, Loveliest Thing, Mama's Little Girl, Long Leather Coat, Kicked Around No More, I Can't Imagine, Big Boys Bickering, Broomstick, Love Come Tumbling Down, Same Love, Summer of 59, This Loving Game" etc. Great songs not included on the original albums (but later editions) like "Turned Out, Get Started, Why So Blue, Demons Dance" etc.
The other ingredient to a great Compilation would be different versions of "hits" rather than using the same studio versions. Examples would be Wanderlust where you could use the "Broad Street" version that gives a little snippet of Here There and Everywhere at the end. Also "live versions" from your Off the Ground tours (or the Ed Sullivan Theater Promotion Show that you did for Off the Ground) were great as well as the live versions for Run Devil Run that were spectacular in my opinion. I have loads of ideas and these are just some of them.
Finally, true fans will buy this Compilation if it is done well and completely. Don't just have a bunch of duplications from your past compilations. Pure Mccartney had too many gaps and missing songs/albums from your great career. Including great tracks (live and studio) from Flowers in the Dirt, Egypt Station, McCartney 3 gives you a great start and would be a wonderful new project to celebrate your 80th Birthday or the Christmas Season in 2022.
Thanks again for all the great music. Unfortunately too many great songs are relatively "unknown"to average fans. A new and updated Compilation would be a great solution.
