2022 Grammy Awards

It appears Paul will not be performing, he was not listed on any article I have read or on the TV commercial promoting the show. I hope he is at least attending the awards and if he does not perform maybe present an award. The "Foo Fighters" were supposed to perform but that may be up in the air due to the death of Taylor Hawkins. Wuld be nice to see Paul win something but I kind of doubt it.

Hey Yankeefan...Personally I don't care if Paul performs (in fact I would rather he not) but I'm sure hoping he is in attendance. I say that if by chance he wins with either the Best Rock Album Nomination or Best Rock Song. Too many years he has been shut out as a Beatle and especially as a Solo Artist. Maybe this year he will get his just due and I want to see him there if he WINS. Let Us Hope!

When he lost to Kelly Clarkson, the proverbial writing was on the wall. Yes, she's a good singer and an American Idol winner....but Paul is waaaaaay beyond that. "Chaos....." should have won the album award in the category hands down. Paul won't win this time either. The Foo Fighters are shoo ins. On the plus side, it was great that during last night's telecast of the Oscars on ABC, in the rather lengthy portion about all the James Bond movies and the various stars in the title role since 1962, they played "Live and Let Die" throughout the entire segment. It sounded great booming out in the auditorium's excellent sound system!! I just marveled at how great Paul's vocal was. The voice he had then was so strong, so melodic, so effortless, so beautiful, and so beyond perfect. (A side note on the Oscar telecast, I was taken aback when Will Smith, offended by a tasteless joke by Chris Rock, flew to the stage and slapped Rock's face so hard I thought he would fall over. Rock had insutlted Will's wife. When re-seated Smith shouted at Rock..."Keep my wife's name out your f***ing mouth." It was bleeped, of course, but it was easy to read his lips. I'm surprised Chris Rock hasn't had his face slapped any number of times over the years when on stage uttering his tasteless comments which he thinks are funny about various people in the audience. He got what he deserved in my opinion. Not your usual Oscar show!

I appreciate your comments about Paul's chances next week. I'm not sure you're right about Paul not winning for McCartney 3. If the Grammy's take into account that Paul wrote and played 99% of this album by himself, that alone could get him the WIN. I think he has a very good chance and it's not a slam dunk for the Foo Fighters winning.
As far as the Chris Rock/Will Smith fiasco at the Oscars last night, I really don't care. I like Chris Rock and he is hired by the Academy for ratings. This has happened for years (just think of Don Rickles) and as movie stars you have to anticipate that you will be fair game from a commedian like Chris Rock. I remember a few years ago when the Briish Comedian Ricky Gervais was hosting an "Awards" Show and Ricky took a few direct shots at Paul McCartney who was in one of the front rows at this show. Paul didn't lose his cool and he took it like a Man and didn't raise a stink. Unfortunately Will Smith lost his cool but I don't think you can blame Chris Rock. That is who Chris Rock is and I think he can be very funny. Just my opinion.
-
Just one more addition to the Chris Rock/Will Smith fight at the Oscar's last night. I give Will Smith a lot of credit. When he won an Award last night after he lost his cool with Chris Rock which happened earlier in the night, I think Will Smith deserves a lot of credit for apologizing to the Academy and to the other Oscar nominees for his outburst.
-
I didn't think the joke was that offensive for Will to take it to that extreme on national TV. Not that I like Chris Rock but that's what he does.
Beatlesforever-The Bond segmet was great with Paul's Live & Let Die although I wish they had mentioned who the song was by.

I too loved the James Bond segment on the Oscar's last night. I agree with Beatlesforever that Paul sounded great singing Live & Let Die and I loved that they played the whole song while they were honoring the various actors who have portrayed Bond over the years. Fortunately "Live and Let Die" was not one of the good/great hidden gems during Paul's entire Solo Career. Most people know that "Live and Let Die" was written by Paul so the fact that they didn't mention Paul's name didn't bother me.
And I agree with oobu24 that the joke wasn't that offensive and that is what a comedian like Chris Rock does. As I said, I think the movie stars in attendance have to realize that particular comedians might take a shot or two at them during the show and they have to anticipate that it may happen. That being said, I think Will Smith deserves a lot of credit for apologizing for his outburse when it came time for him to give his acceptance speech towards the end of the show.
-
OT - I don't care how tasteless the joke may be, you don't go up and physically attack someone. A mature adult would have kept their cool and issued statement after the ceremony that the joke about his wife was not appreciated. Chris Rock was there to do what comedians do at these shows, poke fun at the celebrities attending. For those of you old enough to remember the comedian Don Rickles, Chris Rock was fairly tame with his remarks/jokes. What was amazing to me was that all these actors rushed over to Will Smith to supposedly console him and I did not see anybody ask Chris Rock if he was ok. BTW - the person who is attacked does not have to press charges for the police to go further with charges. Finally, all Will Smith did last night was tarnish his greatest achievement in his career. People will talk more about the slap then he won the award. I feel bad for the William sisters, this movie about their Father will now also be overlooked due to this incident.

Disagree with you BJ, this was just a CYA moment for him and done to salvage his career. If the Academy had any guts, they would strip Will Smith of his Oscar.

If there was ever a solo McCartney album that should have won it was CHAOS IMO. The problem probably was that it was not a very commercial album and mostly somber in mood. I think "McCartney III" is worthy but agree his chances are slim. Any sentimental value of rewarding Paul due to his age may be gone due to the tragedy with the Foo Fighters drummer tragic death. Not sure if the votes are already in so that may be a moot point.

I think it says something about his current vocal abilities he is not performing. What better way to get "boomers" to watch this show than have icon like Paul performing. I agree with you that it is probably a good thing he is not especially with it being televised around the world. He was great years ago at the awards when he did "Fine Line" and a killer "Helter Skelter" but that was many years ago. I sure hope he is in the audience just in case he does actually win.

Hey Yankeefan...I agree with you totally about Chaos. It should have won.
As far as the Foo Fighters winning due to their drummer's very recent tragic death, I would think the votes were casted quite a while ago. The Grammy's if I'm not mistaken were supposed to be aired back in January so that is why I think the votes have already been cast at least a couple of months ago. I may be too much of an "optimist" here but I think Paul has a realistic shot. I think that most people/voters know that Paul did almost the whole album by himself. Just hoping that Paul wins for either the Album or the song "Find My Way" and I hope even more that he is there to accept it. He really deserves it considering how many years he been in the game and still writing good/great songs. If there is ever a time for "justice" to play out, this is it.

Is Paul still on holiday in St Barts? If so,I don't blame him for staying on the beach rather than get involved with another pointless awards show.

I thought the votes were already in, I was just not sure. I think Paul has better shot with winning "Best Rock Song" than "Best Rock Album". I think the Foo Fighters are a lock for "Best Rock Album". The main competition for Paul on "Best Rock" song IMO is "The Bandit" by Kings of Leon although "Distance" by Wofgang Van Halen may get a few sentimental votes since he is the son of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen.

I agree.

Comedians all over will be afraid to pick on anyone in the audience for fear of being beaten up.

Oobu24 - You are absolutely correct. Will Smith initially laughed at the joke and then saw his wife was not too happy about it.

Funny how Ricky Gervais "slayed" all the Hollywood types at last Golden Globe awards he hosted and not one person got up and hit him -lol.
