Flower Power Cruise 2022
-
It looks promising that this cruise, which was postponed in 2020 and 2021, is finally going to happen. I was able to do my online check-in and uploaded a photo of my Covid vaccine card. Have to get a rapid test on Mar. 26th, then they will test us again at the port. Signed up for 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. "wellness check."
They changed the ports from 3 (San Juan, Labadee Haiti & Puerto Plato Dominican Republic) to two (St. Maarten and Tortola, BVI) I've been to the former several times, but not the latter.
The bands are the same. So far, the Jukebox are the only Beatles tribute band. Saw them at AROTR last Sept. I'm hoping they get one more like BritBeat or The Fab Four.

Finally got underway today. Bands I saw today: The Cowsills (original members Bill, Paul and Susan) The Jukebox (Beatles tribute band from Puerto Rico who I've known since 2011) The Association (one original member + the son of the original bass player) and Gary Puckett & The Union Gap (he's the only original member) Had front row seats for last 2 bands in the big theater. I lucked out: by coming alone it's easy to find 1 great seat! And Gary Pucket is almost exactly 4 months younger than Paul and he sounds fantastic! He can still hit most of the high notes and he can hold a note too! He looks great as well - longish silver hair and still in fabulous shape! My photos are on my cellphone so I need to figure out how to disconnect wi-fi from my iPad and then connect it on the phone so I can send the photos to myself. (can only be on 1 device at a time with the plan I got)

I think the Dominican Republic is on the list for places the US government has said not to visit (COVID & crime). Too bad about San Juan IMO, was there once and really enjoyed it. I like St. Maarten, been there a couple of times.

Thanks, I am! Today was another concert by Jukebox Beatles, this time outside by the pool. Also the Newbees did a concert by the pool of all the Beatles songs that have "sun" in them. Sang "Oh! Darling" Karaoke. Saw the Zombies in the big theatre - same front row seat again!! Then at 11pm by the pool was the Grass Roots. They were all great!

I played Family Feud against the Cowsills + Paul's son and another band member. They played 4 teams of 5 people and we beat them! Sat next to Paul and told him I had met him in 2019 at Abbey Road On The River and he said "You do look familiar - what's your name?" and after I told him he said "Oh yeah, I remember you!" After it was finished I got hugs from Bob, Susan and Paul Cowsill. I went up to Brandon and said, which one is your dad? (he said "Paul") and I said "He's a riot!" and Brandon said (laughing) "I know!"
Also ran into the guys in the Cream tribute - get this: the drummer is Ginger Baker's son, Kofi (he was named after a drummer friend of Ginger's from Ghana) and the lead singer is Eric Clapton's nephew, Will Johns! It's a bit convoluted, so I'll quote Wikipedia:
Johns is the son of record producer Andy Johnsand nephew of Glyn Johns.
Johns was born in London to actress Paula Boyd and record producer Andy Johns. He first started playing guitar at age fifteen and was encouraged by Eric Clapton.
Johns' uncles included Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood and the late George Harrison. His mother Paula Boyd is the sister of Pattie Boyd, ex-wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton and Jenny Boyd, ex-wife of Mick Fleetwood, founder of Fleetwood Mac.

Sounds like a really good cruise. I just wanted to say thanks for all your positive feedback on the cruises. I'm signing up for one next Spring because they sound so fun.

Do you mean you want to go on the Flower Power cruise in 2023? If so, go to flowerpowercruise.com right now and try to sign up to go. It sells out SUPER FAST! They already sold 300 cabins while we were on the cruise. (I'm not going next year) That means that by now, almost half the ship is sold out. I originally signed up in 2019 on the day after the 2019 cruise arrived back in Miami for the 2020 cruise. 2020 & 2021 cancelled and I just let it ride. So they had my reservation and money for almost 3 years!

I did, but I'm half dead still from exhaustion because of that excursion I took that was WAY too strenuous! Plus I have a sore throat from all the talking, yelling, screaming, and I have a cough too. I took a Covid home test yesterday which was negative. Will retest on Saturday.

Gary Pucket (And The Union Gap) He still sounded great! (front row seat!)

The best band there, in my opinion, was The Guess Who. Original member is the older heavyset guy who is the drummer. The blond guy is Derek Sharp, the phenomenal lead singer, who has been with them 14 years.
Guess how old Derek is!

Two of the Hollies (original member Tony Hicks and long-time member Peter Howarth)
