Tribute Band Playing Tonight in Atlantic City
-
I'm just here at my Atlantic City condo for about 10 Days. To my great surprise, a Paul McCartney Tribute Band is appearing tonight at the Golden Nugget Casino. Judging by the Ad the Casino released, the Band has 6 Members. The Show is called "Pure McCartney". Obviously, I'm pretty excited over something that just came out of the blue.
I'll give a full report tomorrow morning.

@b-j-conlee Yeah, I’ve heard of them!
-
Have fun BJ!! If they are as good as these guys it will be awesome.
-
@yankeefan2 I wonder if Linda’s ex-husband ever figured out that Paul wrote Dear Boy to him?
That group really is awesome! -
I've got a dvd of them. They are fantastic.

I agree. It also shows once again how fantastic Paul's music is live. Their version of "Back Seat Of My Car" is just freaking awesome. You hear people like them doing Paul's music live and it makes you sad that Paul never did it himself. Unfortunately, he was too concerned about his Beatle legacy to go back and do more different songs off his solo albums. Thanks to this group of musicians/vocalists for doing these songs and probably introducing a bunch of people to some great solo Paul music.

Looked at the lyrics more closely and my goodness it is quite obvious who it is about IMO. Then again, we have no idea if he really followed Paul's music. Her ex-husband not only let Paul adopt his daughter, but he also sadly committed suicide. Anyway, great song and glad somebody thought it was good enough to do live and they are awesome!! Sorry, I could not resist that small "dig" at Paul's choice of songs live -lol

I'm moving very slowly this morning. Too old for these late night shows and dancing.
First of all, there must be more than one Macca Tribute Band that calls their show "Pure McCartney". The Band I saw last night was not the Band (Tom Christensen, Mike Viola, Tracy Bonham) I've seen on YouTube doing the entire Ram album.Nevertheless, this 6 piece Band from New Jersey was very good. 3 of them handled lead singing chores, the drummer was fantastic and they had live horns for some of the songs. Their overall playing and singing was excellent.
The Setlist was mostly "hits." Not enough deep cuts for this hardcore fan but they put on one heck of a show for this audience. No Banter between songs; just hit after hit. The closest thing to a deep cut was probably "Venus & Mars/Rock Show". The show was overwhelmingly Solo and Wings with Beatle songs mixed in.
The one lead singer had a classic Paul voice on ballads like Let It Be, Hey Jude, My Love and Golden Slumbers. Another singer did a great job on up-tempo songs like Juniors Farm, Band on the Run Silly Love Songs and Get Back.
The "live" horns sounded great on songs like Got to Get You into My Life, Let 'm In and Lady Madonna.
One of the songs that really brought the house down believe it or not was Silly Love Songs. Many in the crowd were dancing in the aisles to almost all the songs.A few songs that I thought were really well done (and not my personal favorites) were Listen to What the Man Said, Let 'M In and Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, Opening the show was Live and Let Die.
All the songs were well received like Band on the Run and Jet and of course early Beatle favorites like I Saw Her Standing There and Can't Buy Me Love.
All in all, it was a great show and left many smiles on their faces as they left the concert. -
Like you, I wish they would have done some "deep" cuts but give them style points for doing "Silly Love Songs". I have always loved that song, great bass line and harmonies. What is cool is that a Wings song brought the house down and not Beatle song. Glad the band was very good and put on a great show. Yep, live horns add so much to some McCartney songs especially the ones they played. I will add that I like that this band and the one that did Ram are all about the McCartney music. They are not like the Beatle bands that try to look like them and wear costumes of the time period of the songs. Nothing wrong with it, just not my personal taste.
So, I am glad you had a fun evening and pretty cheap which is nice for us older folks - lol. As I said in another post, these groups show how good McCartney music is live. It also highlights what a shame it is that McCartney ignored so much great music in his concerts. Thanks for the review.

@yankeefan2
Thanks Yankeefan. I forgot to mention that the lead guitarist did very good solos on Maybe I'm Amazed and My Love. All in all, a terrific and fun show especially for $10 dollars.Yes, I'm stilll waiting for that "Tribute Band " that sprinkles in a healthy dose of deep cuts like "Put It There, Little Willow, Single Pidgeon, Too Much Rain etc. It would probably work best as a small, more acoustic like show with 1 or 2 guitarists. If I only had good ability on the guitar and could sing.

I love Tribute bands. Never seen a bad one. Sad to say soon they will be the only ones left, as the original artists will pass. More power to Tribute bands I say!!!

I was in a band as a teenager and up to mid 20's. It was always a side job and we never thought of trying to become famous -lol. We played bars on weekends/nights to make some extra money, free drinks and meet some girls - ha ha. I did backup vocals for the most part and played lead guitar. The only time I sang lead vocal is if one of the other guys needed a break or had sore throat. I only have a couple of acoustic guitars now and rarely play. Years ago when my daughters were in HS band we would do a family Christmas show together for my wife and friends at our home Christmas party. Oldest daughter played the flute and could also play keyboard. Youngest daughter played clarinet and could play trombone also if needed.
Would love a tribute band do the songs you mentioned, would love to know if that "Pure McCartney" band who did RAM still is together and does Mccartney songs. I could see them pulling it off if interested.

If you guys ever get the chance to go to Abbey Road On The River (or again for BJ) you would absolutely LOVE Classicstone! I’m sure they played the year you went BJ. Yankeefan, you’d like it because they aren’t a “boots & suits” lookalike band, they just are fabulous musicians from Colombia, South America. During Covid they did a free Zoom concert on a rooftop and did all of Let It Be IIRC.
Can’t find it right now, but here is WMGGW:Google Classicstone tribute band on YouTube. They also do other complete albums like Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon.
I’m friends on FB with all of them.
This isn’t the rooftop concert I was talking about, but a recreation at AROTR.

Thanks, I will check it out. It is all about the music for me, don't care about the "boots and suits" -lol.
