More unheard Beatles BBC recordings set for release!
-
Can't wait 'till the new BBC collection is released. But they are also remastering the first BBC-album, I read. I hope they can improve on some of the presented recordings, with better copies.
-
^me, too, because the bootlegs have many of them in superior quality!
-
pardon me for asking if this is a dumb question...where do you all get these bootlegs? I once posted this question somewhere online and the only reply I got was "bootlegs are illegal. buying bootlegs is a felony." not much help. some dedicated fans of my other favorite band set up a great, comprehensive bootlegs site full of downloadable material (the band is fine with the site and seldomly requests materials to be taken down). I get the impression from Beatles blogs that most Beatle people get their bootlegs in forms of vinyl or CDs?

Not these days...I used to buy loads of Beatles bootlegs on CD years ago...now everything is all online.

Google is your best friend. There was a heyday this past decade on finding a lot but the crackdown on filesharing host sites are down. But that hasn't stop many people; there are other forums that host such things. Buying bootlegs is a far from a felony; it may not be the best thing to do but if you really want a hard to find cd then you'll pay for it. The internet day and age has giving opportunity to find stuff for free especially on bootlegs. There are communities that just share for the sake of the love of the band. Listen...in this day and age of people barely buying the official cds - I'm sure most of us buy most of Paul's /The Beatles official releases that we crave even more - so bootlegs are the next best thing because in reality most of it will never get an official release. I'm still going for this release because honestly the bootleg BBC stuff has a lot of tracks that are just unbearable to listen to ALTHOUGH it is a complete set. And you'll get a booklet of each song in detail - then again a BBC book is coming out soon with probably even great detail.

In the case of the Beatles/solo, The Who, Zeppelin, Hendrix, etc, I've bought ALL of the official releases, sometimes multiple times due to the remasters/reissues, never mind concert tickets, merchandise, etc. I certainly support the artists above and beyond what I have to. So I have no qualms about having a massive bootleg collection...they've already gotten MORE than their fair share of my money

Agreed! It would only take about 30 0f us getting VIP packages for Paul to make one month's child support!

Just be careful about revealing too much. Not a good idea to discuss here. Because you can't post any information about where to find bootlegs on this website. Read the forum rules. Not only that but Paul's lawyers can use that info to shutdown good sources for the bootleg enthusiast.

kinda lame that there are tracks from other official releases. but whatever... I'll buy it. I used to have the 10 CD set of the complete BBC sessions. From some dog label, I forget the exact name. But I don't know what you're talking about when you say the bootlegs are better quality. These ones sure weren't. Part of why I say I "used to" have them. That and, I'd never listen to them with any regularity over the actual albums, when there are 6-7 versions of some songs across the 10 discs.

My lips are sealed. In any event, I will definitely be getting this new set anyway. I'm a completist and it's The Beatles, so what else can I do?

WOW, really looking forward to this one!

So, according to Wikipedia: "In total, 275 performances of 88 different songs were broadcast, of which 36 songs never appeared on their studio albums" "Of particular interest were the 36 songs that The Beatles never performed on their official releases, of which 30 were selected for the album." The six omitted were: - Besame Mucho - Lend Me Your Comb (these two ended up on Anthology) - A Picture Of You - Dream baby (these two have not been commercially released) - I'm Talking About You - Beautiful Dreamer (these two made it onto the upcoming volume 2) After removing banter tracks and "From Us To You", I count 93 original performances on the four BBC discs. There are 11 songs performed twice each on these volumes. - Glad All Over - Honey Don't - I Feel Fine - I Got a Woman - I Saw her Standing There - Long Tall Sally - Lucille - Memphis, tennessee - Roll Over Beethoven - Sure To Fall - Till There was You Which means there are 82 original songs on these two volumes. We know that the first four of the six I listed above have not been included. That makes 86. What other two songs (they would be Beatles originals) were performed at the BBC but did not make it onto these releases?

Not trying to spam, but in keeping with this discussion, there's a BBC book on the Beatles due out the end of this month that I've reviewed on my site, if anyone is interested: http://rnrchemist.blogspot.com/2013/10/book-review-beatles-bbc-archives.html I highly recommend the book!

WHO ORDERED THEIR LIVE AT THE BBC VOL. 1 and 2 (both remastered)??? I DID !!! I DID !!! I DID !!! I DID !!! I DID !!! I DID !!! Somebody help me, please help me, help me, help meeeeeeee, Ooooooooo. (Beatle bow) I think I heard a new song (supposedly) on Vol. 2. Anyone knows? Video with a snip it of that song is on iTunes, in the Beatles section. John Lennon is on lead vocal. Don't know if it was a Beatle song never released (hope to Jesus, MJ doesn't own it) or a remake.

"I'm Talking About You" and "Beautiful Dreamer" by Chuck Berry, who recently turned 87 years old.
